Chapter 280 - A Wave Of Familiarity
Yvonne tilted her head and waited for the Butler to report to her everything concerning the maid on whom they had decided to keep a close watch.
Butler Limo was in charge of the entire mansion so it was safe to say that he had information about everything that took place inside this estate.
'He's a better informant than Mrs. Jacinth.' The Little girl surmised as she could receive a lot more information from the Butler than from her maid who usually stayed with her for the entire day.
Ever since this unsuspecting pair had formed an alliance to keep the peace of the St. Claire mansion secured this morning before the assessment could begin, the Butler was keeping a stern watch over the greedy maid.
Thus, he was over-enthusiastic to inform what he had witnessed and heard today.
"I am sure that Miss had seen how that woman was staring at Master after lunch!" He complained while gritting his teeth when he recalled her envious eyes which had been fixed on the loving family before her.
'I caught her red-handed so how could I forget about it.' Yvonne sneered at the maid who thought that she was too smart and that none of them could figure her out.
"Isn't she an impudent one to stare at us without fear of getting caught?" She questioned as she raised her head to look him in the eyes.
For a second, Butler Limo felt a sense of deja vu upon witnessing the sight before him.
The menacing expression on the chubby face was something that he had seen before and known quite well.
'With that expression, she looks just like her father when he was younger!' Limo exclaimed as a wave of familiarity surged through his heart.
The sinister look in Yvonne's eye brought chills running down the old man's spine but he never let the fear appear on his face.
Since this morning he had been witnessing new expressions on the angelic child's face which were proof that she wasn't as angelic as she appeared to be.
'Aren't I exposing myself to too many people now?' The little girl wondered as the list of people who had seen the other side of her was only increasing with time.
The side that most of the servants had seen was the persona she maintained before her parents but now Butler Limo was seeing another side of her.
A side that belonged to her true personality that very few people had caught glimpses of.
First, it was the Marquess then Captain and now even the Butler was added to that list.
'That boy has also seen this side of me…' She recalled the brown-haired, forest green-eyed boy who had managed to anger her on their first meeting at the Apple pie store.
Yvonne then scoffed and immediately tossed that mental image out of her mind.
These few people had seen her when her mind was whirring to figure out answers which meant that they had most certainly caught the side of her which had a sharp tongue and a scheming mind.
This part usually remained hidden when she was with her family.
'He is already on the list of people whom I will need help from so I don't mind it if he knows the real me.' She shrugged at his frozen face which remained fixed at her.
Butler Limo snapped out of his thoughts about the past and coughed to hide his embarrassment that he was lost in a daze while his Miss was sitting right before him.
"Tell me what else happened." His Young Miss inquired without minding his momentary trance.
This gave the old man an opportunity to rectify his offenses for forgetting about her and daydreaming so he did not let go of this chance.
He explained in detail that he had heard about how the Madam had sent a different maid to invite the Earl and his guests before the lunch began.
'Hmm… Interesting…' Yvonne remarked as this was a welcome change she noticed in her mother's behavior.
He followed this up by narrating that the Madam had returned to her room after lunch instead of visiting the Master with the maid in the Parlor.
The little girl was indeed surprised at this shocking turn of events.
"So Paula did not get a chance to meet Papa even without our interference?" She inquired and received an enthusiastic nod from the man.
Hearing her chuckle, Demon stopped eating for a second as he glanced at her and then went back to his meal.
'Doesn't this make things easier for me?' She thought and nodded in approval of her mother's actions.
Butler could discern the cause of her laughter and her nod as this was how he had felt when he had first heard about this news from the maids.
"She's becoming aware of her surroundings, more importantly, the people who are around her." Yvonne muttered as she inspected the entire situation.
The Butler did not interrupt her as he was in acceptance of her speculations.
"Now all we have to do is wait for her to realize the truth about the one she trusts the most in this household." She declared and furrowed her brows when she saw the sullen face of the man standing before her.
There was an aggrieved look on the Butler's face which screamed that he was not willing to accept this answer from his Young Miss.
"What is it?" The gracious little girl gave him a chance to place his opinions before her.
"Miss, don't you think that if the Madam were to realize this matter on her own then she would have done so from the time she had married into this household?" He inquired while pulling a long and sad face.
"She wouldn't have waited for this long to realize that her maid has her greedy eyes set on her husband." He concluded the explanation for his rejection of her suggestion.
What he was trying to say was that their Madam was kind-hearted and naive.
Even if she were to realize that there was something wrong with her maid's behavior she would forgive her or at best, give her a mild punishment and let her go as she usually did.
This reason given by the Butler seemed valid to her as she nodded.
"She can be slow like that." Yvonne chastised her mother's naive ways which might cause her more harm than gain.
After all, all naivete in the Yvonne from the previous world was replaced with a shrewd and smart mind by her Grandpa Leo as he trained her to run his business.
Thus, she sighed that maybe it was time to teach her mother a lesson that not everyone in this world deserved our trust and care.
Even if they were the people closest to us, one could never say when time changed them and distorted their mind.
This was what had happened with Paula, the maid who was once grateful for the pampering she received from her Mistress.
However, time had contorted those feelings of gratitude into a deep sense of envy and animosity.
This now made Paula want to climb into that same Mistress' bed to claim a place in the Master's heart.
'Gratitude turned into resentment and indignation in this case which has corrupted the relationship between the two women.' Yvonne shook her head at how time could change a person and their feelings.
