Chapter 499: Chapter 499 The Cruelest Revelation

Diana had no objections to the company’s arrangements. After all, she’d already submitted her resignation, and the handover of her responsibilities was underway.

She hadn’t paid much attention to what was happening with Sophie.

That day, she’d gone straight to the studio to finish reshooting the final celebrity’s scenes. Once that was done, she’d be free to leave.

They worked nonstop until a little after five in the afternoon before finally wrapping up.

Diana had just stepped into her dressing room when the door swung open behind her.

Assuming it was her assistant, she continued packing her bag.

"Lina, I probably won’t be coming back after—"

"Director Diana, it’s me."

Diana’s hands paused.

Her expression turned cold as she slowly turned around.

Sophie stood in the doorway, looking pale and worn out. Even so, her beauty was undeniable. Diana had to admit that Sophie’s features were nearly flawless. Even in an industry full of beautiful women, she would have ranked among the very best.

"What do you want?"

Diana was surprised by how calm her voice sounded.

Sophie wore a hat, and she pushed its brim up slightly before fixing her reddened eyes on Diana. Jealousy and hatred twisted together in her expression.

"It’s you, isn’t it? You’re the one who’s been sabotaging me!"

Diana sat down in a chair.

"What makes you say that? Do we even know each other?"

She calmly threw the question back at Sophie.

That only made the other woman angrier.

Sophie strode forward, lowering her voice.

"Diana, you know who I am, don’t you? You’ve known all along, haven’t you? I refuse to believe a woman could be so oblivious that she wouldn’t notice when her man has already given his heart to someone else!"

Sophie’s sudden accusation caught Diana off guard.

But the surprise quickly gave way to a cold, mocking smile.

"Who exactly are you? Liam’s mistress? Or just someone he uses for sex?"

Diana struck back without hesitation.

It was obvious Sophie had come looking for a fight. Every word she’d spoken was deliberately aimed at Diana’s most vulnerable spot.

There was no reason for Diana to hold back, either.

Sophie’s expression changed.

"So you do know!" she snapped. "What did you tell Liam? You’re the reason he pulled all my business deals and endorsements—and even had me replaced as the lead actress in that movie!"

The past few days had been a nightmare for her.

She’d never imagined everything could fall apart so suddenly. One moment, her career had been thriving; the next, it was as if a flood had swept away everything she’d worked for.

She was only an actress. Against someone with Liam’s power and influence, she had no way to fight back.

His ruthlessness terrified her. He’d cut off her professional opportunities and left her with nowhere to turn.

Sophie refused to believe Liam had made this decision entirely on his own.

There could only be one explanation: Diana hated her so much that she’d forced Liam to end their relationship and destroy her career.

A sneer tugged at the corners of Diana’s mouth.

She genuinely hadn’t known Liam had done all this.

But if Sophie intended to take her anger out on her, Diana wasn’t about to stand there and accept it.

"Who do you think you are that I’d go out of my way to concern myself with you?"

"What did you say?" Sophie stared at her in disbelief.

Diana’s expression remained icy. She enunciated every word.

"How special do you think you are to Liam? He could be with you, or he could be with someone else. You’re nothing but a shameless mistress. If this is how you choose to live, you’ll spend the rest of your life scrambling for whatever scraps people throw your way."

Diana slowly rose to her feet, a smile still playing on her lips.

But there was no warmth in it.

"You’re nothing but someone he used and discarded, yet you’ve somehow convinced yourself you’re important. It’s laughable."

Sophie hadn’t expected Diana to be so difficult to deal with.

She’d always assumed a woman like Diana would be easy to manipulate. On set, Diana was friendly with everyone. She was easygoing, took jokes in stride, and rarely showed a sharp edge. She’d seemed almost foolishly trusting.

Sophie had never imagined she could be so cutting when provoked.

Her face flushed, then drained of color.

But she barely had time to dwell on the insult.

Liam was determined to cut ties with her. No matter what she tried, he refused to see her. He’d even cut off the professional connections he’d once helped her secure, showing no concern for what happened to her afterward.

In the past, all she’d needed to do was act vulnerable and make herself appear pitiful. Liam would eventually soften and reach out to help her.

Now, he was the one pushing her toward ruin.

And Sophie was convinced Diana was responsible.

She hated admitting it, but Liam had always treated his wife differently.

He refused to spend the night with Sophie. He rarely showed her tenderness, and the resources he provided had always felt more like payment for an arrangement than an expression of affection. He’d never spoken to her about love.

Because he loved Diana.

He loved the woman standing right in front of her, a woman whose figure and looks couldn’t compare to Sophie’s own.

The realization drained the color from Sophie’s face. Tears gathered in her eyes, but she still refused to accept it.

She glared at Diana and suddenly laughed.

"And what does that make you? Aren’t you a failure, too? If you’d been able to hold on to Liam, would he ever have come looking for me?"

She stepped closer, her voice growing sharper.

"How many years have you been together? Are you really naive enough to believe a man and a woman can stay in love forever? Admit it—Liam has simply changed his mind. To him, you’re nothing more than the wife he’s stuck with after all these years!"

Diana’s hand froze as she reached for her purse.

She couldn’t deny that Sophie’s words had struck a nerve.

They were approaching their seven-year itch together.

Apparently, even she and Liam weren’t immune.

The unwavering loyalty and lifelong love she’d once believed in had crumbled before her eyes.

It was a painful wake-up call.

If even a love like hers and Liam’s—a love built on saving and redeeming each other—could change, what could she trust anymore?

Diana’s eyes burned, and her heart ached, but she refused to let Sophie see how deeply she’d been wounded.

There were some things she no longer wanted to discuss.

She picked up her purse and headed for the door.

But Sophie wasn’t willing to let her go.

"Liam told me himself that he’d grown tired of you a long time ago! He said you were neither here nor there to him anymore, and that the only reason he’d kept you around was out of a sense of duty."

She laughed bitterly.

"If you have any self-respect, you’ll step aside on your own. Clinging to a man who doesn’t love you anymore only makes you look pathetic!"

Smack!

A sharp slap cracked through the room.

Sophie’s head jerked to the side, and she stumbled before falling to the floor.

For a moment, the pain left her vision spinning.

Diana had struck her without hesitation.

Her lips had gone pale, but her voice was ice-cold.

"I’ve been far too polite to you. I’ve held back for so long, and you still managed to push me to this point."

Sophie had provoked her again and again.

Why should Diana continue putting up with it?

At first, she’d believed that when a relationship went wrong, both people usually bore some responsibility. She hadn’t thought it was worth getting into a fight with Sophie over Liam.

But Sophie had gone too far.

The past few days had already been agonizing. Diana had been holding herself together only because she didn’t want Rose to worry about her.

Now, she couldn’t take it anymore.

Her inner world had already collapsed. The vibrant, carefree woman she’d once been felt trapped in a living hell, suffocating beneath the weight of her own pain.

There were no words to describe what she was going through.

All she could do was pretend everything was normal and cling to the last scraps of dignity she had left.

And Sophie wouldn’t even let her have that peace.

Sophie looked up, barely seeming to notice the pain in her cheek.

But in that instant, she saw through Diana’s defenses.

Beneath that sharp tongue and seemingly unshakable composure was a woman who was hurting far more than she’d let on.

So, Diana did care.

A smile slowly spread across Sophie’s face despite the pain, and a malicious glint appeared in her eyes.

"You’re furious, aren’t you?"

She let out a bitter laugh.

"Well, I’ve got something even worse to tell you."

She looked straight at Diana.

"I’m pregnant. Two months along. And Liam is going to keep the baby."
