Thrown Into A New World: Let The Punishment Begin!

Chapter 265 - The Emergence Of A New Class

'I refuse to look at your face as well!' Damien sneered as he turned his sights to the heir of the St. Claire family.

He had been observant of how the little girl was evading his eyes and he too did not have any interest to continue looking at her.

He could discern that she was trying hard to not look at him which was seen as an insult in his eyes.

'Who even wants to look at you?' He scowled and decided to treat her the same way she treated him.

Therefore, this time he did not wait for her to turn away and even did it before her.

Yvonne did not know the annoyed thoughts that were passing through Damien's mind but she was relieved that he had looked away almost instantaneously, saving her the trouble of experiencing another painful ache in her chest.

She sighed that she had been saved from this pain and turned her gaze towards her brother.

"Haven't you been taught about the 'Awakening' in class?" Damien questioned the boy who sat on the other side of the table.

In response, Howard gave him a dazed nod while trying to collect his scattered thoughts.

'Can someone tell me what this Awakening is all about?' The little girl was left in her state of confusion as she could not make sense of what they were talking about.

Her eyes then turned to the boy who sat beside her and a smile appeared on her face.

'He's in the same class so he must have learned the same things as that brat!' She concluded and decided to make use of his knowledge here.

However, before she could open her mouth to request him to explain things to her, she heard her father speaking up.

"Mind explaining this matter to my children, Des?" Rutherford narrowed his eyes and smiled at his old friend.

Though his tone was amicable and there was a smile on his face, the scary glint in his eyes was a reminder that he would not take any rejection from the other man.

The Captain gulped and nodded repeatedly as his eyes moved to the little girl and then to her elder brother.

'I won't let Vonna get any closer to you.' The father of two declared as he flashed a victorious smile for having stopped his daughter from conversing with the Tanner boy.

Desmo Reel took in a deep breath and prepared to explain what an 'Awakening' was.

"Awakening is when you siphon energy from the pool of power laying dormant in your body." He began his speech about this phenomenon.

Yvonne and Howard paid attention to what was being said as this was regarding what they were experiencing right now.

According to the legends, God Asmodeus had bestowed supernatural powers onto the King who would rule the land with righteousness and his chosen few faithful followers.

These powers aided them in consolidating the Kingdom and becoming a stable and revered land.

Enemies from different Kingdoms feared to wage wars against them because they had the ability to wield the power bestowed by the Gods themselves.

However, as time went by, these few people were the only ones with the potent powers residing in their bodies.

Thankfully, none of them were greedy to aim for the King's throne or the entire land would have delved into chaos and destruction due to their powers.

'Why is that blue bird's story becoming science fiction and fantasy the longer I stay in this place?' Yvonne wondered with furrowed brows.

The script she had read, had none of these mentioned in it.

According to her memories, this script was a sickeningly sweet historical romance about how the Prince found the love of his life despite the various obstacles that came their way.

So, why was the script changing with each day she lived in this land?

First, she had learned about what kind of a beast an etcher was and now she was learning about the Awakening.

These were concepts that were never once mentioned in the script and the only one she could find fault with for these discrepancies was the God of flight and thunder who had ever so conveniently omitted these facts.

'How much more did he omit from the script?' The little girl's mind was trying to comprehend how much her information from the script differed from the reality she was facing at this moment.

If Asmodeus had failed to touch upon these matters in his script then the question that now arose was, how much for the script was true and how much was false?

"Since God had only bestowed his powers on these men, there was no one else who could match them." Desmo's words brought her out of her thoughts.

But those men were mere mortals so they feared what might happen to their peaceful Kingdom once they perished.

However, this problem was solved after a vision came to the King in his dreams.

'Your children will have your powers.' The first King had revealed to his followers.

With this came the emergence of a new class in the Kingdom, the nobles, ones with the blood which held powers bestowed by the Gods.

They were revered and treated with special preference due to the powers passed onto them.

Like every gift given from above, there was a catch to it.

While the first generation had the highest potency of the powers, the children who came after them did not possess equal powers as their parents.

With each generation, the powers got divided until it wasn't nearly as strong as the first generation.

Over the generations, it was observed that only boys with healthy bodies possessed these powers.

As they grew older, the powers would grow but only if they were diligent in their desire to hone their skills.

Also, being born with the powers wasn't going to cut it for them but they also had to work hard to keep up the progress of their skills

However, by now, the nobles had gotten used to the belief of being above everyone else.

This brought about a change in their mentality, making them take their powers for granted which led to a chain reaction of the next generations being just as lax as their elders.

When people finally realized that they had gotten out of touch with their powers, it was already too late as now no one knew how to harness and use it for their improvement.

"A few generations earlier, a few tablets which held information about our history were discovered by excavators." Marquess Samed took over as this was under his jurisdiction as it dealt with history.

These stone tablets held a few details about the powers bestowed by the gods.

The King and his fellow ministers were lucky enough to gain a few further details about the powers.

"With this discovery, we were able to try to harness those powers just by a small percentage." He sighed at this sad truth.

Due to the laziness of a few people, they had lost this great opportunity of using the powers of the gods.

Though, even if they wished to utilize those powers now it was not possible as the Kingdom had progressed a long way away from the first generation.

"Now, the powers in our noble blood are very weak and have no supernatural powers like our forefathers." Sullivan revealed with a shake of his head.

Two aspects had declined the power in their bloodline.

The first was the fact that with each generation the powers got diluted thus weakening it for the descendants and the second was their inability to access and harness the limited powers due to lack of knowledge.

"Marquess, where are these tablets?" Yvonne posed her question while the silver-haired tutor was sighing at the poor luck of their Kingdom in this regard.

However, before Marquess Samed could answer her someone else had done so.

"In the Royal Library of the King's Palace." Damien answered while looking at the Marquess.

Sullivan smiled at the boy who seemed knowledgeable and gave him a nod of approval at his correct answer.

'He seems to know a lot about this…' The little girl set her suspicious gaze on him without any fear.

This confidence had arisen in her when she noticed that he was avoiding her eyes just as she had done earlier.

"That's common knowledge so only a fool wouldn't know about it, isn't it Marquess?" Damien added to prove the authenticity of his statement.
