Chapter 396: Yua’s Back (2)

  • Next Chapter

Yua pulled back by a mere fraction of an inch, her forehead resting against his as her crimson eyes stared directly into his human pupils.

Her breathing was ragged, her fangs lightly catching the edge of her lower lip as her vampiric instincts reacted to the pure masculine aura radiating from his proximity.

"Don’t ever leave me again!" she breathed out, her hands gripping his shoulders so hard her nails lightly pierced his skin.

"I don’t care if the entire underworld comes for us. If we split again... I’ll tear my own core out."

"We’re never splitting again, Yua." Kyle said, his voice raw, serious, and completely filled with an absolute vow as he pulled her back into another deep, lingering kiss.

"I didn’t come all the way here and burn through an executioner just to lose you twice. From here on out... we fight back-to-back until this whole planet turns to ash." Kyle smiled back, a warm yet reassuring warmth filled Yua. Making her eyes subconsciously swell.

They the layed back against the massive white crystal structure, their limbs interwoven in the deep, soothing silver-blue twilight of the aquifer.

The fortress was still out there, Vladimir’s army was still moving in the deep rifts, and the shadow lord was a looming catastrophe on the horizon. But tucked away in the silent, ancient heart of Kraken, the long separation was officially over, and the true power of the his dark pact was finally reuniting its foundation.

.......

The soothing, silver-blue radiance of the ancient aquifer crystals rippled lazily across the smooth stone ceiling. In the center of the cavern, the natural mineral pool remained completely still, its surface reflecting the peaceful, uncorrupted twilight of their hidden sanctuary.

Kyle sat with his back pressed against the massive white crystal pillar, his long legs extended. Yua was curled tightly against his side, her head resting securely over his chest, listening to the steady, heavy rhythm of his heartbeat. His human appearance was fully restored, but his body still felt slightly sluggish as his hit points gradually climbed back up through the passive recovery baseline.

After a long, comfortable silence filled with the quiet, lingering warmth of their reunion, Kyle looked down at her. His fingers gently traced a strand of her dark hair, his crimson-tinted eyes softening.

"Yua~" Kyle began, his voice dropping into a quiet, serious register that echoed softly in the cavern. "What exactly happened to you? That day back on planet Vaanderwood... when Lucifer manifested and the portal fractured. How did you end up on Kraken?"

Yua went entirely rigid for a fraction of a second. She stared blankly at the pulsing silver light of the mineral pool, her deep vampiric eyes clouded by a sudden, heavy shadow of memory.

"I’m not entirely sure, Kyle." she whispered, her voice dropping into a low, trembling breath. "Everything suddenly went dark that day. One second I was screaming your name as the spatial rift tore open, and the next... it felt like my soul was being dragged through a freezing, absolute void. When I finally cracked my eyes open, I was lying in the middle of a barren, ash-covered rift on this wretched planet. But... I wasn’t a human anymore. I woke up with this burning, unholy thirst in my throat, my teeth elongated, and the ambient dark energy of the planet actively trying to dissolve my core."

She paused, the sheer, historical weight of her physical transformation still settling heavily within her chest.

For a baseline human woman who had lived an ordinary existence on Earth, waking up as a high-tier undead entity on an apocalyptic anomaly world was a trauma that numbers couldn’t quantify.

Her fingers instinctively tightened on the tattered leather of Kyle’s sleeve, her breathing turning shallow.

Kyle didn’t speak. He simply wrapped his large arm tighter around her shoulders, pulling her body flush against his chest, his large hand gently stroking her hair in a slow, protective motion to comfort her. He let her feel the absolute security of his presence, grounding her racing thoughts until her breathing finally settled back into a smooth rhythm.

"I was completely lost during those first few days." Yua continued quietly, leaning deeper into his warmth. "I didn’t know how to control the blood-essence, or how to channel my vampire physique without my core fracturing. But... I was lucky. I ran into Elara out in the shifting valleys. She’s the one who taught me how to use my new vampire powers during our short time together. She showed me how to stabilize my mana lines and adapt to Kraken’s ecosystem."

From the opposite side of the cavern, a sharp, smug scoff cut through the quiet.

Elara pushed herself up from her sleeping posture against the basalt wall, brushing the silver dust from her cloak. Her eyes were glowing with a fully restored purple intensity, her mana core successfully replenished past seventy percent thanks to the passive ambient radiation of the aquifer crystals.

"And don’t you forget it, little bat!" Elara said, a confident, teasing smirk crossing her tattered features as she stretched her limbs. "You still owe me several massive favors for keeping your fangs from falling out during that first week. Not to mention I had to literally parse several potion formulas just to keep you from accidentally drinking corrupted blood-essence."

