Chapter 117 Not an omega!
Chapter 117: Chapter 117 Not an omega!
Walking out of the school didn’t feel as great as Noah had expected.
If anything, he felt worse.
The answers he had been searching for were still somewhere inside that school, buried beneath its terrifying history, the monsters, the spirits, and probably a whole lot of secrets that nobody had bothered telling him about.
And now the entire structure was on fire.
Even the Book of Shadows was still in there.
Noah couldn’t stop thinking about it.
What if there had been something inside that book meant for him? What if there was something written in those pages that could explain his powers, his past, the previous heroes, or even the strange connection between him and the emperor?
He had been warned not to use it.
Fine.
He understood that.
But leaving the school behind still felt like the worst decision he could possibly make.
"You’re not going to save everyone," Lamia told him, standing beside him at the edge of a cliff far away from the school. "There is nothing else we could have done."
Noah didn’t answer immediately.
He simply stood there, staring into the distance.
Around them stretched a huge field, wide enough that the wind could move freely without anything blocking its path. The soft breeze passed through Noah’s hair, making the strands flutter around his face and highlighting his features beneath the fading light.
For the first time in what felt like forever, there was no screaming directly beside him.
No monsters were clawing through walls.
No students were running for their lives.
No blood was splattered across the floor.
It was almost peaceful.
Almost.
Lamia watched him for a moment before smiling.
"What is it?" Noah finally asked when he noticed the expression. "You’ve been smiling for a while now. Aren’t you worried about Rose?"
Lamia’s smile immediately weakened.
"Of course I’m worried about her. But she’s out of danger. At most, she should wake up within twenty hours."
"Twenty hours?"
"Give or take."
Noah nodded slowly.
Lamia then looked toward the open field again.
"Right now, I’m just staring at this view. We haven’t seen anything like this for almost a month because we’ve been trapped in that damn school." His smile returned, and his pure white teeth flashed beneath the sunlight. "Don’t you feel it too?"
"Feel what?"
"That bubbling feeling in your stomach."
Noah raised an eyebrow.
"The feeling that you’re finally free."
Lamia spread his arms slightly, breathing in the fresh air.
"I feel great. Honestly, I could stay here forever. And I have this strange feeling that someone else is sharing the exact same feeling with me."
Noah gave him a small smile.
"It is great."
He looked toward the horizon again.
"But for some reason, it also feels foreign."
"Foreign?"
"Yeah." Noah’s brows furrowed. "Like I don’t belong here."
Lamia’s expression changed slightly.
Noah didn’t notice.
"But whatever," Noah muttered. "We’ll survive."
A distant explosion suddenly echoed across the land.
BOOM!
Noah flinched.
Then another followed.
And another.
The sound of screaming drifted faintly through the wind.
His expression immediately fell.
"I don’t think I can stand this noise anymore."
He wanted them to leave.
Now.
As Noah turned around, however, he noticed the others gathered together at a distance. Eugene, Damian, Killian, and Marcus were standing in a small group, clearly discussing something.
Noah narrowed his eyes.
"What are they whispering about over there?"
Lamia followed his gaze.
"Something wrong?" Noah asked. "I thought we’d already found a proper place to stay for now."
"I don’t think it’s that."
"Then what is it?"
"Maybe the school."
Noah looked back toward the burning structure.
Lamia sighed.
"That place was more than just a school. It was a prison. The structure itself was what kept all manner of abominations trapped beneath it. Now that it’s been destroyed, everything that was sealed inside has a way out."
Noah’s stomach dropped.
"You’re saying more monsters escaped?"
"That’s exactly what I’m saying."
Lamia’s expression became serious.
"And we haven’t even talked about the dragons."
Noah froze.
"Dragons?"
"Yes."
He pointed toward the distant sky.
"The people who controlled them—the dragon affinity users—are nowhere to be found. Slyvia, Emily, and her friend are missing."
Noah swallowed.
"Wait."
Lamia continued.
"And now there are dragons flying around without anyone controlling them."
"How many?"
"Enough."
That answer was somehow worse than giving him an actual number.
"Dragons are some of the most deadly creatures on this planet," Noah said slowly.
"Exactly."
"And dozens of them were just released?"
"Pretty much."
Noah stared at him.
"That’s a disaster."
"That’s what I’ve been trying to tell you."
