Transmigrated as The Best Female Character of the Year
Chapter 443 - 441: Attending Your Engagement Banquet
Lana Sheffield was left speechless, unable to offer a single word in rebuttal.
He spoke so casually, but she felt like she was on pins and needles.
"This money... it isn’t all mine. How could I possibly have that much? Some of it was from friends who invested, and some of it I borrowed. I was just trying to help you back then. I had no idea... This industry seemed so profitable, but I never imagined how treacherous it could be. I know I was wrong. From now on, I’ll listen to everything you say." Lana Sheffield walked over and hugged Christopher Sterling’s arm, cajoling him.
"How much of it was your own money?"
"Eighteen million," Lana Sheffield replied in a small voice.
Suddenly, there was a knock on the door.
"Come in."
Rose Shaw pushed the door open and walked in. Her gaze landed on Lana Sheffield’s hands, which were clinging to Christopher Sterling’s arm. Her eyes lingered for only a moment before she quickly looked away.
"President Sterling, I’d like to request a week off for next week."
"Time off? What’s so important that you need a whole week?"
"I’m getting engaged next week."
Christopher Sterling’s lips twitched, but he made no sound.
"You’re getting engaged?" Lana Sheffield asked, somewhat surprised.
"Yes. I’ll arrange for my work next week to be taken care of in advance. If anything comes up, you can always contact me by phone. President Sterling, you’re a very busy man, so for the engagement party next week, I won’t trouble you with an invitation."
"How could we possibly miss it? An event this important, of course we have to be there. Right, darling?" Lana Sheffield said, hugging Christopher Sterling’s arm and looking at him sweetly.
"I’m free next week. An engagement party is a major event; it’s only right that I attend."
"Really, there’s no need."
"Rose Shaw, that’s just not right. That’s no way to behave. Or is there something about this engagement of yours that you’re trying to hide?"
Christopher Sterling shot Lana Sheffield a look, and she immediately fell silent.
"There’s nothing to hide. I’ll be sure to personally send an invitation to President Sterling and Mrs. Sterling," Rose Shaw said before turning to leave.
The interruption over, Lana Sheffield immediately picked up where she left off. "Darling, they’ve already gotten wind that the production is in trouble. I was thinking we could still recast one of the roles to see if we can salvage the loss, but then Rose Shaw just halted all subsequent work on the show! I’ve been completely wiped out!"
"And you think recasting a lead role is as simple as ordering dinner?"
"I really know I was wrong! I won’t be so impulsive anymore. I’ll be sure to discuss everything with you, and I’ll communicate more with Rose Shaw, I promise. The debt collectors will be knocking on our door any day now. I’m already a few months pregnant, and I can barely eat or sleep. If I have to keep worrying about all this, what if it affects our baby?"
Christopher Sterling looked at Lana Sheffield’s swelling belly, then raised a hand and placed it on her stomach.
He immediately felt the baby move, and a faint, almost imperceptible smile touched his eyes.
"Baby, can you feel Daddy too? Look how much you’re moving for him."
"What was the due date you told me again?"
"November twenty-third."
"A little over two months to go."
"That’s right."
"Just focus on resting at home."
"Then what about all the money I owe?"
Christopher Sterling pulled out a card and placed it in Lana Sheffield’s hand. "Use this for your expenses from now on."
Lana Sheffield stared at the black card in her hand, stunned.
"Darling..."
"I’ll take you home."
"Okay! Can you stay and have dinner with me at home tonight?"
"Alright."