Kyle let out a low, irritated grunt at the witch’s intervention, glaring across the cave. "She wouldn’t have been in that position if your facility’s grunt puppets hadn’t ambushed her perimeter in the first place, witch."

"Oh, please, Demon Lord.." Elara rolled her eyes sarcastically, entirely unbothered by his glare.

"I am a dark arts practitioner, not Vladimir’s corporate secretary. If I wanted her dead, I would have let the atmosphere liquefy her core a month ago. Instead, I gave her my best distillation vials. Speaking of which, since my mana pool is finally back to a functional baseline, let’s address the distinct lack of baseline nutrients in this room."

Elara stepped toward a smooth, flat stone table near the edge of the mineral pool. She tucked her cloak back, her hands quickly weaving into a highly complex, fluid dark arts mudra.

She didn’t channel light rays this time. Instead, she tapped into her restored witchcraft modifiers to interact with the ambient mineral salts and pure water of the cavern.

"Witchcraft: Alchemical Conjoint!" Elara chanted in a low whisper.

A sudden, soft purple flash erupted from her open palms, encapsulating three empty crystal containers she had fetched from her pouch.

Before Kyle’s eyes, the ambient mana particles in the air violently condensed inside the vials, manifesting a thick, rich, and completely uncorrupted amber-colored fluid that smelled faintly of sweet honey and concentrated herbs.

Right next to the drinks, a cluster of large, baked root tubers—purged entirely of dark energy saturation by her localized light inversion matrix—materialized on the stone, steaming with a clean, starchy warmth.

"Eat." Elara said, tossing a warm tuber toward Kyle, which he caught effortlessly with his right hand. "It’s entirely synthetic, but it’s packed with uncorrupted caloric density and pure mana. It’ll finish patching up your strength, demon."

Kyle didn’t argue. The violent physical strain of his transformation recoil had left his stomach starving. He split the warm tuber, giving the larger half to Yua before taking a heavy bite.

The food was clean, tasting remarkably like sweet potato infused with mineral salts, immediately triggering a soothing wave of stamina recovery through his muscles. He picked up one of the crystal containers, taking a long drink of the amber fluid. The mana-rich distillate slid down his throat like liquid ice, instantly refreshing his dry circuits.

Yua ate her portion quietly, her fangs neatly retracting as she enjoyed the clean nutrients. After taking a small sip of the amber drink, she turned her head back to look into Kyle’s eyes, her expression turning incredibly serious, dropping another massive piece of information into the space between them.

"There’s something else, Kyle." Yua said, her voice dropping into a tense whisper that instantly caught his complete attention. "During this entire month on Kraken... I haven’t just been running blindly based on survival instinct. I can still hear Lilith’s voice inside my head."

Kyle’s eyes violently widened, his hand freezing mid-air with the crystal container as a sudden shockwave of utter bewilderment rushed through his mind.

’Lilith’s voice?’ He hadn’t expected to hear that name, linked to an active telepathic transmission on a completely isolated planet.

"What do you mean?" Kyle asked, his voice dropping into a sharp, demanding timber. "Lilith was taken by that bastard. How can you hear her?"

"It’s not a continuous, active conversation." Yua clarified, her fingers tracing the runic marking on the back of his left hand.

"It’s more like a localized, fluctuating frequency anchored deep within my new vampiric core. Whenever I reach a crossroads in the trenches, or whenever Vladimir’s security grids close in on my position, her voice activates inside my mind. She gives me precise, tactical instructions on how to navigate the layout. She’s the one who explicitly told me to hunt down the primary automated catalyst vats, and she’s the one who instructed me to find the ’Heart of Kraken’ and bring it to the alignment node."

Kyle sat back against the white crystal, his mind spinning at overclocked speeds as Snow’s previous deductions flashed through his thoughts.

Lilith hadn’t just rewritten Yua’s soul code to grant her a survival gift; she had embedded a high-tier, dormant link guidance. Just like his system bond with her, directly into her consciousness.

Which meant she was actively steering his harem from across the stars, manipulating the planetary physics of Kraken to ensure they could undermine Lucifer’s and Vladimir’s apocalyptic chessboard before Kyle even arrived.

"She’s always been one step ahead, as always." Kyle muttered, a proud, dangerous grin slowly replacing his shock as his crimson eyes locked back onto the eastern exit of the cave. "If Lilith told you to crack the alignment node... then we are exactly where we are supposed to be."

Yua nodded, her fingers locking tightly with his as they finished their meal in the soothing silver light of the aquifer.

The fortress defenses were actively searching for them, the executioner was ash, and the true nature of their cosmic war was expanding by the minute.
