Chapter 98 The Witches revelation
Chapter 98: Chapter 98 The Witches revelation
Running through the fields to reach the assembly, they caught someone sneaking around with candles in his hands—not just any candles, but red ones. He was also carrying chalk, and they could see him drawing something on the ground with it.
"Isn’t that a witch?" Killian asked, but Eugene ignored him, rolling his eyes and preparing to continue on his way. Killian, however, didn’t walk further—he just let Eugene go on.
Realizing that Killian wasn’t following anymore, Eugene groaned in frustration. "Dude, what is your problem? Aren’t you going to follow me and fix this mess you caused?"
At that exact moment, Killian didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. He looked at the sky for a moment and shook his head. "I don’t believe for a moment that you think I, Killian, would actually be the reason for Ashton’s disappearance. But I won’t blame you—I can’t blame you for that. But I wouldn’t go right there. I can see it’s Mr. Oliver, and from what he’s doing and the fact that he’s not at the assembly, he’s trying to conjure something. Why go there when we can get one so easily out here? Fine, go on if you want to be exposed. But please, I’m begging you—don’t involve me when your plan fails. And once again, don’t blame me if it doesn’t move how you thought it would."
That was Killian’s final straw of hearing those irritating words. He left Eugene moping and walked over to the field, tiptoeing so he wouldn’t be heard.
Getting closer, Mr. Oliver kept arranging the candles, now done drawing a circle over the ground. He looked at the line of candles, now ready to be lit, and was about to begin his ritual when he felt a movement behind him. He froze.
Looking around, he saw Killian staring at him with a gaze that was hard to read. In his eyes weren’t surprise or fear, but something else—something in-between those emerald depths.
"Looking for something?" Oliver asked, praying that Killian wouldn’t know what he was doing, even though it sounded dumb. He just wanted him to ask what he wanted to ask and move on with his life.
"Don’t be scared, Mr. Oliver," Killian said smoothly. "I won’t expose your secret—I have no gain in doing such. I just want a favor from you. I can see that you’re a witch, which is something nice. So maybe you can pause your ritual—or whatever that thing on the ground is—and help me find my little kitten."
Oliver looked at him with shock. He had actually stopped him to help look for a kitten? Was he for real? How dare he disregard him that way?
"Chill, man," Killian clarified. "I don’t mean an actual kitten. I’m talking about Ashton Lane. Please, he’s my baby boy—that’s what I call him, my love. Please help me find him."
He passed the bloodied fabric to Oliver, and the man’s face tensed immediately.
Unexpectedly, Eugene also decided not to go further to the assembly to call Rose and instead let Mr. Oliver handle it. But Oliver was shocked at the fabric in his hands as he began to think to himself. The pureblood—what happened to him? He couldn’t be dead, right? That was the worst-case scenario. But it was impossible—the thing that could kill a pureblood didn’t exist. Whoever had done this had fully awakened the pureblood essence, meaning his presence was now fatal to evil forces. Anywhere he stood, he could obliterate any darkness. He was now officially immortal.
It seemed the two alphas before him didn’t know.
"Are you too looking for Ashton?" Oliver asked, pointing at Eugene, who nodded. His face made no expression; it was completely dead and dry.
"Okay," Oliver continued. "I am also looking for Lamia because he’s been taken out from this school premises, and I can’t sense him anywhere."
Hearing the word "sense," Eugene’s eyes narrowed. "Did you—"
Immediately, Oliver stopped to correct him. "I didn’t mark him. It’s just that he’s important to me, so I kind of put a spell on him that made me know his whereabouts. But suddenly, it wasn’t working anymore."
Eugene wasn’t convinced it was just that. There was something bigger here, something he suspected. Killian, who didn’t give a fuck about Lamia at that moment, just looked at Oliver impatiently.
"Stop with the chit-chat and find someone, would you?" Killian snapped. "This is getting annoying and wasting too much time."
Eugene agreed, nodding his head.
Then Oliver went on his knees and began to look up at the sky before stretching his hands. With a sudden wave of air that brushed through the two alphas’ skin, causing goosebumps immediately, it felt so unnatural—as if something was passing through the air.
"I just realized that witches make me uncomfortable," Killian muttered. But Eugene, who heard him, ignored it. Killian groaned and stopped talking. If Eugene was going to keep malice, that was his concern—it didn’t concern Killian anyway.
Their eyes went wide when the candles ignited, beginning to rise higher and higher as weird words kept coming from Oliver’s mouth. It sounded Greek but also Latin. "Phasmotus..." That was the only word Killian could grasp.
The fabric that was placed neatly inside the circle began to burn immediately, and the whole ground shook mightily, a heavy daze pushing the two alphas out of the way. Their eyes went weak, their heads growing heavy and dizzy. In the process, they realized they could see images of someone. Their eyes widened as they noticed Noah with Lysander, the devil son, in a cave filled with deadly-looking monsters—and Lamia in their midst.
Eugene’s eyes bulged. "No! I have to stop them! It can’t happen—nothing would happen to Ashton!"
He surged forward, his body trembling with a desperate need to reach Noah. But before he could take more than a step, Oliver’s voice cut through the air like a blade.
"Wait! If you go rushing in blindly, you’ll get yourself killed—and him too!" Oliver’s face was pale, his hands still raised as the flames of the candles danced higher. "The vision is showing me where they are, but it’s not a place you can just walk into. It’s protected by dark magic—old magic. The devil son must have been preparing for this for a long time."
Killian grabbed Eugene’s arm, holding him back. "He’s right. We need a plan. We can’t just charge in there like idiots."
Eugene’s eyes were wild, his chest heaving. "I don’t care about a plan! That’s Ashton down there! My baby is in danger!"
"And if you die trying to save him, what good does that do?" Oliver snapped, his voice sharp. He lowered his hands, the candles flickering before settling into a steady glow. "I can help you. I know the way—I can guide you. But you have to trust me."
Killian stared at the teacher, his jaw tight. "Why should we trust you? You’ve been sneaking around, hiding your abilities. For all we know, you could be working with him."
Oliver let out a bitter laugh. "Working with Lysander? No. I’ve been trying to protect Ashton—and Lamia—from exactly this kind of threat. The devil son is a danger to everyone, including me. If I could stop him, I would have done it a long time ago." He paused, his eyes darkening. "But there are forces at play here that are bigger than any of us. The blood moon tonight—the gates—the monsters in the forest—it’s all connected. And Ashton Lane is the key. The pureblood in him is the only one who can stop it."
Eugene stopped struggling, his eyes narrowing. "What do you mean, the key?"
Oliver looked at him, his expression unreadable. "The pureblood lineage is ancient—older than any of the kingdoms. They’re not just powerful; they’re necessary. Without them, the balance between light and dark falls apart. Lysander wants to use Ashton to tilt that balance in his favor. If he succeeds, everything falls."
Killian’s face paled. "So we need to stop him."
"Yes," Oliver agreed. "And to do that, you need to get to Ashton before Lysander completes whatever ritual he’s planning. I can open a path for you—but you have to be ready for what you’ll face. The cave is filled with creatures that have been waiting for centuries to be unleashed."
Eugene stepped forward, his voice hard and determined. "I don’t care what’s waiting for me. I’m going to get Ashton out of there, no matter what it takes."
Oliver nodded solemnly, then turned back to the circle. The candles began to glow brighter, and the ground started to tremble again. "I’ll open the path. But once you’re through, I won’t be able to help you anymore. You’ll be on your own." He wasn’t being honest, he was going to rescue them on his own way and won’t let them ruin his plan. So he wasn’t going through the plan like they agreed. They were doing this with emotions and it will ruin his whole plan.
