Chapter 457: I’m From the Department of Finance

“Whistles and noises are prohibited outside the examination hall during the college entrance exam! This is common sense! Don’t you know that? Perhaps you all did it on purpose? Why? Are you afraid of being shamed if Chi Xuanzi solves the question too fast?” Tan Mo burst out.

“Since you wish to have a competition, then please respect your opponents! Also, please behave yourselves! Imagine what others would think about Hua University’s students if they saw your conduct! Don’t start a challenge if you are afraid of losing! If you’re up for the match, then please be upright! Stop with all of your unsightly underhanded tactics already!”

“Who said that we’ll lose? It was your people who couldn’t accept losing! You wouldn’t admit defeat when you clearly couldn’t solve the question! Upon learning your university was about to lose, they sent you here to recriminate us!” a male student from the Department of Mathematics at Hua University bellowed.

“If you meant what you said, quit interrupting Chi Xuanzi’s train of thoughts verbally and affecting her mentally,” Tan Mo chided.

Wei Haosong sneered, “I believe most of the Hua University’s students are well-behaved. Perhaps this group is the black sheep of their university. These people really are a disgrace to their campus. The ones in the classroom disregarded sportsmanship and resorted to verbal attacks. Furthermore, the ones outside shoved Tan Mo aside, stomped on her foot, and even dared to denounce her for retracting her leg.”

“Du Zeyang, did you and Chi Xuanzi talk with each other when the Hua University’s students were solving the question?” Tan Mo asked.

“No,” Du Zeyang replied with a sullen look. “We remained silent the whole time when they were solving the questions. Not only did we not disrupt them with mockery or use harsh words to cause harm to Chi Xuanzi’s mental health, but, hell, we also didn’t even speak with each other at all.”

Tan Mo nodded and piped up, “We, the students of Beijing University, honored this match and our opponents from Hua University! Although we observed fair play, it never once crossed our minds that you would stoop to using dirty tricks!”

“What did you mean by that? We–” a woman from Hua University was interrupted by the young man beside her, who let out a cough before she could finish her sentence.

Right then, she remained taciturn.

Tan Mo taunted, “Why? Don’t you got the guts to make a promise?”

After speaking, Tan Mo walked toward Chi Xuanzi.

At that time, Chi Xuanzi was standing on the podium before the blackboard.

A male student from Hua University grumbled, “What are you going there for? Don’t tell me you’re planning to cheat. Is that what you’re doing? Telling Chi Xuanzi the answer?”

Without hesitation, Tan Mo scoffed, “What were you saying? Me, a finance major, telling a student majoring in mathematics the solution? Is that your concern?”

Every student sitting in the classroom cackled in unison.

At once, the face of the young man who expressed his skepticism became flushed.

Ignoring him, Tan Mo headed straight in Chi Xuanzi’s direction. Standing by the latter’s side, the former rested her hand on her shoulder and transmitted some of her healing magic into her body.

As Mr. Zhu mentioned before, questions of that level wouldn’t faze Chi Xuanzi and Du Zeyang even a bit under normal circumstances.

Since they were not in their best mental state, it had led to the current situation.

At first, Tan Mo was baffled at how easily their frames of mind were worsened just because onlookers were encircling them.

After she accessed the situation, she realized the two students from Hua University had been provoking Chi Xuanzi.

With a tumultuous crowd breaking out beside her, even if Chi Xuanzi could stay focused in the beginning, it would not be long before her mind became distracted.

At that moment, Tan Mo used her healing magic to help Chi Xuanzi keep herself together and turn a deaf ear to the negative remarks.

Chi Xuanzi felt like there was a cooling sensation sweeping through her head.

Instantly, the whirl in her head disappeared into thin air. Her mind had never been in such an excellent condition before. It was even better than when she was taking her college entrance exam.

Noticing the changes in Chi Xuanzi’s expression, Tan Mo said, “Don’t feel pressured. I’ve heard from the lecturers and professors about your proficiency level. Questions like this should be pretty easy for you. Stay focused, okay?”

After Tan Mo spoke, she returned to where the spectators from Beijing University stood.

The crowd heard every word Tan Mo enunciated vividly.

They also saw that she did not try to whisper in Chi Xuanzi’s ear.

Within such a short timeframe, Tan Mo couldn’t have possibly divulged the solution to Chi Xuanzi even if she knew it.

With her mind in the best possible condition, Chi Xuanzi got right back on track and increased the momentum of her calculating speed exponentially.

From the calculation to the steps elaboration, there was no hiccup at all—the whole process was smooth like butter.

It was as if the struggling girl earlier was an entirely different person.

The Beijing University group heaved a sigh of relief at the sight of it.

“This is the usual Chi Xuanzi.” Du Zeyang sighed, feeling like a weight off his mind.

“What’s the name of the two from Hua University?” Tan Mo asked as she did not know them.

“The guy’s name is Peng Jiayou, a junior-year student at Hua University’s Department of Mathematics. The girl’s called Pang Xinlu. Like the former, she’s also a junior-year student from the same major at Hua University,” Du Zeyang murmured.

Seeing that Chi Xuanzi had recovered from her distraction, Peng Jiayou knew she could solve the problem. He asked, “Did Tan Mo really not tell her the solution?”

Tan Mo jeered, “I’m from the Department of Finance.”

Immediately after, a wave of guffaws filled the entire classroom.

“What’s with the folks from Hua University? Why do they keep picking on Tan Mo?”

“I know, right? Are they suggesting that a finance major is taking a deep dive into advanced mathematics like we do?”

“To think that they’re afraid of a finance major teaching a mathematics major how to solve a mathematical problem. This is beyond pathetic. Are they suffering from a fear of failure or something?”

At that, Professor Jiao of Hua University’s Department of Mathematics shot Peng Jiayou a glare.

The latter lowered his head promptly and zipped his lips.

Upon seeing that, Du Zeyang asked, “What was Professor Jiao doing when Peng Jiayou and Pang Xinlu were running their mouths and interrupted us earlier? He didn’t even bother to stop them. Now, he’s putting on act. What a hypocrite.”

After Chi Xuanzi finished writing the answer to the solution, she put the chalk aside and let out a deep sigh. “I’m done.”

With that, she moved from her position to allow the people from Hua University to check if she got the answer correctly.

Even though they were being despicable during the competition, they would not stoop so low as to lie about the true answer.

Besides, one could simply look up the question on the Internet and ask netizens to help provide the correct answer or prove the legitimacy of Hua University’s solution.

Even the likes of the Hua University group would not do something that might make them notorious.

With a dark look on his face, Peng Jiayou nodded. “That’s the correct answer.”

A smile finally appeared on Chi Xuanzi’s face. She walked back to her group and said, “I was so close to bringing shame to our university.”

Tan Mo shook her head and comforted her. “No. The Hua University representatives are the shameless ones. They sunk to exhibiting unethical behaviors to disturb you. Any sane person could tell the ones who should be ashamed of themselves.”

“That’s right.” Professor Yao bowed his head. “You people did a great job. You’ve successfully carried yourselves as people worthy of being one of us. This is the kind of character we’re looking for here at Beijing University.”

Chi Xuanzi stopped blaming herself and felt peace in her heart after hearing the affirmation from Professor Yao.

“Speaking of which, which one is Lin Jingyuan?” Tan Mo mumbled.

At the mention of that name, Du Zeyang and Chi Xuanzi had complicated expressions on their faces, looking like they were upset about something. On the other hand, Professor Yao and Mr. Zhu remained expressionless.
