Goldie Thorne hadn’t wanted to sell in the first place. He’d bought it to keep the old couple from getting lonely, and besides, money could always be earned again. Still, the idea of buying a house in the city had tempted him, and he planned to save up some more money to buy a nice one next year.

Time flew by, and soon it was the season when the sweet osmanthus bloomed. On Millstone Peak, nearly every household had an osmanthus tree. The Thorne family had two planted in their courtyard. The osmanthus was considered an auspicious tree, associated with nobility due to a pun on its name, so it was a popular choice for families to plant.

There was news from Phoebe Thorne’s side of things. Just as expected, that scumbag Brian Chapman couldn’t handle being alone and had gone for another tryst with the little widow. The men Goldie Thorne had hired managed to photograph the shameless couple during their affair. Even though the pictures were in black and white, everything that should have been exposed was on full display. There was no such thing as mosaic censorship back then, resulting in some truly spectacular photos—the kind that would leave a judge dumbfounded.

Goldie Thorne got the photos. There were quite a lot of them; an entire roll of film had been used up, filled with passionate moments between Brian Chapman and the little widow.

"Thanks for the hard work, everyone. I’ll treat you all to drinks later."

"Don’t mention it. Just make sure to include us brothers the next time you’ve got something good going on, Goldie."

"Of course. I’ll have a new shipment in a few days. We’ll all get rich together!"

Goldie Thorne promised them a cut. He had met these friends while selling goods. He would get his merchandise from Adrian Hawthorne and then develop his own downline, much like a distributor. He wasn’t working as hard as he used to, but he was earning a lot more money.

"Stick with Goldie, and we’ll eat well!"

The men flattered him a bit more, but Goldie Thorne just smiled. He had grown much more composed than before.

After parting ways with his buddies, he went straight to Phoebe Thorne’s place and showed her the photos. Phoebe Thorne was surprisingly calm after seeing them. She sneered, "So it really is that little widow. I knew they were sleeping together!"

"What are you going to do?" Goldie Thorne asked.

"Divorce him. Give me a few of the photos. I’m going to talk to Brian Chapman first." Phoebe Thorne had made up her mind. She couldn’t live with this man a moment longer; she had to get a divorce.

"In that case, you need to demand more benefits. The Chapman family is shameless. You have to get everything you can from them all at once, because they definitely won’t give you anything later on."

Phoebe Thorne gave a bitter smile. "His family is dirt poor. What could they possibly give me? Right now, I just want a divorce. I can support Amanda and Allister by driving a pedicab."

"We can’t let that bastard get off so easy!"

Goldie Thorne gritted his teeth in anger. The Chapman family had wasted over a decade of his sister’s life, and she was getting nothing out of it. She even had to raise the children on her own. ’My sister must have had eighteen lifetimes of bad luck to end up like this.’

"After you get the divorce, take these photos to his workplace and cause a scene. Get him fired!" Goldie Thorne had an idea.

But Phoebe Thorne hesitated. "If he loses his salary, what will happen to Gentry? He’ll go hungry."

She wouldn’t have cared if the rest of the Chapman family starved to death, but she knew she wouldn’t be able to take her eldest son with her. He would be the one to suffer, and she couldn’t bear that.

"Sis, think about it," Goldie Thorne said with a smile. "If Brian Chapman can’t even fill his own stomach, how is he going to provide for Gentry? You won’t have to do a thing. He’ll come begging you to take Gentry off his hands."

Phoebe Thorne’s face lit up. "Then that’s the plan. I’ll talk to that bastard about the divorce first. If he refuses, I’ll take him to court."

"Do you want me to get our older brothers to come over?"

"No, that’s alright. You all have your own work to do. I’ll come home once I’ve handled things here."

"Alright, but call our second brother if you need anything. Don’t try to take on the Chapman family by yourself," Goldie Thorne advised.

As he left, Goldie Thorne gave Phoebe Thorne some money. He really didn’t have any time to spare. Adrian Hawthorne had acquired a large shipment of woolen cloth, all winter fabrics, and wanted him to go to Tristone to develop the market. Goldie had to hurry over.

In the blink of an eye, another half-month had passed. By the end of October, Tang Xiaonan was already wearing a thick winter coat. Phoebe Thorne returned, holding Amanda Chapman by the hand and carrying Allister on her back. She had a bundle of her belongings with her, and she also had her divorce certificate.
