A force slammed through Lysander’s chest as he returned from delivering the message to his comrade. He had expected to see Noah the moment he returned. He had expected to feel that familiar connection between them, the invisible thread that always seemed to pull at his soul whenever Noah was near.
But the moment Lysander stepped back into his domain, something felt wrong.
Very wrong.
The usual connection he shared with Noah was missing. The link felt weak. For one terrifying moment, it felt as though it had completely disappeared, as if it had never existed in the first place.
Lysander stopped walking. His face darkened. Fear and urgency flashed through his crimson eyes.
"No..."
He immediately rushed forward, searching for any sign of what had happened. His steps carried him straight toward the center of the domain.
The moment he reached the middle of the grounds, he could smell Noah. His scent was there. But it was fading. Stripping away from the air little by little, almost as though someone was erasing his existence from the place.
Lysander frowned. His heart tightened.
"Noah..." He closed his eyes and concentrated. "Dear..." Nothing. "Love?" Still nothing.
Lysander opened his eyes. His expression darkened further.
He walked toward the house, listening carefully. Perhaps Noah was inside. Perhaps everyone had simply moved somewhere else.
He pressed his ear against the wall, trying to catch even the faintest conversation. Nothing. Not a single voice. Not a single footstep. Not even the sound of someone breathing.
Something inside Lysander snapped.
BOOM!
He slammed his foot into the ground. A powerful shockwave traveled through the earth, cracks spreading rapidly across the ground in every direction. The entire domain trembled.
The force reached the house almost immediately.
Rose and Oliver rushed outside in alarm. "What the hell was that?!"
Rose looked around before her gaze landed on Lysander. His eyes were burning crimson. His fists were clenched tightly at his sides. The aura surrounding him was becoming increasingly dangerous.
Rose narrowed her eyes. "Is there a problem?"
Oliver stood behind her, equally confused as he tried to understand what had happened.
Lysander’s mood only grew darker. "Are you mad?" His voice was low. "Can’t you look around and see that your fucking friends are gone?!"
His demonic power spread across the domain. He had expected to see Noah. Lamia. Eugene. Damian. But none of them were there. Not a single one.
The realization made his anger explode.
Rose’s mouth curled slightly. "They’re training beside the garden area." She folded her arms. "I saw them there not long ago, so don’t come right to my face accusing me of something I didn’t do."
Oliver didn’t wait for the argument to continue. He immediately walked toward the garden.
But when he arrived—his steps stopped.
The garden was empty. Lamia wasn’t there. Neither was Noah. Eugene and Damian were gone too.
Oliver’s heart immediately dropped. Fear crawled into his chest. For a moment, Lysander’s words echoed in his head.
Your fucking friends are gone.
"No..." Oliver looked around. Maybe they had simply moved. Maybe they were somewhere nearby. He forced himself to remain calm.
"Ashton!" His voice echoed through the garden. "Lamia!"
Silence.
Oliver swallowed. He tried again. "Ashton! Lamia, are you there?!"
Nothing.
The silence became unbearable. Oliver’s hands began trembling. He looked around frantically, searching for any sign of them.
Nothing.
Rose finally arrived behind him. "What do you mean you can’t find them?" Her earlier confidence disappeared. "They can’t have vanished like that. It’s impossible."
She looked around wildly. "I know I saw them. I fucking spoke with Lamia. I got angry and left, but they were here." Her voice cracked. "Eugene and Damian were here too." She pressed a hand against her chest. "But where did they go?"
The possibility of something terrible happening began filtering through her mind.
She looked toward Lysander. The demon prince was pacing back and forth. His hands were clenched. His breathing was becoming heavier.
"You two are witches." He suddenly stopped. "Do some spell and get them back." His eyes flashed. "Right now."
Rose immediately nodded. She was too frightened to argue.
Oliver stepped forward. "Leave it to me." He looked around the garden. "All I need is more energy. For now, get me some candles and bring them here."
Rose immediately moved. "I’ll get them."
Oliver turned toward the area where he remembered seeing Lamia earlier. "I think this is where they were last. If I can trace their movements through the residue of their magic, I might be able to find out where they went."
Rose rushed away.
Lysander remained behind. He continued pacing. "Just left him for a few minutes to get something done..." He ran a hand through his hair. "And this is what happened?"
His voice trembled with anger. "I don’t understand why I have powerful people in this house if they’re all fucking useless."
