Tower of Endless: Death Granted Entry
Chapter 265 Recruitment List
Markala watched over the battlefield from the rocky sides of the mountains, moving back and forth, finding the right moment to save whoever he could save.
There were soldiers tasked with bringing him more pikes periodically; thus, he never ran out of them till this moment.
While he was protecting a newly ascending soldier on their side, others rushed to protect him.
"Hmmm?" He noticed another indicator, but not on one of those on his side.
Without much thought.
He planted his lead foot and arched backwards, his spine bending with the terrifying, fluid tension of a drawn longbow.
When the tension loosened, his entire upper body coiled forward, releasing the pike upwards.
Soon, it began descending at a blinding speed—
Stab~
Into the ascending soldier’s neck, diagonally, with the tip exiting through his side.
Instantly, the indicator dimmed and slowly disappeared.
Moments later, another had the indicator over his head. This time, before Markala could take action, another flashed before his eyes, taking his head.
Emrys, Talia’s knight and informant.
His helmet covered his head perfectly, yet his striking clean white armor stood out among all others.
The helmet had a standard shape that allowed a T-shaped gap for his eyes, nose and mouth. He was also one of the most lethal on the battlefield, though he was never given a special role by Moon.
For some reason, Moon still found him unsettling.
Yet, among everyone on the battlefield excluding Moon, Emrys might have had the second highest kill count till now, right after the mad humanoid chicken.
Fisher had long given up chasing after Moon, but his spot on the front line was still uninterrupted.
Within a two-meter radius around him, no one was approaching.
His swings were wide and brutal, rapid and heavy.
Everything about him spoke volumes about the nature of his race, the lust for fighting and blood they had.
Fisher didn’t simply attack with his two cleavers; his beak ripped necks, his long feet that had the structure to hold onto things found soldiers and dragged them into the bloodied sand where he stood before his cleaver finished the job.
As an ambassador of his race, one that never received any form of combat training or learned the ways of Combat Arts, his pure combat instinct was greater than most of those who wasted their lives training every day. Astonishing to look at and frightening to his enemies alike.
Something that made Moon, whenever his eyes fell back on his troops, admire the creature, one he had no business meeting or even hearing of till a few months ago.
Markala, Raiju and Dorbish were also following their roles perfectly, making him feel at ease.
Moon was about to take another leap, one that would bring him further away from them, and soon, he wouldn’t be able to see them again.
He also saw Emrys. Moon couldn’t help frowning.
’That bastard is holding back.’ It was the first and only thought Moon had about him and his performance.
Moon felt that he wasn’t giving this his full effort, even when he was at the top of the lethality scale among his people.
He still felt like he was hiding something, which made Moon cling harder to his previous assumptions regarding the man who looked nothing but unsettling to him.
Moon held onto one of the rocky sides of the mountains, catching his breath while taking one last look.
It was time to bring the battlefield to the next stage of his plan.
In the Control Centre, the discussions died out.
Everly was standing with a book in her hands, noting things she was seeing, almost everything she was seeing.
The Youth Council ran under the Nine Paragons, who were promising youths from the middle floors.
They worked on gathering and building factions of the talents they could gather and assign them to their camps.
Everly was an ambassador of one of the nine.
There were a few rules they had to follow when recruiting.
Like excluding all of those of or affiliated with the higher floors. They would never recruit them, and they wouldn’t join them either.
They also couldn’t recruit sentient beasts or beastmen; only humans could join, and beasts only if under a member’s authority and supervision.
On her book, the first name she noted was none other than Moon himself.
She wrote everything she was seeing...
Almost all of his abilities and talents, his strategic plan as well as his execution.
She also noted down his Echo situation as it was noted by Ed and Lucen... The possibility of him having a normal Echo and the chance he would stay without any capabilities to use Combat Arts.
She also noted down the roles of Fisher and Raiju; though they couldn’t be recruited, she aimed to harvest the entire package with Moon.
Following Moon and the package in her imagination was Markala.
A man too valuable, yet once again from a negligible background, he would benefit from affiliating himself with the Youth Council as well as benefit the faction he would be joining.
Unsurprisingly, he was followed by Dorbish.
The quick-witted defender who had started the whole ’defend the ascending soldiers’ approach of the Defence Faction was following.
He was the one who took the most hits, defended the most and hurt the least.
This was the real performance she had waited for long days here, residing only to see it come alive.
It was her first time witnessing a real battlefield, a trial at that.
She flipped the page; another criterion came to present itself before her.
Both Lexie and Nola were listed on the production page, thanks to their hard work on the potions. They had done more than expected with material that wasn’t up to the optimal standards.
She wanted to list the twins from the Assault Facility, but they were under another affiliation.
Still, she returned to the previous page and listed another name.
Colten, as well as Abshi.
The duo were performing in perfect sync on the battlefield. It wasn’t awe-inspiring or even enticing as leadership.
Yet, they were holding perfect battle formation with the other two knights.
They were worth considering as well.
Lastly, there was someone whom she never thought she would see in action.
Alma.
The Order of Assassins was one of the hidden forces that never took action in public. Having her on the screen with everyone else was a rare occasion.
Even though she wasn’t part of the ongoing battle entirely.
Right now, she was on top of one side of the city walls, apparently hiding, or maybe waiting.
It was unclear.
Everly squinted her red eyes and placed her hand over her pink lips, thinking.
There was one she was unsure of...
Gustav... He seemed old; she wasn’t sure if he would fit, but he was a man talented in both leading and logistics.
Something so rare to see among the youth.
"Mister Yutian, may I know how old Gustav is?" She turned to the man she could ask.
Yutian turned to her, surprised for a moment, before he laughed.
"Are you considering him as well?" He laughed some more, in a good mood as he was. "Gustav is around 45 years old; if you want him, he won’t stay with you for long."
Everly nodded. "Thank you," she said, grateful for the open answer she had received for once in this room.
She turned around to go back to her seat, taking a look at the joy in Yutian’s eyes and the frustration in Hugh’s.
The unconcerned, even bored gaze of Lazzaro.
She didn’t understand what was truly happening on the Fable side.
The Strand side was performing splendidly; that was a fact, but the Fable side, till this moment, didn’t have a single noteworthy individual to list down in her notes.
It shouldn’t have been that bad... Or so she thought.
But Moon didn’t let her sit down and relax for a moment, for by that moment, Moon broke through the last line of the Fable troops, running into the gap between them and the stationed ascenders.
