Chapter 121: Chapter 121 Coming clean!
"Are you fucking kidding me?" Rose exclaimed, her voice cutting through the tension like a blade. "Is this how you all are going to welcome me?"
That immediately made Lamia stop, pulling himself back before retreating and halting in his tracks. He stepped away from Oliver, who by the sight of things looked so wrecked in ways that were so alluring that Rose couldn’t help but drop her jaw.
"In what universe just happened?" Rose continued, her voice filled with disbelief. "Lamia—on top of his teacher! Oh gracious Lord, this is a level of insanity I just didn’t know I would see."
She stood up dramatically, though a powerful migraine threatened to stop her, but it didn’t prevent her from moving closer. "This is a dream. I’m in a world filled with an alter ego because Lamia can’t do this. It’s obviously not him."
Rose laughed so hard that Lamia and Oliver couldn’t help but gawk at her. Oliver shifted his pants and took a step apart from Rose, whispering as if the events of minutes ago hadn’t happened. "I think your friend might have cracked in the head because what is she saying?"
Lamia glared at Oliver, who immediately shut his mouth, his palms covering his face as he got reminded of the little ordeal that had occurred. "Well, Rose and her friend—I will go over to the room and pretend as if this never happened. Try to forget that a younger guy almost completely dominated me."
He dashed away like a fly chasing food, and Rose’s eyes narrowed back to Lamia. "OMG, dude, is that the tea? I want everything—really, what happened?"
But then, almost immediately, all the joy in Rose’s eyes diminished and vanished as she remembered the last time—and what had happened to her. She looked around and didn’t recognize the place. She was standing in a cottage with flowers around and different plants that obviously shouldn’t exist in real life. She spotted one with what appeared to be arms, curved in a sleeping position. If that wasn’t the strangest one, there were still more in store.
"Are you okay, Rose?" Lamia asked, his voice soft with concern. "You were really out for a long time, and I got scared. You don’t know how scared I was. And Ashton—"
But Rose looked around and couldn’t find Ashton. She sighed. "But he isn’t here? If he was worried about me, then where is he?"
She fell back on her butt right at the foam she had been laying on earlier. Her head was clouded with things she had experienced and stuff she remembered—one of which was the people she had killed at Ashton’s birthday party.
"He isn’t here because he has something to do inside," Lamia explained, "but he was with you all the time. You don’t know how he fought for you, how I fought for you. We thought you had disappeared for good, and he was traumatized, thinking he caused this. Don’t say that, Rose. Just because he isn’t here right now doesn’t mean he doesn’t love you."
Rose nodded, but doubt lingered in her heart. With the way things had happened at the beginning, and how she had been the one chasing the friendship with Ashton, it wouldn’t be a surprise if he had abandoned her. Now, again, the fact that this wasn’t Ashton—someone else—made her tremble.
That was why he was different. How he now protected them, why his choices felt a bit overboard, not to mention his sudden change in fashion sense. That was one big giveaway that the original Ashton could never achieve. No matter how much she loved that guy, he had horrendous taste in clothes, and that was one of the core reasons he was mocked so much back in school.
"Lamia, don’t you feel that this isn’t our Ashton?" she decided to ask him, wanting to know if he had noticed.
Well, that was until Lamia smiled. "Well, I suspected it, but I loved it. This is the Ashton I love and the person I would protect. The other one with his malicious attitude—I can’t stand him. You’re not the only one that saw the drastic change in him. Amnesia or not, someone can’t suddenly be all different when they awaken. Of course, it has been caused by something, and I might not know what it was, but it doesn’t change that he is my friend till the end. Or are you having doubts about your friendship?"
Immediately, Rose shook her head. "I can never hate him. It’s just that things have changed, and it would be stupid to not see that. Of course we are closer than before with him, and now we are three, but it feels distant. Look at me—I’m the only one that doesn’t know so much about my friends. Now when I woke up, I saw another you right now. This isn’t the Lamia we all know of. You’ve been hiding something, and about your discoveries, you’ve been hiding it with Mr. Oliver. You told me it was nothing, but you had more with him than what you let me know. And it’s not fair."
She began crying, her fragile state making her look so pathetic. "Ashton—I feel like I don’t know him anymore. Of course, he isn’t the same when he fell from that building, but right now it feels like he isn’t letting me know things about him. And I genuinely want to know. I want to know how you all are feeling, what your pains are, and how I can help. I want that, not secrets all the time. Why can’t you guys understand?"
Rose hiccupped, tears streaming down her cheeks. Lamia’s hands dropped by his sides as he knelt before her, holding both of her hands. "Remember the night of that party? I also killed those students. Maybe it’s because you guys see something in me—I am a monster, right? I ended the lives of those two, and I—"
She burst into more tears, and Lamia enveloped her in a big hug. "You’re a sweet angel, one of the brightest stars in this little group. The light of our life, and we can’t lose you. Of course, if you can remember, I was also there, and it was both our mistake that killed those two. It wasn’t our fault—something happened and made us do that. Cheer up and don’t cry anymore. I won’t hide anything from you again, Rose. Not telling you was just that I wanted to protect you."
Well, Rose shook her head. "And how did that play out? I got possessed by a son of a bitch and almost got killed. So yeah, not knowing is worse."
That made Lamia nod, and he rubbed his hands together. Maybe he should start from telling her that he isn’t what he thinks he is. "I’m not an omega, Rose. I am..."
He paused, the words catching in his throat. Rose looked at him, her eyes wide with anticipation. "You’re what, Lamia? Just say it. No more secrets."
Lamia took a deep breath, his gaze meeting hers with a intensity she had never seen before. "I’m not just an omega.
