Chapter 198 - Pulled Ranks
"Did you just use my name and status to avoid meeting the Baron ahead of the scheduled time?" Marquess Samed inquired with an intrigued expression on his face.
'Of course, I pulled ranks on that man.' She scowled but did not let her thoughts out.
He had been the silent spectator of how she had sent her maid away with a few simple words.
Though her words made sense, it was undeniable that she had rejected the Baron who had arrived at her doorstep as per her invitation.
"Baron MacIntyre is here before the predestined time. Is that how a noble should behave?" Her self-righteous words made the Marquess chortle out loud.
'Not only did she reject the Baron she even used my status to ensure that he does not use this incident against her in the eyes of the other nobles.' He deduced how cunning her little scheme was.
She managed to put the man in his place and also threatened him that he better not try to sully her image by spreading rumors of her haughty behavior.
Baron MacIntyre could not meet her when he wanted to and at the same time, he could not walk out of the mansion to express his dissatisfaction.
The reason for this was the Marquess, a man from a higher status whose prestige and feelings would be offended if he made such a move.
Yvonne smirked when she thought of how the plans she had made were working out in her favor.
'I knew that he would arrive earlier since he has a deadline to meet.' She praised her wit and foresight which made these possible.
She was sure that once the King knew of his daughter's desire then he would try to fulfill it.
This confidence came from the script in which he was the same doting father until the day he died.
Now that the King also knew about Yvonne's involvement in this situation, there was no way that Baron MacIntyre could take up the responsibility of catering for the event which was fast approaching.
'He needs my permission to do so.' She snickered as any other step would be breaking the law of the land.
"Let us continue with our class, Marquess." She interrupted the man's thoughts as she urged him to carry on with the lesson that he was teaching her.
She was in no rush to meet the Baron and the leisure she felt was seen on her face as well.
Yvonne had him right where she wanted him to be, waiting in the parlor, with his anxious thoughts of his future meetings with the King of the land.
Therefore, she tossed all thoughts about the man aside as she focussed her attention on what Marquess Samed had begun to teach.
___
In the study room,
"Master, the Baron has been escorted to the Parlor while he awaits the Young Miss' arrival." Butler Limo informed his master about what he had done.
Rutherford nodded while he continued to read the papers which were placed on his table.
"Let me know when Vonna comes over. We shall meet the Baron together." He instructed the older man what to do next.
Accepting the commands of the Earl, Butler Limo bowed and made his prompt exit.
Rutherford was not too surprised and neither was he worried that he was being rude by not going to greet the nobleman who had appeared at his home.
Things were moving just as his daughter had told him that they would.
The Baron was here ahead of schedule and this was the biggest proof he needed to strengthen his trust in her words.
She had explained his plan to him in great detail while they drafted the agreement, hence he was sure of what to do next.
'Baron MacIntyre can stay in the Parlor until Vonna completes her class.' He shrugged and went back to making sure that the papers before him, the agreement was drafted to perfection.
____
Inside the Parlor of the St. Claire's mansion,
Butler Limo placed the various treats that their chefs had prepared onto the table before the man with a protruding stomach.
The Baron tapped his fist on his knee, a sign of his anxiety and nervousness as he gazed at the treats on the table.
Putting away the desire to taste them, he lifted his gaze to the sturdy and handsome man who was dressed in a Butler's uniform.
'He is a class apart from my butler.' He compared and it was clear that this round, the Earl had won.
Butler Limo was a diligent worker whose complete and undying loyalty laid with his master so he was considered to be quite a catch in the social circles.
Baron Quinn MacIntyre was also one of the men who wished for such a servant who would do anything that his master wishes.
'I can feel his covetous eyes….' Butler Limo pressed down the indignation in his heart and cleared his throat.
He had just left the Master's study and had come over here to explain the situation to this man.
"My Master expresses his apologies but the Young Miss cannot meet you right now." He expressed his humble apology while giving the reason for the same.
The soothing voice which uttered the disheartening words made the Baron's head spin.
He sat up straight and widened his eyes as he stared at the man who bowed his head a little to prove that he was apologetic.
"Miss St. Claire was the one who invited me over and now she refused to meet me? Is this what she has been taught?" He raged while clenching his fists into balls.
The Butler was expecting this reaction as it was common for a noble to feel entitled and wronged when they do not receive what they wish for.
"There seems to have been a misunderstanding here." He spoke up with the same calm tone.
Baron raised his brows as he waited for what kind of justification could be given for this kind of unbecoming behavior from a noble child.
Butler Limo did not appreciate the mockery in the eyes of the man who sat on the couch.
"Young Miss had informed us that the Baron would arrive at noon and stay for lunch." He retold the same words which Yvonne had said to this man.
The nod he received indicated that those words were in fact the truth.
"Yes, however my work with Miss St. Claire requires a certain urgency." Baron MacIntyre stuck to his desire of meeting her ahead of their scheduled time.
"I don't think that it would be possible." Butler Limo rejected straight away as per the orders given to him by his master.
At first, he had been made to wait in this room with the Butler and now he is being refused. This did not sit well with the man who was already worried about the future of his cafe.
"Why is that so?" He spat out in an irked manner with his bloodshot eyes narrowing close together.
"Miss has a class with Marquess Samed and cannot leave it ahead of time." The old Butler revealed without any hesitation.
The bomb which was dropped on him was enough to make the nobleman seal his lips.
'Why does it look like every higher noble is out to get me!?' He lamented his pitiable state and wiped the sweat off his forehead.
"I shall wait." He muttered, accepting defeat as there was no way that he could ask a Marquess to give way for him.
