Chapter 594: Dismantling the Green Dragon
Chapter 594: Dismantling the Green Dragon
Eguchi Ren: The update was delayed because I rewrite some parts of it (sweats). Please forgive me as this happens sometimes.
Gumihou: Oh, I get you, Eguchi-san
“We’re back,” I said as my party landed in the High Elf village on Grandpa Gon.
The six High Elves gathered around with uneasy looks on their faces. I was unclear why they were like this until Jorgen stepped forward to ask, “Has the Dragon submission… failed?”
“Failed?” For a moment, I was not entirely clear what Jorgen was talking about.
“That is, you just left this morning, but you’re back already…” said Adela.
The other High Elves were also looking pensively at us. It took me another moment to realise that it was not normal for people to go out hunting in the morning and return at dusk unless something bad happened.
“Um…” I started, wondering how to explain things without looking like I was showing off.
“Considering that the opponent is the Green Dragon, there’s no shame in failing the hunt,” said Verde.
“That’s right, according to legend, the warriors of our village once set out to subjugate the Green Dragon. They fought for three days and three nights before finally defeating it. That was the kind of opponent we are facing, no one will blame you for failing,” said Rodomir.
Selma and Laura nodded sympathetically at us.
“… …” How should I explain what had happened?
Well, there’s no reason why I should be the one to explain, right?
I turned to Fer and as expected, the Fenrir sniffed proudly and said, “Hmph, do not compare our party with ordinary Adventurers.”
“That’s right, there’s no way we would ever lose to the likes of a mere Green Dragon,” Grandpa Gon growled. He sounded uncharacteristically disgruntled.
““That’s right! That’s right!!”” Dora-chan howled. The others could not hear him, of course, but the way he was waving his arms and zipping about angrily was enough to convey his feelings.
Sui was also bouncing in place, puffing up and saying things like, “”Sui defeated Mister Dragon~~!! Sui did not fail~!!””
The High Elves looked blankly at Fer and Grandpa Gon.
“Eh?”
“Well, I must say that it was not all smooth going. That cowardly creature ran off the moment it realised that it could not fight us off,” Grandpa Gon said generously.
“Umu, we had to track it down to its lair and break through the barrier before getting our meat without damaging it too much.”
“Hah?”
“… …” I must admit, seeing all six flawlessly beautiful men and women with their jaws dropped and eyes wide open was pretty funny. I could not help but add to their confusion by saying, “Well, we’re only back late because I had to feed my familiars lunch first. I’m sure you understand.”
My familiars nodded and said ‘That’s right, lunch is very important’.
“… Lunch?”
“You subjugated the Green Dragon and had… lunch?”
What can I say? Their expressions were seriously hilarious. There’s no way you can fault me for finding it funny, right?
I had long accepted that my familiars were all overpowered and things like this can’t be helped. It was already a fact of life.
“Also, since we came back late, it’s probably better to dismantle the Green Dragon tomorrow, right?”
The High Elves were still staring wordlessly at me. Finally, I could not stand their stares any more and quickly ran off to shut myself in the house I had rented from them.
After breakfast the next morning, I found that the High Elves had cleared a yard and prepared the tools for a major dismantling job.
“Good morning!”
“Ah, morning.”
After a brief greeting, the conversation turned to the matter of the dismantling of the Green Dragon.
“We expect the Green Dragon to be on the large size, so it’s best to dismantle it outside,” said Jorgen.
I already know this, but nodded along anyway.
“Thankfully, the weather is good today, so the dismantling should go quite smoothly,” said Verde. He nodded at one of the female High Elves, “Laura, if you could?”
[1]
“Yes,” Laura stepped forward and put out her hands. A square earth table (platform?) appeared in the middle of the yard.
“Laura is our best Earth Magic user,” said Jorgen.
“Is this the right size?” asked Laura.
I estimated the square of earth and said, “I think it should be bigger. A little more… um, a bit more…”
As the earth table got bigger and bigger, Radomir muttered, “That Green Dragon is bigger than we estimated…”
Eventually, I stopped Laura. Verde stepped forward to say, “Right, make the table slightly slanted, will you? Also, make sure the surface is non-permeable. We don’t want to waste a single drop of blood.”
“Yes,” Laura easily adjusted the table according to Verde’s specifications.
Eventually, Verde nodded with satisfaction. “Good, something like this should be fine. Mukouda? Please take out the Green Dragon.”
“Okay,” I said as I stepped close to the newly made earth table (more like a platform or a stage) and took out the Green Dragon under everyone’s stare.
[1]
“Woah…”
“That’s… huge!”
“I knew Mukouda must have your own [Item Box] but I never thought that a human would have an [Item Box] that’s comparable to that of a High Elf’s,” said Jorgen.
“Er, yes, I’m very thankful. Haha,” I quickly changed the subject. “Do all High Elves have [Item Boxes]?”
“Yes, we are all magically gifted, which means we all have one to a varying degree in terms of capacity. Even the weakest and youngest High Elf would have one with the capacity of a small house,” Jorgen jerked a thumb at one of the nearby houses.
“Oh, that’s pretty decent,” I said. The house in question was not large, but considering how quickly Feodora-san’s [Item Box] filled up, it was at least 10 to 15 times larger than hers.
“I think the greatest capacity I came across was one that could accommodate about 100 Green Dragons of this size,” said Radomir.
Verde smiled and said, “Ah, yes, Lucas. He took care of me when I first came to this island.”
“Hey, enough useless talk!”
“Time to work, we have a big dragon to dismantle!”
“Come on, let’s start!”
The female High Elves said. One of them even smacked her husband’s butt.
Also, I’m totally not jealous. Not jealous at all by their interactions.
“Let’s get started,” Verde took out a white knife and approached the Green Dragon.
I studied the knife, wondering what it was made from. It didn’t look like metal, so, not Mithril?
“Oho, is Mukouda curious about my knife?”
“Um,” I felt a little embarrassed about being easily caught out. “I know that it’s not mithril…”
“Heh, it’s fine. This knife is made from Earth Dragon’s claw. Mithril knives aren’t bad, but this one’s better in terms of sharpness and durability. Well, you’ll soon understand.”
With that, Verde unceremoniously stabbed the Green Dragon with the knife.
[2] He caught a major artery quickly, and blood flowed out of the creature down to the platform where jars (made by Laura) were ready to store the blood. The High Elves worked quickly and efficiently. It was almost like watching a synchronised dance routine as they flitted about taking off the skin and removing meat, organs and veins.
The demolition progressed quickly under Verde’s instructions and soon…
“Phew, it’s done.”
It was only a little bit past noon, but the demolition of an entire Green Dragon was completed.
I swear, my familiars cheered.
“Fuhahahaha! Well done! It was worth waiting to have this for lunch.”
“Indeed. Master, we are ready for lunch now.”
“”Green Dragon Steak! Green Dragon Roast!””
“”Dragon~~””
I had wondered why my familiars did not bug me about the simple lunch, but it looked like they had collectively decided to have Dragon Steak for lunch. I guess this kind of meal is worth waiting for.
“Yes, yes,” I murmured as I got my stove out and my own earth table ready.
Time to grill up some Dragon Steaks for the Gluttonous Quartet as well as the Dismantling Team of Six.
[Gumihou: I actually adjusted very little here. It’s mostly Eguchi-san’s work!]
