Chapter 343: Chapter 343: house party XIII

Amelia narrowed her eyes.

"Why do you look so pleased with yourself?"

"Do I?"

"Yes."

William ignored her question.

He leaned back in his chair.

"All right. First game."

Everyone looked at him.

Vivienne rested her arms lightly on the table.

William looked around the table.

Then he smiled.

"It’s simple."

He pointed to the person sitting beside each of them.

"You look at the person sitting on your right."

Everyone followed his gesture.

Vivienne glanced to her right.

Christopher.

He looked back at her.

She smiled.

William continued.

"And you tell us one physical feature of that person that you dislike the most."

There was a brief silence.

Then Claire laughed.

"That’s it?"

"That’s it."

Eleanor looked at William suspiciously.

"That’s a horrible game."

"It’s an icebreaker."

"How is insulting someone’s appearance an icebreaker?"

"It gets people talking."

Scott laughed.

"I suppose it does."

Rhea looked toward Elise.

"This is going to be funny."

Elise nodded.

"Very."

William raised a finger.

"But there’s one rule."

Everyone looked at him.

William paused.

"For now, that’s all you need to know."

Amelia stared at him.

"William."

He smiled innocently.

"What?"

"You definitely have something else planned."

"I always do."

A few people laughed.

William looked around the table.

"All right. We’ll go around one by one. Okay. I’ll start."

Amelia looked at him.

William turned toward her.

"Your physical feature that I dislike the most..."

He paused dramatically.

Amelia already looked suspicious.

William smiled.

"...are your dimples."

Amelia stared at him.

"My dimples?"

"Yes."

William put a hand over his chest.

"Because they make me weak in the knees."

The table erupted in laughter.

Amelia rolled her eyes.

"You’re ridiculous."

William grinned.

"But you smiled."

"I did not."

"You did."

Amelia tried not to laugh.

William looked around the table triumphantly.

"See?"

He pointed at her.

"That smile."

Everyone laughed again.

Amelia shook her head.

"You’re impossible."

William leaned back in his chair.

"All right."

He looked around the table.

"Now you understand the game."

Scott laughed.

"That was barely something you dislike."

"Exactly."

William smiled.

"It doesn’t have to be serious."

Claire looked at him suspiciously.

"Then what’s the point?"

William shrugged.

"You’ll see."

A few people laughed.

William gestured around the table.

"Now it’s your turn."

--

Amelia looked toward Scott.

She studied him for a moment.

Scott waited.

Finally, she smiled.

"Your eyebrows."

Scott’s brows furrowed.

"My eyebrows?"

"Yes."

"What’s wrong with them?"

"Nothing."

Amelia shrugged.

"I had to choose something."

Everyone laughed.

Scott shook his head.

--

Scott looked toward Claire.

Claire waited.

Then Scott answered.

"Your cheeks."

Claire immediately frowned.

"My cheeks?"

Scott smiled sheepishly.

"Because they’re so cute I’m too tempted to pinch them."

Claire gave him an eyeroll, but she was smiling.

--

Claire turned toward Leo.

Her eyes narrowed.

Leo raised an eyebrow.

"Why are you looking at me like that?"

"I’m choosing."

"Be kind."

"I’m trying."

She looked at him for another second.

"Your ears."

Leo touched one instinctively.

"My ears?"

"Yes."

"They’re normal."

Leo sighed.

"Apparently, that’s not enough."

Everyone laughed.

--

Leo looked toward Evelyn.

For a moment, he paused.

Then he answered,

"Your face."

Evelyn blinked.

"My face?"

Leo’s cheeks turned slightly pink.

"Yes."

He looked away for a second.

"Because it can ruin lives."

The table laughed.

Evelyn stared at him.

Then, slowly, she smiled.

For once, she felt rather pleased with herself.

"Thank you."

Leo nodded.

Evelyn sat back, satisfied.

--

Then it was Evelyn’s turn.

She looked toward Damian.

For the first time that evening, she really looked at him.

She had seen him before.

Of course she had.

But sitting this close to him was different.

He was very handsome.

His black hair was neat, his features sharp.

And his eyes—

They were so much like Anthony’s.

For a moment, Evelyn found herself lost in them.

Blue.

Very blue.

She quickly looked away.

She had been staring.

When she looked back, Damian was still watching her.

Evelyn felt a little embarrassed.

He really was handsome.

It was just a shame his taste in women was so lacking.

She smiled faintly.

"Your eyes."

Damian gave a small nod.

"All right."

Evelyn looked away.

She had lied.

She actually liked his eyes the most.

--

Then it was Damian’s turn.

He looked toward Vivienne.

