Jiang returned to the empty coast with one rule written above every source.

Blank did not mean available.

Hessa had spent eight minutes turning that principle into a test. The atlas packet, scholarly ship-loss rows, and clothing categories remained the only selected groups. Beside them sat a fourth display with no historical source behind it.

It was a quarantine slate. Anything placed there would be recorded as an external addition and discarded on exit.

“You made the lie its own chair,” Jiang said.

“No,” Hessa replied. “I put a wastebasket beside the chairs. Do not invite it to sit.”

Aylin sealed the return order and checked Jiang’s local position between the padded chocks. His breast rested on stone, his feet remained clear, and the wound along his wake-keel showed no blood.

“And if the claimant writes my name on the coast?” Jiang asked.

“Leave the coast blank,” Conti said. “A sentence outside a source is still outside when it sounds confident.”

“That advice could empty half the internet.”

Hessa’s mouth twitched. “We only have twelve hours.”

Jiang accepted the second reconstruction.

The clothing categories appeared beside blank wearer fields. No coat had a shoulder. No boots contained feet. Jiang’s beak-forward orientation gave him direction, while his current body remained in the Earth room.

The quarantine slate waited beyond a heavy black boundary. It displayed no invitation and offered no empty body.

At00:11, four knocks crossed the white coast.

They followed the same nonphysical pressure category detected during the first reconstruction. Compatibility did not establish the same sender or event. Jiang kept those fields closed.

Jiang lowered his beak-forward reference and drew the pressure along the outer edge of the black boundary. His emperor body could not walk inside the reconstruction, yet its balance map still gave him a low center and a stable direction.

The first pull missed. The track struck the blank long-coat wearer again and left it unchanged.

Jiang adjusted as he would against a crosscurrent. He stopped dragging from the front and let the pressure pass his reference line, then closed the boundary behind it.

“Yes,” Jiang said. “It bothers me less than giving it a dead man’s coat because I wanted an answer.”