"And nobody can stop them?"
"Only dragon affinity users can properly control them. They’re dragon lords and dragon ladies. An ordinary person getting within a meter of one would probably end up dead."
Noah’s face tightened.
"Then what happens if someone tries to control them with dark magic?"
Lamia’s expression became grim.
"Then we have an even bigger problem."
Noah didn’t like where this was going.
"Why?"
"Because if someone powerful gets their hands on those dragons, they could turn them into weapons."
Silence settled between them.
The distant screams suddenly sounded much louder.
Noah rubbed his forehead.
"The world is already falling apart."
"And it hasn’t even reached the worst part yet."
Noah looked at him sharply.
"What could possibly be worse?"
Lamia didn’t answer.
Instead, he stared toward the burning school.
That silence alone gave Noah his answer.
There was something worse.
Something he hadn’t been told.
But before Noah could press him about it, another thought suddenly entered his mind.
"You didn’t tell me you were that powerful."
Lamia looked at him.
Noah folded his arms.
"I thought we were friends."
"We are."
"Then why did you spend all that time pretending to be weak?"
Lamia’s expression became unreadable.
"You were a top-tier magic user this entire time. You allowed people to bully you, insult you, and treat you like you were completely helpless."
Noah shook his head.
"That doesn’t make any sense."
"It wasn’t supposed to."
Noah stared harder at him.
"What exactly were you trying to achieve?"
There were too many possibilities.
The entire world seemed to be after him because he was a pureblood.
Maybe Lamia was searching for something too.
Maybe he had come to the school for something hidden beneath it.
Maybe he had already found it.
Or maybe—
"I was never that weak, omega."
Lamia’s voice interrupted his thoughts.
Noah blinked.
Lamia smiled faintly.
"Let’s just say I’m not an omega at all."
The revelation hit Noah so hard that he actually staggered backward.
"What?"
Lamia didn’t move.
"You heard me."
"You’re fucking serious?"
Noah stared at him as if he had suddenly grown another head.
"How? Why? Then why did you keep that low profile all this time?"
Lamia remained silent.
"What are you trying to achieve?"
There were suddenly even more questions than before.
The entire world seemed to be hiding something.
The emperor was hiding something.
His alphas were hiding things.
The school had been hiding monsters.
And now Lamia wasn’t even an omega.
What the hell was going on?
Lamia opened his mouth to answer.
But before he could say anything, Killian approached with Marcus.
"Are we going to the place now?"
Noah turned.
Killian gestured toward the others.
"Lysander’s cottage. It’s safe enough for all of us. At least we can figure out what the emperor is planning before deciding where to go next."
He paused.
"And I’m pretty sure the emperor didn’t die in that mess."
Noah’s expression darkened.
"He definitely didn’t."
"If that’s the case, he’ll be searching for you right now."
Noah glanced back at Lamia.
He had been waiting for an answer.
But now the moment was gone.
Lamia wasn’t going to continue the conversation with everyone standing around.
Noah sighed.
Fine.
He would ask him later.
He turned to follow Killian, but Lamia stepped closer.
Before Noah could react, Lamia leaned toward his ear.
"I came to this school for you."
Noah’s footsteps stopped.
"You and only you."
His voice was low enough that the others couldn’t hear.
"You’re my mission."
Noah slowly turned his head.
Lamia tucked a loose strand of Noah’s hair behind his ear.
"And I can do anything for you."
His smile was almost frighteningly calm.
"Even end the goddamn world if that’s what it takes."
Noah’s eyes widened.
Lamia stepped back.
"So don’t think I came here looking for something else."
He gave Noah one final look.
"There is nothing else."
Then he walked away.
Noah remained standing there.
His brain had completely stopped functioning.
His hand slowly rose to his head as a throbbing pain began building behind his eyes.
"What the fuck..."
He looked toward Lamia’s retreating back.
"Rose seriously needs to wake up."
He shook his head.
"She needs to hear all of this."
Because there was no way he was going to be the only person carrying these revelations.
First, Lamia wasn’t an omega.
Second, Lamia had apparently come to the school specifically for him.
And third—
I can do anything for you, even end the goddamn world.
Noah rubbed his face.
"Oh damn."
He was beginning to think Rose wasn’t going to be the only one crashing out when she woke up.