Their eyes met.

For a moment, neither of them said anything.

Then, Vivienne gave him another tiny, apologetic smile

Damian saw it.

But he didn’t return it.

His eyes remained on hers for another moment.

Then his gaze dropped to her mouth.

The mouth that had smiled at him.

The mouth that had kissed him.

The mouth that had told him she would think about what he wanted.

The mouth that had lied to him that morning.

"Your mouth."

Vivienne blinked.

Her eyes widened slightly.

She understood.

Of course she did.

He disliked her mouth because of what she had said.

Because of the lie.

Because of everything that had happened.

For a second, she didn’t know what to say.

Then she bit her lip.

She looked down.

It hurt a little.

But she couldn’t exactly be upset with him.

She had done it.

And if that was what he disliked about her right now, then she would accept it.

At least now she knew.

She lifted her eyes again and gave a small nod, as though his answer didn’t bother her.

"Fair enough."

Her voice was light.

Normal.

Everyone was still watching.

So she smiled faintly and let the game continue.

--

Vivienne looked toward her right.

Christopher.

Her entire expression changed.

There he was.

Her boyfriend.

Looking at her with that familiar, quiet smile.

And suddenly, the game became much harder.

She looked at him.

Really looked at him.

His platinum-blond hair.

His gray eyes.

His face.

His smile.

His jaw.

His lips.

His neck.

She liked everything.

Everything.

She couldn’t possibly pick something she disliked.

Her eyes drifted down.

His Adam’s apple.

She stared at it.

Even that was beautiful.

Oh, this was ridiculous.

She felt herself beginning to blush.

Christopher noticed.

"What?"

"Nothing."

Vivienne laughed nervously.

"I can’t think of anything."

"You have to."

She looked at Christopher again.

He was still smiling.

She panicked slightly.

"Your Adam’s apple."

There was a pause.

Christopher chuckled.

Vivienne’s cheeks grew warm.

--

Christopher’s turn came next.

He looked toward Eleanor.

He considered her for a moment.

Then simply said,

"Your ears."

Eleanor blinked.

"My ears?"

"Yes."

She waited.

Christopher shrugged.

"Just because."

Eleanor nodded.

"Fair enough."

And with that, she simply turned toward the next person.

--

Eleanor looked toward Ronald.

She studied him briefly.

"Your chin."

Ronald touched it.

"My chin?"

"Yes."

"Why?"

Eleanor shrugged.

"I had to choose something."

Ronald laughed.

"All right."

--

Ronald looked toward Rhea.

Rhea was Scott’s sister.

So he just thought, what a bummer.

"Your hair."

Rhea touched her hair.

"My hair?"

"Yes."

"What’s wrong with it?"

"Nothing."

Ronald shrugged.

Rhea pouted.

"Fine."

--

Rhea looked toward Anthony.

And immediately, she felt herself becoming self-conscious.

He was ridiculously handsome.

His golden hair.

His blue eyes.

That composed expression.

She couldn’t think of anything.

Absolutely nothing.

From across the table, Evelyn noticed the blush appearing on her friend’s face.

She narrowed her eyes.

Oh, no.

Don’t tell me she’s crushing on my man now.

Rhea quickly looked down.

Then back at Anthony.

"Your hand."

Anthony glanced at his hand then nodded politely.

Rhea blushed more.

Evelyn rolled her eyes.

--

Anthony’s turn came next.

He looked toward Elise.

Elise immediately became conscious of herself.

She sat a little straighter.

Anthony looked at her.

Elise could feel her face warming.

He sighed quietly.

He seemed to realize she was becoming uncomfortable.

So he didn’t make a big deal out of it.

"Your temple."

Elise blinked.

"My temple?"

Anthony nodded.

"Yes."

Elise touched the side of her face.

Anthony leaned back.

--

Finally, Elise looked toward William.

She studied him.

William waited.

Then she smiled.

"Your forehead."

William touched it.

"My forehead?"

"Yes."

He looked offended.

"Why?"

Elise laughed.

"Don’t know. Maybe you need some bangs?"

William shook his head.

"I’m surrounded by people with no appreciation for beauty."

Amelia laughed.

"Don’t worry, I like your brushed back hair."

William grinned.

"Fine."

He looked around the table.

"So..."

Everyone looked at him.

"We’ve all answered."

A few people nodded.

William leaned back in his chair.

"Now..."

He smiled.

Everyone immediately became suspicious.

"We all remember what we answered, right?"

Anthony narrowed his eyes.

"William."

William laughed.

"Relax."

He looked around the table.

"Because now..."

He paused dramatically.

"...we get to the actual rule."
