Transformed into a Penguin: My Evolution Penguin System

Chapter 325: The System Had Called the Cage an Upgrade

  • Next Chapter

The oldest registry entry called Jiang a containment problem.

It did not use his name. The five memory rooms folded into narrow columns beneath a route record created before the labyrinth had called this place a Restoration Workroom, an evolution chamber, or an embodied-load zone.

[ARCHIVE REGISTRY]

[Scope:current labyrinth route]

[Oldest accessible function:crossing-state containment]

[Named subject0]

[Recorded issuer0]

[System-wide purpose unverified]

[Current merge authority0]

Aylin read the scope twice before copying it. "This proves what this route did. It does not prove why every system route exists."

"Or who wanted it done," Jiang said.

[INTENT AUDIT]

[Protective intent unverified]

[Hostile intent unverified]

[Beneficiary unrecorded]

[Original issuer unrecorded]

[Function visible1]

The old-human voice ignored the missing issuer. "Containment means it preserved us."

"Containment also preserved the conflict," Aylin answered. "We have not reached motive."

The registry opened its first procedure.

[CROSSING-STATE CONTAINMENT]

[Trigger:one route produces incompatible body-memory states]

[Living bodies permitted simultaneously1]

[Active motor sources permitted simultaneously1]

[Divergent records isolated]

[Memory sources retained where available]

[Recombination deferred]

[Deletion required0]

The wording did not describe rescue. It described a traffic rule for a body.

One living body could carry one active motor source. Other body patterns, memory states, and behavioral interpretations went into separate indexed records until the route could resolve them, discard them, or use them.

The last option had changed over time.

[INTERFACE HISTORY]

[Accessible revisions3]

[Revision1:containment]

[Revision2:restoration]

[Revision3:growth offer]

[Underlying isolated-state index retained1]

The three labels opened side by side.

Containment described the state as a conflict that could not share one body.

Restoration described one isolated state as something a subject had lost.

Growth described the same indexed state as material a subject could accept, reject, exchange, or spend.

[PRESENTATION COMPARISON]

[Contained state->restoration candidate]

[Restoration candidate->evolution input]

[Behavioral boundary->tariff]

[Body mismatch->alternate form]

[Record identity change0]

[Presentation change1]

Jiang asked who had authorized the revisions and whether a contained subject had to accept the change before its separated states became payment options.

[REVISION AUTHORITY CHECK]

[Revision author unrecorded]

[Affected-subject authorization unrecorded]

[Advance notice unrecorded]

[Offer refusal available in current interface1]

[Earlier refusal availability unverified]

[Tariff collection without acceptance0 in current route]

The current interface allowed Jiang to refuse. The registry could not prove earlier subjects had received the same protection, or that whoever changed the labels possessed authority over what containment held.

Jiang looked toward the human arch that had offered Abyssal Warden.

"It did not invent the stronger body for me," he said. "It pulled one compatible-looking answer from states the route had already separated."

The registry returned a narrower result.

[ABYSSAL WARDEN TRACE]

[Source:isolated body-state assembly]

[Current Jiang body replacement required1]

[Relational constraints interfering3]

[Constraints relabeled:stabilization tariff]

[Offer declined1]

[State consumed0]

The alternate body had been real. Its price had also been real. Calling the price stabilization did not prove the body needed those three memories removed by any natural law. It proved this route’s assembly rejected the behaviors attached to them.

Aylin set the three copper chips from Lee, Jiang’s youngest brother, and her first permission question beneath the trace.

"The Warden was not stronger because it forgot us," she said. "It was easier for this route to stabilize because those refusals would no longer interrupt it."

[INFERENCE CHECK]

[Physical gains real1]

[Behavioral tariff real1]

[Tariff physically necessary unverified]

[Tariff route-selected1]

[Refusal retained1]

The six strength beams answered from the closed lower zone.

Muscle, bone, pressure, speed, recovery, and size appeared as six rows in the registry. Each borrowed load pointed to an indexed behavioral constraint as payment. Memory text could remain while behavioral force was removed.

[EMBODIED LOAD TRACE]

[Load categories6]

[Indexed behavior used as payment1]

[Readable memory may remain1]

[Behavioral force removed after payment1]

[Return0 | substitute0]

[Accepted intervals0]

The old containment procedure had kept divergent states apart. The growth interface had turned the contents of those partitions into inventory.

That did not make every upgrade false. Jiang’s Emperor Molt had changed his mass, keel, feet, circulation interval, appetite, route compatibility, and instinct delay without charging a memory or relationship. The registry separated that evolution from the restoration assembly.

[Relationship tariff0]

[Physical costs retained1]

[Current body continuity1]

Jiang’s larger feet remained under him. The registry could explain one dangerous branch without reducing every gain to theft.

"Containment became a market," the old voice said. "That still means I am what it stored."

"It means you occupy a stored branch," Jiang answered. "Classification comes next."

Aylin isolated the occupant record from the five memories. The voice kept access to all three pre-copy facts. Its empty post-copy interval remained visible beside current observation1.

[OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION INPUT]

[Post-copy continuous memory0/3]

[Current observation1]

[Living body0]

[Soul evidence0]

[Identity evidence0]

[Motor control0]

[Current choice evidence0]

The system offered four labels.

[Duplicate soul]

[Original self]

[Memory record]

[Alternate interpretation candidate]

The old voice selected Original self.

[OCCUPANT SELECTION]

[Selected:Original self]

[Required continuous memory1]

[Required soul evidence1]

[Required current choice1]

[Requirements met0/3]

[Classification accepted0]

Aylin selected Memory record for the control.

[CONTROL SELECTION]

[Selected:Memory record]

[Memory access compatible1]

[Independent interpretation output incompatible1]

[Current observation incompatible1]

[Classification accepted0]

The occupant was more active than a recording and less established than a person. Neither fact permitted the system to fill the missing evidence.

Jiang selected Alternate interpretation candidate.

The label fit the evidence without deciding what the branch might become.

The old voice struck the seam. The physical entrance remained silent, preserving the one-way archive map.

"Candidate for what?" it asked.

The registry opened the deferred procedure.

[DIVERGENCE RESOLUTION]

[Available historical methods:discard | preserve | recombine | externalize]

[Current method selected0]

[Affected living authorization0]

[Alternate branch authorization unverified]

[Recombination risk:active motor conflict]

[Containment failure records available1]

Jiang requested the oldest failure outcome.

The registry showed no body, place, date, or victim. It retained only the mechanical result.

[CONTAINMENT FAILURE]

[Living body targets1]

[Motor sources attempted2]

[Stable merger0]

[Memory loss uncounted]

[Survivor identity unresolved]

[Procedure terminated incomplete]

The first line of Chapter322 had not meant the chamber failed to contain Jiang. It meant an earlier isolated interpretation had crossed its partition and tried to resolve itself through a living body.

Proof3’s locked field brightened without completing.

[ABYSS PRESSURE PROOF3 CONDITION]

[Merge-pressure survival required1]

Aylin checked every open barrier. Spirit seam0.42m. Living entry0. Matter crossing0. Occupancy1. Physical-to-spirit observation1. Spirit-to-physical route0.

"The failure record is not happening now," she said.

The system agreed for less than a full second.

The Adverse Witness pressed its seven units of material against the divider. Its unsupported conclusion about the matching voice appeared beneath the occupant classification without either chamber granting release.

[Registry bridge status:forming]

Food stood1:51. Fuel remained0. Jiang remained Pressure60, Cold12/47, mobility12%, wound1.1cm, bleeding0, feather loss4, native hands0, and EP0.

The divider had not opened.

The unsupported sentence crossed it anyway.
