Chapter 649: Chapter 337: Consequences of Taking the Medicine
An hour later, Juhua was hunched over the small square table in the kitchen, feasting with abandon on a table laden with delicacies. Yang Family and He watched her with beaming smiles. Yun Ying had also filled a small bowl of rice to keep her company, but she was stunned by the speed at which Juhua’s chopsticks flew.
Juhua had a couple of bites of scrambled eggs with toon, then picked up a piece of red-braised roe deer. Her eyes darted to the venison, and feeling her mouth getting dry, she quickly raised her bowl of deer bone soup for a few sips. She was so busy eating she didn’t have time to speak.
After finally managing to wolf down some food and take the edge off her hunger, Juhua paused to catch her breath. She turned to Yun Ying and asked, "You got rid of all that game?"
’Did Qin Feng and Yun Ying just slaughter them once they were no longer needed? Wild animals are hard to keep, after all.’
Yun Ying nodded with a small smile. "As soon as their wounds healed, my senior brother slaughtered them. I felt it was a little cruel, but then I figured that’s why people hunt them in the first place—to eat. So there was no point in being hypocritical about it."
Juhua asked another question or two before lowering her head and diving back into her food.
Qin Feng entered to find a peculiar scene: Juhua was chewing with her cheeks puffed out, her chopsticks already holding another piece of venison by her mouth, ready to be stuffed in. Her eyes roamed ceaselessly over the table, while her left hand protectively cupped a bowl of soup, as if she might drink from it at any second.
Yang Family and He watched from the side, their faces alight with joy. Yun Ying, however, stared at her, dumbfounded and in utter disbelief.
A sense of relief washed over him as he watched Juhua devour her food. He let out an amused cough, and when everyone looked up, he offered Juhua a kind warning. "You shouldn’t eat until you’re completely full. After starving for a few days, it’s best to hold back. Just eat until you’re about half-full for now."
Yun Ying snapped out of her daze. "Oh my goodness! I completely forgot about that. Juhua, you have to stop eating. The amount you’ve put away is terrifying."
Juhua knew he was right—she was aware of the principle, after all. She reluctantly set down her chopsticks. "That’s so weird. I’ve eaten so much, but why do I still feel hungry?"
Qin Feng smiled. "You’ll probably feel like eating constantly for the next few days, but you can’t just eat to your heart’s content, or you’ll burst. If the cravings get too bad, just eat some fruit—I noticed the peaches and Yingtao at your house are ripe!"
Juhua nodded. She lowered her head and finished the soup in her bowl, one spoonful at a time, before finally telling Qin Feng, "Well, this was already served. It wouldn’t be right to pour it back."
Hearing this, Yun Ying and Qin Feng couldn’t help themselves and burst out laughing.
After he finished laughing, Qin Feng said to Juhua, "Alright, come over here. Let me check your pulse again."
Juhua obediently followed the pair of fellow apprentices into the main hall for an examination. She was truly in awe of them now. ’I have no idea what kind of miracle elixir they gave me, but it couldn’t have been anything ordinary. To sleep for three days and nights and then wake up brimming with energy’—at least, relative to how she used to feel—’could anything be more bizarre?’ She didn’t dare ask for details. ’Knowing the truth wouldn’t do me any good. I don’t have the money to pay for something like that, so I’d better just play dumb.’
Qin Feng carefully checked Juhua’s pulse and asked how she felt after waking up. He nodded, satisfied. "Excellent. Aside from controlling your diet as I mentioned, you also need to be more active over the next few days. Then again, I don’t think I need to tell you that. It seems to me you’re on your feet all day long."
He also instructed her to go to bed early and wake up early for the time being, and to avoid overly greasy foods.
"Drink more light soups, like that tofu and Ni Qiu soup you made before. That was very good. Eating some venison is fine, too. I’ve already spoken with your brother; we’re going to cure half of the venison and store it in the cellar for you to eat a little each day. In about half a month, your diet can go back to normal."
Qin Feng gave Juhua another round of instructions, briefly discussed the pharmacy with Yun Ying, and then took his leave.
Juhua let out a sigh and asked Yun Ying, "I was laid up for several days. My family must have been worried sick, weren’t they? How did you explain it to them?"
Yun Ying smiled. "My senior brother told them that because you’re pregnant, he didn’t dare treat you rashly. That’s why he used this method of gentle, medicinal nourishment. It never would have worked if I’d said it, but coming from him, they believed it instantly."
Juhua nodded. "Your senior brother is quite famous around these parts. You have no idea how much everyone respects him. Have you had time to think about the proposal I made the other day? Have you made any plans?"
Yun Ying met her gaze. "Right now, I don’t have the heart to think about anything else. Let’s talk again after you’ve had the baby." Seeing Juhua’s stunned expression and fearing she would get the wrong idea, she added with a light laugh, "Besides, you can give me a hand then too, can’t you?"
Juhua had a flash of insight. ’She’s carrying this emotional burden. She won’t be able to settle her mind and properly teach an apprentice until she sees me give birth safely.’ So, Juhua dropped the subject. Instead, she solemnly thanked Yun Ying for taking care of her over the past few days, then stood up and invited her to go pick some Yingtao.