Oliver glanced at him. "Lysander—"
"Does this make any sense?" Lysander’s eyes burned. "If it’s not uselessness, then what happened to someone who was supposed to be protected by all of us?"
His fists tightened. "And Lamia isn’t he a Phoenix witch?" He laughed bitterly. "Or did this happen right under his nose too?"
His expression changed. "What even happened to him?"
He stopped. Something else had just occurred to him. Lysander had learned something he never wanted to admit.
No matter where he went, Noah was supposed to go with him. But Lucifer couldn’t. His father was different. Lucifer couldn’t simply walk into the human world without consequences.
And now Noah was gone.
"Fuck!" His shout echoed across the garden.
Oliver flinched. "Can you stop shouting?" Oliver snapped. "You’re making me anxious." He took a breath. "They’re okay. I believe that."
But the moment the words left his mouth—something twisted violently inside his chest.
Oliver froze. His face immediately turned pale. "Ah..." He doubled over. A strange gurgling sound escaped his throat. Then blood spilled from his lips.
Lysander’s expression changed. He immediately rushed toward him. "What the hell?"
Oliver began gagging.
Lysander grabbed his shoulder. "What’s the problem?! Is this supposed to happen?" He had no idea what he was supposed to do with what he was seeing. "Who is doing this to you?" His voice became threatening. "Talk. Right now."
Oliver clutched his chest. "I..." He struggled to breathe. "I connected myself with Lamia."
Lysander froze. "What?"
"As a protective tool." Oliver’s voice shook. "I connected my magic to his so that if anything happened to him, I would know." He swallowed painfully. "It was a way to keep close contact with him and make sure he stayed safe."
The pain suddenly disappeared. Oliver straightened. But his expression didn’t improve. Instead, pure terror filled his eyes.
Lysander grabbed him by the shoulders. "You’re still talking in circles." His voice was dangerously low. "Stop trying to scare me. What’s going on?"
He pointed toward the blood on Oliver’s lips. "The blood. The pain. Everything that just happened." Lysander’s eyes narrowed. "I would’ve ignored it if it wasn’t connected to this."
He glanced toward the empty garden. "Rose already confirmed they were together. Lamia was with Noah." His voice dropped. "So wherever Lamia was..." He paused. "Noah was there too."
Oliver stared at him. Then he slowly stood. His hands began trembling. Tears gathered in his eyes.
"Lamia..." His voice broke. "I think he’s gone."
Lysander’s expression went completely still.
Oliver shook his head. "I can’t feel him anymore." A tear slipped down his cheek. "That pain..." He touched his chest. "It happens when someone is in a death-like situation." His breathing became uneven. "But now..." He looked at Lysander. "I can’t connect with him anymore."
The words hit Lysander harder than anything else could have.
For a second, he simply stared at Oliver. Then—"No." His voice was barely audible. "No." He shook his head. "I am not taking this."
Oliver stepped back. "Lysander—"
"I said I’m not taking this!"
Lysander grabbed Oliver by the neck.
BOOM!
He slammed him against a nearby stone pillar. Oliver gasped.
Lysander’s fangs emerged. His eyes became a terrifying crimson, blood-like glow. "I swear to God..." His grip tightened. "If you don’t find Noah right now..."
Oliver’s eyes widened.
"I will rip your heart out." Lysander leaned closer. "And you can join your dear Lamia in the grave."
Oliver struggled to breathe. But before he could answer, the space around them suddenly twisted. The world distorted. A violent dimensional force wrapped around both of them. Oliver’s body lifted from the ground.
"What—"
The next second, both Lysander and Oliver vanished.
Rose returned moments later carrying the candles. "Oliver?" Nothing. She looked around. "Lysander?"
Still nothing.
The candles slipped from her hands. They crashed onto the ground.
Rose stared at the empty space where they had been standing. Her breathing became rapid.
"No..." She looked around desperately. "Where are you people?" Her voice trembled. "What happened?"
She ran toward the garden. "Please..."
But there was no answer.
Then she saw them. Eugene. Damian. Both were still there. Both trapped in their unnatural death sleep.
Rose’s hands began trembling. She looked at them. Then back toward the empty garden. Her face slowly went stiff.
"No..." Her voice barely escaped. "Please..."
She backed away.
For the first time, Rose was completely alone. And everyone she loved was disappearing one after another.
