Chapter 200 - Agree To Our Demands
Rutherford stopped taking sly glimpses of his child when he heard what the Baron had to say.
Ever since last evening where he had experienced that subtle change in his child, he had chalked that out to be a figment of his imagination.
A misconception which was demystified at this moment she had given off the same air of authority that she had done with him previously.
'Vonna looks so stern and unlike herself.' He remarked when he had seen how she was sitting with her back straight and her palms laying flat on her lap.
Yvonne felt his gaze and turned towards him with a smile which was her go-to move.
The doubtful father smiled back and pushed all other thoughts away from his mind as he had a goal to achieve for his daughter's sake.
"So the Baron is willing to sign off a portion of his profits?" He interrogated and received an urgent and immediate nod indicating a positive response.
Rutherford was glad that he did not have much work to do in trying to convince him which was a relief.
If he got into his work mode then it might be frightening for his child and Marquess who had never seen the scary side of him.
A very small part of why Baron MacIntyre had agreed without much hassle was also this scary side that he had come in contact with a few times during business deals.
"My daughter had helped your cafe improve its desert which means that she was the one who created an idea which you find useful and profitable." Earl reminded the man about what his Vonna had done.
Baron did not stop nodding as he wished to hurry this process along as he was already running short of time.
"Due to her aid, you will be able to earn profits of which we have a right to ask for a portion." He continued and the nods also continued.
"If you sign the agreement today you are bound by the law of this Kingdom and any kind of discrepancies will not be tolerated." He concluded his speech which was a mandate before signing any agreement.
"I am aware of the same." Baron accepted as he sat at the edge of his seat.
'Desperate much?' Yvonne sneered at his actions which were reeking with haste.
"Can we discuss the profit percentage which will be shared among us for using this recipe?" Baron prodded the aspect which was most important to him.
'Still going on about that money?' The little girl shook her head as she knew that his top priority was where his money laid.
She then glanced up and nodded at her father as though she was giving him the green signal to move to the next step that they had planned last evening.
Rutherford was amused after taking in her action but was quick to revert to the passive and indifferent face which a businessman should keep during such crucial times.
"We shall get 30% of all profits you make from selling this recipe." He announced which dropped the plump man's jaw.
He had come over expecting the margin to be somewhere between 5 or 10 but the number he received was much higher than that.
"But, Earl…" He objected with an imploring voice which showed that he was not satisfied with the number.
Rutherford also shared the same views as him but he was bound by the vow he made to his daughter.
Hence he did not budge when he saw the pitiful face of the man who was unwilling to part with his money.
'It is only 30% of one item! I do not get why he is making such a big deal out of it.' The little girl was scowling inwardly as she narrowed her eyes at him.
"So Baron wishes to use my hard work and not reward me?" She repeated the same words she had used to bring Rutherford onto her side.
Baron was worried that his reputation before the Earl and Marquess would be ruined if he denied that she had any hand in this matter.
"But 30?" He was stuck in a loop as this was a pill hard for him to swallow.
Yvonne knew that she would have to bring the big guns out for this stingy man.
"Baron's cafe will surely gain fame and prominence if he is selected to cater for the Princess' birthday celebration." She exclaimed as a wide smile appeared on her face.
This information was the reason why he was so worried and also in a hurry to sign the agreement.
"So 30% of one dessert does outweigh the profit gained on every single dessert sold in your cafe." She lured him into the greed that she had noticed on his face earlier.
Marquess Samed was impressed to see how she had turned the reluctance on the man's face into a desire to want more.
"Miss Yvonne is right!" Baron spoke up once he was convinced that she was speaking the truth as the overall profit outweighed the meager one he would have to part with.
'That's it!' The child cheered as she was now sure that he would not make a fuss any longer.
"We need to make up a contract as soon as possible as I have places to be." Baron wiped the sweat off his face as he urged the Earl.
'Hurry to go somewhere?' She smirked and lowered her head to hide it.
Rutherford was not bothered with his anxious words and glanced at his butler who stood by the door.
Butler Limo fetched the agreement papers that he had brought along and handed it to his master and bowed before moving back to the same position as earlier.
"Sign here and you can use the recipe any time as long as the profit comes over to my house." Rutherford declared while stretching his hand out for the other man.
Baron moved with the speed which was contrary to his heavy body as he received the agreement which the Earl was kind enough to draft for him.
Reading through each line to ensure that he was not being fooled by these people, the man frowned when he reached the last line written on the long and wide paper.
Confusion and suspicion were apparent in his eyes as he looked up from the agreement paper to the pair of St. Claire's who were watching his every move.
"This has 30% written in it already…" He muttered as his finger pointed at the place where the number was mentioned.
They had just come to a consensus about the percentage of profit that they would share so how could the agreement which the Butler was holding until now have the same number that they had just agreed upon?
Rutherford and Yvonne shared a smile before they turned towards the man who was trying to figure what had just happened.
"We were sure that you would agree to our demands hence we took the initiative to make an agreement prior to our meeting." The Earl explained which brought the light of understanding that brightened the other man's face.
Yvonne nodded in agreement to her father's words and then added some of her own in the mix.
"Baron would have agreed to it even if we had demanded for more than 30%, isn't that right?" She giggled as she quizzed him.
'Though he would have made a bigger fuss before eventually agreeing to it in a begrudging manner.' She speculated that this would have happened if she had been just as greedy as him and asked for more.
A sheepish smile appeared on Baron MacIntyre's face after hearing her accurate words.
