Chapter 1651: Chapter 1: The Mainland Is Filled with Monster’s Aura
Incident One:
Forum user who doesn’t plan to reveal their name:
Here’s the deal: today I confessed to a girl in my class I’ve had a crush on forever… I’ll skip the process. As per the kind of dog-blood plot everyone loves to see, I failed. The rival is a high-ranking official’s kid in our class, nickname [Tidal Spirit], multi-talented, rich, and can drive a Ferrari with one hand. My mood at the time was that 45-degree-angle gaze at the sky while trying to hold back tears.
But that’s not the main thing. I found out I can light fires!
I snapped my fingers, and then my fingertips burst into flames!
Is this a super power or what! It’s really a super power! I swear on my ancestors going back eighteen generations plus our entire household registration, I really just snapped my fingers, and my fingers started burning!
But there’s a key problem: once my fingers caught fire, they wouldn’t stop. Right now I think they’re already second-degree burned, and it’s still going, but I don’t feel any pain. It’s still going!!!
What am I supposed to do!! Urgent!! Waiting online for some internet big shots to answer!! Help—!!!
…
Incident Two:
Mother of A Qiang and A Zhen, just call me Mom:
Things shouldn’t be like this, they really shouldn’t be like this… I’m a full-time housewife. For my husband I gave up my job, for my kids I gave up taking care of myself, for my mother-in-law I learned how to play mahjong… None of that is the issue, but my husband actually cheated on me—with my bestie!
I’m so desperate, it feels like my life has reached the end of the line. I’m already over 170 jin now, I don’t have the courage to lose weight. Losing weight? Impossible to lose weight. It’s impossible in this lifetime… Fine, I’ve decided to leave this damned world, and take my kid away from this damned world!
Scumbag man, scumbag woman, just go die, both of you. Spend every single day of your lives drowning in regret!! I want you to think of this every time you’re doing the deed, let it become the shadows haunting you for the rest of your lives!!
But why is my kid flying?
Seriously, right now I’m holding my kid as we hang suspended in mid-air between two apartment buildings in our complex. I can’t get up, I can’t get down, and my kid is just staring at me like this… He’s only two years old!
Am I supposed to give him milk now? He looks kind of hungry?
Oh talented masters in my Moments, I know you must have a way to help me[smile][smile][smile].
…
Incident Three:
@City X Traffic Police Online:
Street racing! Street racing!!
There’s a half-transparent white AE86 tearing up the highway! It can cut corners through drainage ditches, and now it’s already left that McLaren “Black Samurai” in the dust! Black Samurai is still accelerating, it’s not giving up!
Black Samurai crashed into me, I flipped, my leg’s pinned! Black Samurai is still chasing, but it can’t even see the ghostly 86’s taillights!
Black Samurai still hasn’t given up, it’s not just a car fighting out there! Come on!!
Damn it!! I’m injured here, are you guys going to do your jobs or what!!
…
Incident N:
Oh! Shit! My house just got smashed by a robot!
For real, my neighbor’s house got smashed by another robot too! Tons of houses in our town are like this!
I suspect our world is being invaded by aliens!
I have a feeling the robot that crashed into my house might still be operable. I’m trying to open its cockpit right now!
Place your bets, do you think I can open this cockpit or not!
Double-tap and hit follow, and if this gets over ten thousand shares and comments, I’ll hop in today and pilot the Gundam!!
…
…
“Hey, that livestream with the robot, isn’t it happening where your cheap son goes to school? Ren Ziling?”
Lizi sat there with her legs crossed, tearing open a bag of chips. Before this she’d already eaten two buckets of popcorn, three pieces of fried chicken wings, plus two jin of fries and two 2.0-liter bottles of Happy Water… half full.
Before this, Lizi had been eating melon all day… together with the magazine’s freshly promoted editor-in-chief, the workplace iron lady Ren Ziling, who just stepped onto the peak of her career.
It’s not just the two of them hiding in the office to watch the drama—the entire staff of the magazine is eating melon right now. They feel like they could spend the whole day doing nothing but spectating!
Ren Ziling suddenly sprang to her feet. “Lizi, grab your gear! We’re going to do an interview!”
