Chapter 339: Chapter Three Hundred And Thirty Eight

Just then, the bound assassin let out a mocking laugh. He raised his head slowly. His breathing was shallow and uneven, his chest barely rising beneath his dark, torn clothing. Dirt, sweat, and dried blood covered his pale cheeks. Yet, despite his beaten state, his eyes were bright with anger and defiance.

Camilla turned her head to look at him. She did not flinch, nor did she show any hesitation.

She took a few slow, steady steps toward the iron cell. Her slippers made soft, whispering sounds against the rough stone floor.

When she reached the front of his wooden chair, she stopped. She looked down at his bruised, dirty face. As she studied him closely, she noticed something small at the right corner of his lips.

It was a tiny smirk.

Even tied to a chair, bleeding from his wounds, and trapped deep inside a dark dungeon, the man held a look of quiet arrogance. He looked up at her as if he believed he was in complete control of the situation.

Camilla stared at that small, arrogant smirk. Her mind worked quickly, analyzing every detail of his posture, his eyes, and his tightened jaw.

"He thinks he has won," Camilla thought to herself. Her eyes narrowed slightly as she observed his tense shoulders. "He thinks he is safe because he refuses to talk. He has been trained to endure pain. He has been trained to keep quiet even in the face of death."

Instead of showing anger or frustration, Camilla remained calm. Her expression did not change. She slowly crouched down, bringing her face right to his eye level. Her eyes locked onto his. She did not blink.

When she spoke, her voice was soft, gentle, and slow, almost like a mother speaking softly to a sleeping child.

"Even if you don’t tell me who sent you," Camilla whispered softly, her words cold and measured, "I will find out soon. It’s just a matter of time."

The assassin’s eyes narrowed slightly. For a brief second, his confident smirk faltered. The tiny curve at the edge of his mouth flattened out as he looked into her unyielding, fearless eyes. He had expected her to threaten him, or to hit him. He had not expected this dead, terrifying calmness.

Seeing his confidence shake, Camilla’s own mouth curved upward. Her smirk widened, turning into a cold, ruthless smile.

"Do you know why I quickly killed your other comrade that came looking for you in the bush?" she asked softly, leaning a fraction closer.

The assassin stayed silent. He clamped his jaws together tightly, forcing his face to remain blank. He tried with all his strength to hide his growing discomfort and keep his emotions under tight control. But the sudden, rapid rise and fall of his chest betrayed him. His breathing was growing faster.

Camilla leaned in even closer. She moved her head right next to his ear, leaning in to whisper directly against his skin. Her breath was cool as it brushed against his ear.

"Because I know him," Camilla whispered in a dark, quiet voice that sent a shiver down his spine. "That scar on his eye was my doing. He tried to kill me once before, and I gave him that warning not to mess with me. He works for Lady Isabel Reed."

She pulled back slowly, her face resting just inches from his.

She saw it immediately. The assassin’s eyes widened in genuine shock. The small amount of color remaining in his pale face drained away instantly. The calm, trained killer was gone in an instant. He had not expected her to know about his connection to the Reeds.

Camilla stood up straight. A quiet, terrifying chuckle escaped her throat. It was not a happy sound; it was the low sound of a terrifying woman.

She looked down at his left leg. A fresh, dark bloodstain covered his dark trousers where the lead ball had been embedded in his thigh during the attack in the forest.

Without a single word of warning, Camilla raised her foot.

She slammed the heel of her shoe straight into the center of the open gunshot wound on his leg. She did not just press it lightly; she dug the hard leather sole deep into the torn, raw flesh, twisting her heel back and forth with her full body weight.

"Like I said before," Camilla said smoothly, looking down at him with a dead, merciless glare, "I will find out soon."

The impact brought instant agony. The assassin’s mouth flew wide open. A sharp, blood-curdling scream echoed off the hard stone walls of the dungeon.

"ARRRGH! AAAAH!"

His body jerked violently against the thick ropes. The chair creaked loudly under his wild movements. Thick veins bulged along his neck, and cold sweat poured down his forehead as blinding pain shot through his wounded leg.

Camilla’s smile grew wider as she listened to his loud screams. She did not feel a single drop of pity or hesitation. This was the man who had tried to take Damon’s life. This was the man who had almost caused the entire world to break apart in ruin.

She leaned her weight forward, adding even more pressure to her heel, grinding the leather deeper into his raw muscle.

The assassin sobbed, his head falling back against the chair as he gasped frantically for air.

Finally, Camilla lifted her foot and stepped back. The sole of her leather shoe was stained bright red with his fresh blood. She looked down at the dark mark on her footwear, but her face showed no disgust. She did not even bother to wipe it off against the floor.

She turned away from the screaming man and looked toward Kade, who was standing near the cell door.

"Tie him facing up," Camilla commanded, her voice suddenly switching back to a sharp, businesslike tone. "Make sure he is very secured. I don’t want him moving his head or body around at all."

Kade straightened his posture, listening intently to her words.

"Hang a bucket of water over his head," Camilla continued, pointing her finger toward the ceiling right above the chair. "And make a tiny hole at the bottom of the bucket to let small drops of water fall on his face. Make sure his eyes are forced to look straight up at the bucket, and make sure there is no disturbance down here. I want everywhere dead silent till he begs to spill the information himself."

Kade blinked in surprise.
