Chapter 1997: Everything In Place (2)
“No, because I didn’t have the gate with me.” Spacebreak Marquis said, “Then again, I could have followed the original tunnel to open a new tunnel at a faster speed and send Venerable Nether over faster. But why should I?”
She could have sent Venerable Nether over faster. But how would she benefit from that?
She smiled and said, “If I had been any faster that day, my death would be near as well. My race is good at teleportation, but we needed time to do so. That is what everyone knows. Usually, we will fail to teleport in time when it matters. If we have the ability to instantly reach a place, our race will cease to exist. A race like that will not be allowed to exist.”
Su Yu nodded. That was true. This was too terrifying.
Looking at the numerous gates around him, he inhaled deeply and said, “In short, this is the transportation hub of the Upper Realm, capable of reaching any place at an incredible speed.”
“Yeah.” Spacebreak Marquis looked at the gates and sighed, “We sacrificed so much for these gates. But most of them are as good as useless now. We never got to use much of them.”
She pointed at a large gate and said, “That gate is connected to the Dao Origin Land, right beyond the curtain of light. The power of laws inside the curtain can interfere with the teleportation too easily.”
She pointed at a different gate and continued, “This is the gate connected to the inner region of the Chaos Mountain. Back then, a pseudo king of my race entered the Chaos Mountain before suffering heavy injuries to the beasts there. There are many powerful ancient beasts in the inner region as well. You need to be careful when you’re there.”
She warned, “The inner region beasts are very powerful. They even have pseudo kings among them. I believe there are even Venerables among them, but we have never encountered one. The inner region is vast, with countless mountains. Nobody knows how large this mountain range actually is, but it stretches toward the end of the Upper Realm.”
She said, “As everyone knows, there is an end to the Upper Realm and the Lower Realm. Beyond the end, chaos lies. The Chaos Mountain is merely an extension of this chaos. It is more accurate to call it a place where the chaos interweaves with the Myriad Realms. Deep inside, there is a Hell Gate, the dividing line between the Myriad Realms and chaos itself. If you ask me where the chaos race is, I will point you to that gate.
“My race once explored the inner region as well, but we never dared to go too deeply. But the area we did explore wasn’t too suitable to hide too many people. It was only good for three to five hundred people. But according to our speculation, the chaos race is quite big, big enough to form an independent kingdom. In that case, they can only hide far deeper inside.”
Su Yu nodded. He looked at the various gates around him and licked his lips. There were so many of them. With this place under his control, he would be able to go anywhere he wanted.
Knowing what Su Yu was thinking, Spacebreak Marquis said, “Human Lord, I don’t suggest you use them that much. The moment you start using them frequently, the myriad races will know that my race has been opening all these tunnels. Don’t use them unless absolutely necessary.”
That pulled Su Yu out of his reverie. He nodded and said, “I understand. Don’t worry.”
He pointed at the gate connected to the Chaos Mountain and asked, “Can I take this gate with me?”
After a short silence, Spacebreak Marquis said, “Try not to move them if possible. The connecting point of the tunnel is here. When you move the gate, you will need a new connecting point.”
She added, “As long as the gate remains in the same line, we can always link it to the tunnel.
“Or to be clearer, imagine a line connecting this place to the Chaos Mountain. The gate will be effective anywhere within that straight line. But it won’t work the moment you move out of the line.
“Trying to use the gate anywhere else requires a new spatial tunnel. But creating a new spatial tunnel can be very conspicuous to the myriad races.”
Su Yu pictured the map of the Upper Realm in his mind and raised his brow, “In short, this gate will work even near the nether territory. Am I right?”
“Yes.” Spacebreak Marquis nodded, “Just make sure you’re somewhere on the line. If you really wish to take the gate with you, I can teach you the way to use it and connect to the tunnel.”
Su Yu’s eyes lit up as he asked, “Do the other gates work the same way?”
“Most of them.” Spacebreak Marquis nodded, “Remember, they only work within a straight line. You also need to remember one more thing. The moment the gate is activated, others might be able to detect the spatial tunnel. Thus, do not use these gates rashly.”
Su Yu smiled, “Once is enough.”
He wouldn’t need to use these gates more than once. Of course, he wouldn’t mind using these gates more when he grew stronger and exposure was no longer an issue.
As he thought of something else, he asked, “The Human Mountain is currently being moved to a new location. Will it enter the line between this place and the Chaos Mountain? Is it possible for me to teleport straight to the Human Mountain through this gate if that’s the case?”
“Perhaps.” Spacebreak Marquis said, “Let’s see. If they do end up moving the mountain to the location they mentioned previously, you can probably teleport to the foot of the mountain, but not on the mountain itself.”
“That’s enough.”
Su Yu was quite excited to learn that. This had been a very helpful visit. All these gates were precious beyond measure.
He said, “Can the myriad races detect these spatial tunnels when sweeping through the Upper Realm?”
“No.” Spacebreak Marquis shook her head, “As I said, these tunnels are all filled. They look the same as regular space. Those Venerables won’t notice anything unless they decide to shatter space everywhere they go. But since they are going to sweep through the danger zones, the gates connected to these danger zones aren’t as useful anymore. We can no longer use these danger zones as our emergency shelters.”
After asking about the destination of each gate, Su Yu inhaled deeply and said, “I will take all these gates with me. I will promise to fulfil any request the spatial beast race has in the future. As long as it’s something I can do, I won’t refuse it.”
Spacebreak Marquis was quite unwilling to give all these gates away. Most of them would be useless now, but she still wasn’t willing to let go of them. Their race had sacrificed too much to complete these gates.
