"I am the authority on this train. If you have a complaint, you can write it in the suggestion book. It’s posted in Car 13."

The train policeman’s voice grew even colder. He was confident his handling of the situation was flawless, so he wasn’t afraid of this woman’s complaints. Besides, his superiors had no time to deal with such an unreasonable woman.

"What kind of attitude is that? Where’s the conductor? I want to speak with him!"

Bernice was furious. For the past two years, everything had been going her way, and this was the first time anyone had spoken to her so rudely. The nerve! ’This man probably makes just a few dozen yuan a month,’ she thought. ’A single bottle of my perfume costs more than that. Who does he think he is, putting on airs in front of me!’

"Ma’am, I am the conductor. We will be arriving at Kenton Station shortly. I’ve already contacted the staff at Kenton Railway Station, and they will arrange for a car to take you to the hospital. We will also refund you the difference in your ticket fare."

The conductor was a capable-looking, poised middle-aged woman in uniform with a chic, ear-length bob. She had already heard about the incident from the attendant and had no issue with the policeman’s actions. Furthermore, she couldn’t stand the gaudy and vixenish Bernice. ’So what if she has a little money?’

No matter how much Bernice screeched, neither the conductor nor the policeman gave her any face. They didn’t reprimand Patrick Thorne and his siblings, either. They were just a few kids, and the three of them had been quite sensible, even offering thirty yuan as compensation—which was likely their father’s entire monthly salary. Punishing the children further would have been wrong.

When the train arrived at Kenton Railway Station, Bernice had no choice but to get off early, however reluctant she was. She was worried her arm would get infected and become harder to treat. But as she left, the look she gave Patrick Thorne and his siblings was venomous. She even asked for their address, clearly planning to get even later.

However, the address Patrick Thorne gave was for another village dozens of miles away. Bernice could search until her head exploded and she’d never find them.

Adrian Hawthorne and Clayton Xavier had come over as well, but they stayed out of sight, knowing that revealing themselves would only make things worse. After Bernice got off, the policeman and the conductor even came to comfort Tang Xiaonan and the others, telling them not to be scared and that everything would be fine.

Tang Xiaonan felt a little guilty. ’People really are so kind these days.’

Back in their compartment, Jim Thorne finally explained what happened. "I just couldn’t stand the sight of that vixen. I tilted my body, the boiling water splashed on her, and now it’s definitely going to peel off a layer of her skin. You owe me some roasted chicken for this!"

Jim Thorne clapped Adrian Hawthorne heavily on the shoulder. Past Kenton was a city called Zarovia that was famous for its delicious roasted chicken. Jim had tried it once before and had been craving it ever since.

"Deal. I’ll buy you as much as you can eat," Adrian Hawthorne said with a smile, feeling a sense of satisfaction himself.

’Burns are hardest to heal in this weather,’ he thought. ’Bernice’s arm will definitely scar. And my father is obsessed with appearances. That dimwit Jim really did just get lucky.’

"Will that bad woman’s arm have a scar?" Tang Xiaonan asked with interest. She was desperately hoping it would leave an ugly one. Then we’ll see how she tries to seduce men.

"It’ll definitely scar, and it won’t be a small one."

Clayton Xavier stated with certainty. Tang Xiaonan’s delight was written all over her face, and she made no attempt to hide her joy. Ellie Ashton was also pleased. "Serves her right!"

But she still had one regret. She said to Jim, "You should have splashed it on that vixen’s face! Disfiguring her would have been really satisfying!"

Jim felt a pang of regret too. "I wasn’t thinking that far ahead. Too bad she already got off."

Otherwise, he could have done it again. But he would have had to be stealthy about it. You can’t use the same trick twice; the train policeman definitely wouldn’t have believed him a second time.
