"Impossible! A man can’t just be with one woman for his entire life."

"They can," Melody Monroe retorted.

"You, be quiet!" Keith Coleman was so mad he was about to cry.

This was the first time he’d ever felt so attacked! He’d had his fill of President Fairchild’s public displays of affection—so much so that it was giving him a stomachache.

"Melody, don’t be so trusting of men! How could anyone be with just one person forever? That includes my boss, I’m serious."

"Your boss has had girlfriends before?"

"Do you think it’s possible for a normal man not to have any?"

Melody Monroe frowned.

Keith Coleman swallowed. He just couldn’t accept that someone could love one person their whole life. As for telling a barefaced lie, he’d thrown caution to the wind.

"How many?" Melody Monroe asked again.

"Not too many. You can count them on one hand, anyway."

"When was the most recent one? Who was she?" Melody Monroe had to admit, she was jealous. Incredibly jealous.

The others at the table looked completely lost, having no idea what the two of them were talking about.

"You’d better not ask me about that kind of thing. If you really want to know, go ask my boss." Keith Coleman couldn’t keep up the lie any longer.

Melody Monroe took a deep breath, picked up her glass, and chugged a mouthful of alcohol.

The others watched Melody Monroe, confused. Hadn’t she said she had to go pick someone up later? That she wouldn’t be drinking? So why was she suddenly chugging it?

After she finished her drink, Melody Monroe lifted her wrist to check her watch. Evan Fairchild would be landing in an hour.

’Am I being too petty?’

Evan Fairchild walked out of the airport, but the woman who had promised to pick him up was nowhere to be seen.

Just then, Melody Monroe’s phone rang. She answered it without even looking at the screen.

"Where are you?"

"Me? Where am I?"

’She’s been drinking?’ Evan Fairchild’s expression darkened.

"Who are you with?"

"Keith... Keith Coleman." Melody Monroe paused. "Are you... Mr. Fairchild?"

Evan Fairchild fell silent.

"He hung up?" Melody Monroe tilted her head and set her phone down. "Keith, I feel like... there was something important I was supposed to do, but I can’t remember what it is."

"If you can’t remember, don’t worry about it. Let’s drink."

"You tell me, just how many girlfriends has your boss had?"

"Did he have any?"

Melody Monroe grabbed Keith Coleman by his shirt. "You just said he did!"

"Then he did! If I said he did, then he did."

Melody Monroe’s face fell. "He told me I was the only one who ever touched his heart," she mumbled. "He said I was the first... and the last."

"And you actually believe what a man says!"

"I believe him. He’s not like you."

"All men are the same. We’re all scumbags!"

"Come on, drink up."

"Drink."

Tommy drove the car right up to the restaurant. Inside sat Evan Fairchild, his face as dark and menacing as the Grim Reaper himself.
