Chapter 156 Race to save the pureblood
Chapter 156: Chapter 156 Race to save the pureblood
Lysander turned around, about to take a step away, when Lucifer’s voice drifted through the hall once again.
"Not so fast, son. Do you really want to leave me that quickly?"
The taunting tone was exactly like his usual voice, and it was irritating enough that Lysander’s hand slowly curled into a tight fist.
"You know..." Lucifer continued, his voice suddenly taking on that chilling amusement he always seemed to possess. "There is a certain scent I can’t help but perceive all over you. Can’t help but wonder what that could be."
Lysander didn’t react. Instead, his eyes carried a hollow disinterest that was somehow more frightening than anger.
Several demons watching from the sides stiffened. They weren’t used to seeing Lysander look at Lucifer that way. Most demons feared Lucifer. Lysander simply looked bored.
"That’s not your business," Lysander finally replied. "Who I engage with, who I sleep with, and who I choose to have flings with isn’t your concern. So can we stop this pathetic attempt at you trying to act like a cool father?"
His eyes narrowed. "I don’t know if anyone has told you this before, Lucifer, but you suck at being a father."
The remark was so sharp that even Lucifer visibly flinched for a fraction of a second.
The hall went silent.
Lysander didn’t spare him another glance. Instead, he looked toward Oliver and stretched out his hand.
"Where are they?"
Oliver blinked.
"Damon and the person I’m trying to find. Where are they?"
The question hung heavily in the air. Marak, who had been standing nearby, couldn’t help but stare between the two of them. The tension between father and son was becoming almost unbearable.
Lucifer, however, only smiled. "Look at my collection of mirrors." He gestured toward the hundreds of magical mirrors surrounding the enormous hall. "No matter what type of magic has been used, nothing can completely block me from seeing what I want to see."
Lysander didn’t know what Lucifer was trying to point out, and honestly, he didn’t care. He turned around and began walking away.
But once again, just as he was about to leave, a scream tore through the hall.
It wasn’t a normal scream. Lysander recognized the voice immediately.
His feet stopped. Slowly, he turned around.
Lucifer was grinning. "See who I found, son."
Lysander’s expression darkened.
Lucifer leaned forward slightly on his throne. "He told me something rather interesting. Apparently, you’re trying to rescue a Pureblood. I also heard that you demanded that you go straight to the Imperial Palace to attack the Emperor with my army."
Lysander’s eyes narrowed.
"So I did a little research." Lucifer’s grin widened. "And I realized that the person you’re looking for is Ashton Lane."
The atmosphere changed instantly.
"And that’s not even the most interesting part." Lucifer’s eyes gleamed with something dangerous. "I discovered that my dear son has been involved with him for the past month."
A sinister smile stretched across his face. "Isn’t that fun?"
Lucifer suddenly threw his head back and laughed. The sound was devastating. His laughter shook the massive hall, making the ground beneath their feet tremble. Several demons lowered their heads instinctively, already knowing what that laughter meant.
Lucifer was about to do something terrible.
Marak couldn’t believe what he was hearing. He didn’t even want to believe it. But when he looked at Lysander, the demon prince wasn’t denying anything.
Lucifer’s laughter slowly faded. "And then I dug a little deeper." His gaze fixed on Lysander. "Lo and behold..."
His smile became almost monstrous. "The two of you are bonded."
The revelation exploded through Hell.
Demons gasped. Some snarled. Others immediately began whispering among themselves, their voices filled with anger and disbelief.
A demon prince. The son of Lucifer. Bonded to a Pureblood.
The realization spread through the hall like wildfire.
Lucifer slowly rose from his throne. "You left your race," he said, his voice becoming darker, "and went to a Pureblood." His eyes burned. "Someone responsible for the wiping out of thousands of demons all those years ago."
The amusement was gone. The real Lucifer was beginning to emerge. His expression twisted with fury, and the air itself seemed to become heavier.
Lysander didn’t move.
"Then why do you want me to bring him here if you’re so afraid of him?" His voice was cold. "What exactly is your reason?"
Lucifer stepped down from the obsidian throne. "Because I want to cage him." He lifted one hand. "Contain him." His smile returned. "And eventually..."
His eyes darkened. "Kill him."
Something changed in Lysander’s eyes.
He turned around instantly, but before he could take another step, several enormous creatures appeared between him and the exit. They blocked his path.
"Sorry, son," Lucifer said casually. "But you’re not leaving here anytime soon."
Lysander’s gaze became murderous.
"My people are going to the Empire. They’ll play with your mate. Perhaps they’ll kill him." Lucifer’s smile widened. "Or they’ll bring him here so we can have a little fun with him."
His eyes shifted toward Oliver. "And your little Phoenix witch?"
Oliver’s body stiffened.
"I’ll destroy him the same way I’ve gutted witches in the past." Lucifer’s voice dropped into something almost demonic. "And that will be the end of the Pureblood era."
The creatures moved.
But before they could take another step, Lysander’s hands shot upward. A violent, dark tendril erupted from his palm. It moved faster than the eye could follow.
One creature’s head exploded. Then another. Then another.
Within seconds, every demon blocking his path had been destroyed. Their bodies collapsed into piles of charred flesh and dust.
Silence fell.
Lysander stood among the remains with a maddening grin. "Now I see something wrong, Father." His voice was almost playful. "Lucifer, the great King and Lord of Hell..."