She stared at the gates in silence for a long while before sighing. “Sure. Take them all. It’s a waste to leave them here anyway.”
Su Yu cupped his hands, “Thank you.”
He did not bother to hide his desire for these gates since it was true that he needed them. The spatial beast race had spent a hundred thousand years building this well-connected transportation network. Su Yu had Great Zhou King on his side, but not even Great Zhou King could create something similar without spending hundreds or even thousands of years working on it.
And that would require him to work non-stop on it. However, the spatial beasts had clearly not worked without stop on these tunnels. Rather, they would work on these tunnels every now and then when an opportunity presented itself.
It was likely that not even the myriad races could believe that the spatial beasts had created a web connecting the entirety of the Upper Realm over the years. Spacebreak Marquis remained silent.
After a short silence, Su Yu looked at the others and said, “Well, let’s teleport over right here. The space here is very stable so there won’t be many fluctuations. I believe the spatial beast race has also spent many years strengthening the space here, resulting in such a stable spatial environment.”
Spacebreak Marquis nodded, “Yes. We have spent many years stabilizing this place. You can teleport without creating spatial undulations here. Furthermore, the first usage of each tunnel will also result in minimal fluctuations. It will be barely detectable.
“Do keep in mind that it will be much harder for you to return from the same spatial tunnel. We built our tunnels to accommodate only one-way teleportations since we don’t want our enemies to come to us through these tunnels.”
“One-way teleportations?”
Su Yu frowned slightly.
Spacebreak Marquis nodded. She added, “But if you carry the teleportation gate with you, you can move both ways.”
Su Yu was relieved to hear that.
Clearly, the teleportation gates would be very important.
“Is the other end of the Chaos Mountain tunnel dangerous?”
“Somewhat. It is a mountain. Or to be precise, a cave inside the mountain. If you stay there for too long, the beasts there will be able to sense your presence.”
Spacebreak Marquis explained, “It is advisable that you cut off your connection to your dao after arriving to make things safer.”
Even though the spatial beasts couldn’t see the dao like Su Yu, they still knew that the reaction of the ancient beasts there was related to the rejection of the chaos dao. Su Yu wasn’t too worried about that as Great Ming King could already produce the concealment formations for their people.
Su Yu looked at the others and said, “You will teleport over directly. I won’t be going for now. You won’t even need Xing Yu’s token to suppress the fluctuations for you since there are minimal fluctuations for the first teleportation.
“After arriving, scout your surroundings and settle down. When the time arrives, I will notify you through Lan Tian and you can stab our enemies in the back.”
Wan Tiansheng said, “In that case, you have to be careful. With all these Venerables actively moving, things are getting more and more dangerous.”
After a short hesitation, he asked, “Why don’t you keep Senior Fat Ball with you?”
He looked at Fat Ball, who was looking back at him with blank eyes. What? Why was this guy mentioning his name?
Wan Tiansheng chuckled and said, “Senior Fat Ball might only be a heavenly king, but he has many powerful treasures. That shoe, in particular, is as powerful as a Venerable.”
Spacebreak Marquis was alarmed to hear that. As powerful as a Venerable?
This dog?
But Fat Ball remained humble. “No, that won’t work. Venerable sounds so strong. I ca’t win. I’m just a dog. I can only bite. I can’t fight. I’m only an Eternal…”
Su Yu was rendered speechless. That was what the white dog had said previously. The white dog had claimed that Daofuses were very powerful. He couldn’t win. Then, because he was in a rush to return and water his flowers, he stomped a heavenly king to death.
Strictly speaking, both Venerables and heavenly kings were still Daofuses. Since further advancement was no longer possible, a brand new tier had appeared within the Daofuse Realm.
Could Fat Ball be a match for Venerables with Culture King’s shoe? Nobody could say for sure. Then again, it also wouldn’t be so easy for a Venerable to kill a heavenly king. After all, they were still in the same cultivation level. A Venerable had yet to undergo an advancement that would grant a qualitative change.
Could Fat Ball be a match for a Venerable?
Nobody knew.
Su Yu did not expect to learn that information from Fat Ball. In Fat Ball’s mind, he was just a dog. He couldn’t defeat anyone. As for his actual strength, it would only be revealed in combat.
“No, have Fat Ball stay with you. The inner region of the Chaos Mountain is very dangerous. I suspect Control King’s lineage has experts at Hundred Battle’s level or even beyond that level through cultivating the chaos dao.”
Su Yu inhaled deeply and said, “The chaos dao is not restricted by the limitations of the myriad daos. Since I know this, Control King’s lineage should know it as well. If I were them, I would try to nurture a Master of Law through the chaos dao regardless of the price. Thus, I believe there are such experts among them. With Fat Ball around, you won’t be as helpless.”
Fat Ball blinked. Was this guy overestimating him?
That was a Master of Law!
Someone as powerful as the ancient human kings! How could he contend against such opponents? This new human lord sure was good at dreaming. Whatever. He couldn’t be bothered to explain.
“Senior Soy Bun and Senior Flatbun can stay inside my Mark of Civilization.” Su Yu said, “Lan Tian and Great Bamboo Marquis will be around. March is with us as well. We have enough strength to protect ourselves. I’ll find Xia Longwu and the others as soon as possible, so don’t worry about them. I’ll keep them all in my Mark of Civilization. Since they’re not even Daofuses, they won’t be noticed so easily.”
Wan Tiansheng said, “Fine. Be careful. Lan Tian, protect Emperor Yu well.”
Lan Tian gave a cheerful reply, “Don’t worry.”
Wan Tiansheng nodded. Lan Tian might seem crazy, but he was still quite reliable when it mattered.