Lizi blinked, looked at the chips she’d just ripped open, and suddenly shivered. “Sister Ren, shouldn’t you be worrying about that cheap son of yours right now?”
She raced against the clock, grabbing a handful of chips and stuffing them into her mouth while she talked.
Ren Ziling was already tidying up the desk as she spoke quickly: “I already called my good boy! He said he’s fine. The local Britannia Government is dealing with it now, classes are suspended, and he’s holed up in the dorm for the moment, so he’s pretty safe… Stop yapping, we’re going out for an interview! I can’t hold back my reporter Soul anymore!”
You really have to feel for Editor-in-Chief Ren. Ever since she got promoted to boss, she spends most of her time stuck in the office signing documents.
“Oh, oh?” Lizi’s eyes rolled, and she suddenly said, “But where are we going to interview? It’s calm as can be around here, law and order is great. Forget online weird incidents, there aren’t even any big ordinary cases outside. There were a few cases of middle schoolers fighting today, want to go cover those?”
“Where’s the closest weird incident to us?”
“Closest… KL District. Driving there would take at least three hours, and you’ve got the head office meeting tomorrow, you won’t make it.” Lizi shrugged.
Mammy Ren could only sit back down, dead inside, and groaned, “Why is it that we don’t get any weird incidents here?”
Lizi narrowed her eyes and showed a grin.
—We do, I’m right in front of you. I just can’t use my ability right now, or I’d scare you to death!
“Let’s keep eating melon…” Mammy Ren shook her head, looked at the computer screen, then reached over to feel around, and immediately exploded: “Lizi, you bastard, you even finished my sunflower seeds? You’re fired!!”
Eating melons, eating melons.
The reason they could just keep calmly “eat melons” these past few days is… this place really is ridiculously peaceful, so peaceful it feels like another world altogether, so they can sit here in peace and gossip.
Because the place they live in really is that peaceful.
…
…
For the past three days, not only had the town’s school suspended classes, most of the shops had also closed. Basically, aside from essential departments and institutions that still had to run, it was like everyone had suddenly gotten a special vacation.
The town’s residents, even the academy students… and the few tourists from other regions or abroad who had come to this seaside town for holiday, had all received a notice from the Britannia Government.
It was about investigating the incident that happened in the town three days ago.
And the institution in charge of this investigation was a department nobody had ever heard of before… they called themselves: the Knight Agency.
“I don’t know what exactly happened, it felt like I just fell asleep, like I entered some magical place… was that an out‑of‑body experience? I felt like I was having an out‑of‑body experience at the time, I saw my own body, then got sucked up into the night sky and seemed to be circling over the town… after that, I don’t know what happened. When I came back to my senses, my house had already been smashed by those huge machines! The damn thing is, I didn’t buy insurance! Does this count as a Heavenly Calamity? Is the government going to compensate us or not?”
“Alright… next.”
Ignoring this townsman’s shouting and ranting, the Investigator waved his hand, signaling his subordinate to “politely escort” the old man out of the room.
Then the Investigator slumped back in his chair with a face full of exhaustion, reached out to pick up the coffee cup on the table, intending to take a sip… but his stomach quickly started churning.
He had no choice but to set the cup down; over the last two or three days he had drunk far too many of these stimulants, and his body was starting to protest.
“Forget it, let’s take a break first!” The Investigator instructed the subordinate who was about to bring the next person in.
This wasn’t work meant for humans… In just three short days, from receiving the notice, getting dispatched, then starting to interrogate the whole town—this Investigator hadn’t closed his eyes for nearly fifty hours, yet the progress on interviewing town residents was probably not even halfway.
Of course, he clearly wasn’t the only Investigator assigned to this case, but when you’re facing an entire town’s population… and then think about the paperwork afterwards, the workload was simply hopeless.
“Mr. Gareth has arrived,” the subordinate suddenly said.
The Investigator immediately rubbed his head in pain… He was directly under the Knight Agency, so naturally Mr. Gareth was his immediate superior. “What’s he here for?”
“Seems to be to deal with those corpses found by the sea.”
That was just a vague way of putting it; to be precise, it should be… a huge number!