He slowly tilted his head. "...is afraid."
The demons around them went still.
Lysander took one step forward. "Why are you afraid?"
No one spoke.
"Because apart from you, the entire demon race can be killed." His smile disappeared. "But we all know you’re different."
Lysander’s eyes sharpened. "You’re the only one who was promised immortality. The only one who cannot simply be put down." He paused. "So what exactly is the problem?"
Lucifer’s expression hardened. "What are you talking about?"
"Unless..." Lysander’s voice became quieter.
The demons around him leaned closer despite themselves.
"Unless there’s something you’re not telling us."
One of the demons who had screamed earlier was now on the floor, his head bowed. His body was covered in unimaginable scars, and he was trembling violently. No one paid him much attention. They were too focused on Lysander.
What was he about to say? Where was he going with this?
Lysander’s grin returned. "So, Lucifer..." He stared directly at his father. "The King of Hell."
He took another step. "The weapon of the Pureblood..." His eyes narrowed. "The Heavenly Sword could kill you, couldn’t it?"
A collective gasp swept through Hell.
The demons immediately began whispering among themselves. The Heavenly Sword. The weapon capable of harming beings that should never be harmed.
Some demons exchanged greedy glances. If Lucifer had a weakness... If there truly was something capable of killing him... Then perhaps this was the opportunity they had been waiting for. Perhaps the throne of Hell could finally belong to someone else.
Lucifer suddenly laughed. "You’re bluffing." His laughter grew louder. "Nothing can kill me. Nothing in this world can."
He spread his arms. "And as you said, I am the only creature, apart from those in Heaven, who can live forever without being killed." His laughter echoed through the hall. "Deal with that fact."
Lysander didn’t argue. He simply stared at him. "Then we shall see."
His eyes shifted toward Marak. "Remember your words."
Marak immediately understood what he meant. Lysander was warning him. Protect Oliver. Make sure Lucifer didn’t touch him.
Because despite the deal, Lysander wasn’t leaving Oliver in Hell forever. He would come back. He just needed to get Noah back first.
That was the only thing occupying his mind now.
Noah Evernight. His mate. His Pureblood.
The person Lucifer was already preparing to hunt.
Lysander turned toward Marak one final time.
Marak’s expression was miserable. "I’m tired of you dragging me into your schemes." He lowered his voice. "You know Lucifer will destroy me if he discovers I’m helping you. I benefit far too much from serving him to have that taken away."
Lysander stared at him for a moment. Then he gave him a small, knowing smile. "If you can save him..."
He paused. "...perhaps a certain Alpha could be yours."
Marak’s eyes widened.
Lysander didn’t give him time to respond. He disappeared.
By then, Lysander had already gotten the information he needed. He knew where Noah was. He knew what was happening. And he was racing toward the Imperial Palace before the situation became even worse.
What Lysander didn’t know was that Lucifer had already made his own move.
Indestructible demons were being sent toward the Empire. They weren’t going there to negotiate. They were going there to finish the battle Damon Ashborn had started.
Back inside Lucifer’s palace, the Demon King slowly returned to his throne. His eyes settled on Oliver.
"Arch demons." His voice echoed through the hall. "I want them gathered."
Marak’s face fell.
Lucifer’s gaze became terrifying. "They are all going to battle against my son." His fingers tightened around the armrest. "Kill that Pureblood at all costs."
The demons around him remained silent.
"And if he can somehow be killed..." Lucifer smiled. "Bring me his heart as proof."
Oliver’s face paled.
Lucifer continued. "But if he truly cannot be killed, then spread the word." His smile became monstrous. "Spread it across Hell."
He leaned forward. "Lysander, my son, is mated to the last Pureblood on Earth."
Marak’s jaw dropped.
Lucifer’s eyes gleamed. "I will simply watch." His voice became almost joyful. "I’ll watch the witches, demons, and every other creature turn against him." His smile widened. "They can finish him for me."
Marak immediately looked toward Oliver. "But Lysander signed a pact with him."
Lucifer’s face twisted. For a moment, something monstrous seemed to move beneath his skin. "That’s so the witch will be safe." His eyes became cold. "I never promised anything about Ashton Lane..."
He paused. "...or whatever that Pureblood’s name is."
Lucifer snapped his fingers. "Carry the witch."
Several demons immediately approached Oliver. "He stays in your hands until I need him."
Marak reluctantly stepped forward.
Lucifer’s gaze locked onto him. "And tell the Arch demons exactly what I instructed."
Marak swallowed. "Yes, Your Majesty."
Lucifer leaned back against his throne. "Marak..."
Marak stopped.
"If you betray me..." The entire hall seemed to freeze. "...the Abyss would be a better option for you than my wrath."
Marak’s throat bobbed as he swallowed hard. He reached Oliver and reluctantly took hold of him.
Oliver didn’t resist. His mind was still trying to process everything. Lysander had left him in Hell. But he had promised to come back. He had to come back. Because if Lysander failed to rescue Noah, there would be no one left to stop Lucifer from unleashing Hell upon the Pureblood.
And somewhere far away, Lysander was already racing toward the Imperial Palace. He had no idea that Lucifer had turned the entire demon race against the person he loved.
Behind him, Lucifer’s laughter began echoing through the enormous hall once again. It followed Marak and Oliver even after they disappeared through the doors.
A laugh filled with madness.
A laugh that promised war.
