How long will it take for him to return from wherever he went?

’’Alve,’’ she rolled on the extremely soft bed that should be considered illegal for people to use and turned towards the demon who had been staying with her since he left, cleaning the bathroom and arranging fresh clothes for her to wear until her new wardrobe arrived.

’’Yes, Miss!’’ the demon answered with a smile as she peaked from the entrance of the large walk-in-closest that belonged to that monster.

She didn’t know he had such luxurious taste for a shapeshifting freak. Perhaps one day she could wander in there and learn more about him through his taste in clothes.

’’Can you guess what time it is?’’

’’Hmm,’’

Alve turned towards the ceiling. It was currently nighttime, though she remembered it had been around two in the afternoon when the unusual weather began. If her calculations and instincts were right and with how everywhere was dark and a bit quiet even in the building...

’’We should be somewhere between eleven pm and twelve am in the morning, Miss.’’

’’Twelve?’’ Corrine moved from the soft pillow. Her lips parting in shock.

She couldn’t believe he had forgotten and abandoned her here for so long now without even checking up on her.

Corrine scoffed enough for Alve to blink, curious to know what she was thinking about.

And he would be in-front of her, saying elaborate words of how he can’t bear to be without her for half a second.

She rolled her eyes and sighed.

I can’t believe I have wasted that much time eating and doing nothing but relaxing on this really cool and soft bed.

She turned to the bed and her finger moved against the dark sheet.

Even her loyal employees forgot about checking up on her later on.

Corrine shook her head again and Alve wondered what was making the human look so unhappy.

She was too pretty to wear such a depressing look on her face.

’’Oh, I know what the problem is!’’ Alve announced, stepping out of the closest, throwing away the duster in her hand.

’’You are missing him, isn’t that right?’’ Alve teased, lightly poking her on the side.

Corrine’s frown deepened.

’’Missing who?’’

The way she said that caused a chill to rush down Alve’s spine but she concealed that discomfort with a nervous laugh and said quickly instead, ’’Or you might just be feeling hungry?’’

Corrine blinked, her frown deepening as she wasn’t making any sense to her.

’’Don’t worry, I’ll go get something nice for you to eat. Something light, yummy and sweet.’’ She giggled and before Corrine could open her mouth to stop her she had already left.

Vanishing right in front of her. Leaving behind the echoes of her amusement as she noticed how the demon seemed to enjoy serving her a lot.

Corrine sighed again and resumed her thoughts.

Seriously.

She turned enough to place one foot on the ground.

Where did that annoying little thing go?

She still needed to enforce her three rules on him and discuss a few other things with him.

Like, what in the world do they call his kind? Something that can shapeshift into a giant mutant cobra—or an anacond–type creature?

Who and what are the other hellish beings living with her in this building?

And she definitely needs more backstory on why he decided she was the right person to drag into this hell pit. Was it simply because she was prettier than the other girls who had treated him differently?

Corrine placed her other foot down. Even though she had fully recovered and rested, she still had a throbbing sensation at the back of her head.

Corrine stilled as she remembered the pain of falling from such a height and landing hard on the car below. Shattered glass had pierced every inch of her body and she remembered the back of her head smashing hard enough to make her lose so much blood.

She shivered again. The silence got into her as she thought about how she died.

What forced her to take that single, irrevocable decision that night.

The cruel words of her father.

And the harsh reality of her situation.

Corrine tried not to think too much about it. Her eyes fell closed briefly as she tried to think of anything else that wouldn’t make her heart race or her head to ache.

Now, she was free of her illness, only to find her in the captivity of a possessive lover.

She stared at the corners of the room.

I need my phone and other personal things to stay in touch with the outside world.

I can’t live the rest of this life sitting here looking pretty whenever he decides to strangle her in her sleep and make her his next midnight meal.

She shivered at the thought.

Then she recalled the last text message she received before she met her end.

Henry...

He had contacted her just minutes before she...

Her heart paused as she replayed the last moments of her demise.

A push....

She thought about it again.

Someone had pushed me even before I had taken the step...

She blinked as she tried to recall the stranger’s face, but nothing came to her. It was too blurry. She had already been falling before she had a chance to see who had pushed her.

Ack.

My head hurts even while thinking about it.

But I wonder what Henry had to say to me before I died?

And it looks like the only people that knew about her death were her, that creature and Alve.

And maybe that green eyed freak too that always gave her an I will murder you soon glare whenever her love wasn’t looking.

She frowned in disgust as she sat with her hands resting on her lap.

What’s his deal with me anyway?

I don’t know him and I’m pretty sure I had no idea who he was in my previous life.

Corrine swallowed hard at the next thought that revealed itself to her.

She wondered if her darling father still had great plans to ruin her life again.

’’I’m backkkk!!’’

Alve sang in a funny, deep voice as she wheeled in a pile of sweet things she was sure three people wouldn’t be able to devour everything at once and no matter how hungry they were.

’’Hmm, already excited for this, are you, miss?’’ she teased when she noticed the look of surprise on Corrine’s face.

’’I don’t know your favourites yet so I brought anything I could find in the kitchen and warmed some of it up for you.’’

She was sweet enough to bring her a bowl of ice cream.

But Corrine’s lips turned in disapproval.

Ice cream or sweet things weren’t really her favourite things.

Nonetheless, the cart of yummy dessert was wheeled right in front of her.

Humph.

This creature was spoiling her too much.

’’Oh, and,’’ the lively demon bent a bit to pull out a dark, black box with a golden flower ribbon tied on top. The slight blush on Alve’s face made her nervous and curious to know what this was about.

’’I met Lord Azazel on the way and he told me to give you this.’’

’’Me?’’

Alve nodded, giving her the box.

Corrine collected it after overthinking it.

’’Open it, miss. I’m also curious to know what’s inside.’’

’’Is it such a good idea to open it when we do not know who its from?’’

Alve thought about it, then shrugged off her concern.

’’It should be fine. And don’t worry miss, I will be here to protect you in case anything happens. So, open it.’’

Very reassuring.

Either way, Corrine stopped overthinking it and loosened the golden ribbon. Even before she opened the lid of the box, she already had a bad feeling about it.

The box had a solid and polished dark look. She loved the quality and the glossy look it had even in the dark.

She opened it and...