“Let the next one in!” The Investigator waved his hand. Since his direct superior was here, even if Gareth hadn’t asked about their progress, he didn’t dare let things slow down.
The Investigator forced himself to endure the discomfort in his stomach, picked up the cup again, drained the coffee, then frowned as he looked over the file on the next person to be questioned.
Claudia, female, 21, Student of Saint Andrew’s Academy…
…
Part of the town’s shoreline had been turned into a military Forbidden Area, with large numbers of soldiers stationed along the coastal road, blocking all unrelated personnel from entering.
A military helicopter dropped off Knight Gareth, the current head of the Knight Agency, at the site.
He’d barely stepped out of the helicopter when Mr. Gareth caught a faint smell of corpses hanging in the Air… Mr. Gareth instinctively took out a handkerchief and covered his nose.
“Where’s Dagonet?” Mr. Gareth asked the secretary accompanying him.
“Dagonet is up ahead, where the bodies are being stored.”
Mr. Gareth nodded and walked quickly. In just a moment he reached a stretch of beach where rows of tents had been set up—inside each of these military tents were those mysteriously dead corpses.
Gareth lifted the flap of one tent and stepped inside; Jester Dagonet was standing there, lost in thought about something.
“Dagonet!”
“Mm.” Mr. Clown answered casually, still staring at the body lying at his feet.
Gareth frowned in puzzlement. “Did you find something?”
“This man, if I’m not mistaken, seems to be called Caron…” Dagonet said, uncharacteristically serious. “One of the high Commanders of the Black Religious Congregation. According to intel, he’s someone who has undergone special enhancement and modification. I’ve examined his corpse: no external wounds, not poisoned, just suddenly lost his Life and died… They found this guy on a street in the town; when he was discovered he was still wearing some kind of gear similar to Dragonriding Armor.”
“On the way here I got a report that in the nearby waters they found the wreck of a special submarine…”
“I dove down to take a look. It should have sunk only in the last few days.” Dagonet shook his head. “It ought to be another piece of Black Religious Congregation hardware… same goes for these bodies.”
There was so much information wrapped up in all this that Gareth couldn’t extract any useful conclusion from the fog for the moment.
Dagonet suddenly remembered something and asked, “It’s already been three days since the incident. By rights you should’ve come as soon as it happened. Why are you this late?”
Gareth frowned. “The mainland has changed… Seems like ever since this thing happened three days ago, there’s been a massive surge of supernatural incidents worldwide, one bizarre case after another… Even if each one is minor on its own, the fact that they’re all erupting at once has governments everywhere scrambling… Among them, Huaxia Country in the east is particularly bad off, apparently the worst-hit area for Transcendent events. In Huaxia Country, of the Transcendent incidents we actually know about, the number has already exceeded nine hundred… As for the ones we don’t know, Lord knows how many there really are.”
“So?” Dagonet seemed to have guessed something.
Mr. Gareth said gravely, “Her Majesty the Queen is currently in talks with the United Nations of the Oth Continent… I’m afraid there’s going to be a high‑level summit of multiple countries in the short term…”
“Oh‑ho?” Mr. Clown’s mouth curled into a playful smile. “Looks like this world that’s been covered up for so long is finally going to have its other veil torn off.”
Mr. Gareth shot Dagonet a glare, deeply displeased with this guy’s tendency to stir the pot… The Knight Agency’s chief was nursing a headache as he said, “Back when the Fog Capital riot happened, we barely managed to get people from The Magician Association to step in and erase most people’s memories, but the residual effects still haven’t been wiped out. Among the populace, all kinds of Legends are still spreading… This time, this time I’m afraid we really can’t do anything about it.”
Dagonet blinked. “So that means you’ve already approached The Magician Association?”
“Of course we have! How could we not?” Mr. Gareth shook his head. “And it’s not just us—many other powers are looking for them too… But do you know what The Magician Association’s reply was?”
“What?”
Mr. Gareth’s expression turned odd. “They said… ‘What’s it got to do with us?’ They’ve collectively moved into the Unhuman Domain. Anything in the present world—they’re doing us a favor if they help, but if they don’t, that’s only proper!”
“Hahahahaha!!”
Only Mr. Clown’s loud laughter echoed inside the tent.
