Memory Dive offered Jiang three minutes inside a record and no protection for the body left behind.

Hessa read that line first.

"Good," Jiang said. "I was worried the system had become generous."

The acquisition review opened above the sealed modern edition packet. Unlike the provisional tests, every permanent condition remained visible at once.

That limit pleased Jiang more than the ability.

"And if I hold it, you will wonder whether I stopped the source or stopped you."

"That is also true."

She lowered her hand from the term. "Then Hessa keeps first-use stop. I keep your return card. Those are different powers."

No romance classification, command, household, or broad permission appeared. They had divided a dangerous task without pretending trust was finished.

The contamination label could show that a sentence lacked a selected source. It could not prove who wrote the sentence, whether a pressure track was alive, or whether two external additions shared a sender.

Memory Dive could compare records without granting them bodies. It could keep blanks blank, expose an external addition, and let him leave before a source finished its violence. It could also blind him for three minutes and leave eight seconds of movement debt afterward.

The claimant already used indexes as corridors. Refusing the skill would not close those corridors. It would only leave Jiang outside with fewer ways to see their boundaries.
