Chapter 194 - Drinks For A Special Occasion
The man who was the main character of the promise that King Ophire's steward had taken was right now drinking as he celebrated the special occasion that had taken place at the cafe.
The timid butler of the MacIntyre family bowed down as he served more wine to the man who was gulping everything down the moment the glass was refilled.
"The Royal Steward did not complain even when we delivered the desserts later than the expected time." He laughed merrily as he swirled the glass in his hand.
The light fell onto the dark liquid which was sloshing around inside the glass, creating a beautiful and mesmerizing scene for the drunk man to lose his thoughts in.
Poor butler waited for the man to continue his words but the Baron would not stop swirling the glass as the liquid dancing inside the transparent glass had taken all of his attention.
Ever since he had arrived at home from the cafe, he had eaten his fill and began this episode of heavy drinking as his heart was glad and he needed a way to enjoy this pleasant mood.
Therefore, he brought out the good wine that he had been storing up in the cellar for special occasions.
'What better occasion than to have a chance of feeding the Royal Family the treats that are baked by my servants?' He roared in laughter after this thought came to his mind.
Frightened by the sudden burst of joyous laughter, the hand of the man holding the bottle of wine shivered before he managed to steady himself.
"I have to wait for the King's summons and then my cafe will become famous!" He finally spoke after his long silence.
Baron Quinn MacIntyre lifted his hand higher, indicating that his glass needed to be refilled which the butler was quick to comprehend.
Once again, the liquid was thrown down the drunk man's throat who was so used to drinking that he did not wince upon being assaulted by the bitter aftertaste of the fermented grape drink.
"More!" Drunken demands were heard in the parlor of the MacIntyre Mansion in the dark of the night.
The bottle in the butler's hand had come to an end as the last drops of the wine fell into the glass one after another.
This was the signal for the butler to bring his master back to his chambers.
He watched the man finish his glass and as though they were used to the routine that they had created for themselves, the master stretched out his hand.
The pair moved in tacit understanding as the butler supported the obese man back to his room.
Since the Madam must be asleep inside the room already, Baron was escorted only to the door of his bedchambers and he would have to figure things out on his own from here onwards.
The butler bowed down as he watched the man stumble into his room and shut the door in his face.
He hoped that his master would be alright the next morning as he headed towards the servant quarters where he had his assigned room.
Inside the room, Baron MacIntyre changed out of his clothes with the same unsteady steps that he had used to make his way inside.
He tried to remain as silent as possible but one could not expect great things and have high hopes from a man drunk on wine.
His clumsiness soon aroused the Baroness from her sleep as she sat up and watched her husband struggle as he climbed onto their marital bed.
"Are you alright, Lord?" She inquired as she held his arm while he sat with his back resting against the bed's back support.
Baron MacIntyre smiled upon hearing the sweet voice of his wife, similar to the sugary delights that were sold in his cafe.
He nodded in answer and scooted down to lay on the bed to get some much-needed rest.
Just as he had closed his heavy eyelids to catch some shut-eye, he heard this wife whisper in his ear.
Her sleep had been disturbed due to his actions and now it would take her some time to return to the pleasant dream that she had been in until she was yanked out of it.
This made the woman feel the need to converse with her husband for a while to pass the time.
"What did the Earl want from you, Lord?" She whispered her question right in his ear.
The drowsy man who had utilized the aid of liquor was now falling asleep at a faster pace than usual.
"It wasn't the Earl but his daughter…" He mumbled in his drunken state to curb her curious mind.
However, his statement had done the opposite of what he had expected since the Baroness was more interested to hear why a mere child had called for her husband.
'Why is that so-" Baroness attempted to investigate further but was forced to stop before she could finish the sentence.
The cause of this abrupt halt in her words was the soft snores that she had heard coming from the man who laid next to her.
Not brave enough to disturb his sleep, all she could do was gaze at the stars twinkling outside her bedroom window and try to placate her curious heart.
Her intrigued heart was calmed after staring at the serene view of the starry night sky of Amarthea, pulling her back into the arms of the sleep that she had been rudely awakened from earlier.
The MacIntyre couple both snored away into the night and did not slip out of their heavy sleep until it was bright and early the next morning.
Baroness woke up before her husband could as this was the norm in this household and rushed to the adjacent room to finish her morning routine with her maids in tow.
The man sleeping on the bed was not disturbed as they exited the room to move to a different location soon after the Madam had stepped outside the bath.
The Madam had to survey the house and make sure that everything was in order for when the Baron woke up.
While she was instructing the chef on what to prepare for breakfast today, the butler came rushing into the kitchen.
The Baroness was stunned to see the calm and slightly timid butler huffing and puffing as he tried to catch his breath.
"Madam… Madam… Master…" He repeated as he was short of breath due to the hasty arrival to this place.
A bad premonition struck the lady when she heard the anxiety in Butler's voice coupled with the words he was repeating over and over again.
"What is it?" She snarled to get him to speak up which he immediately did.
The answer she heard made her eyes widen as she rushed towards her bedchambers where her husband still laid.
Bursting into the room without knocking or waiting for permission, the Baroness and Butler hurried to the bed.
"Lord!" She called out in a loud voice as she knew that last night's wine would cause her husband to not wake up that easily.
Shaking his shoulder, she managed to get the man's eyelids to flutter open as he groaned while clutching his aching head.
Before he could yell and reprimand the culprits who had disturbed him, he heard his wife's sweet voice which was not so sweet right now.
"The Royal Steward is waiting for you in the Parlor, my Lord!" She announced with worry and nervous haste evident in her voice.
The eyelids that snapped open displayed the red eyes, a result of the excessive drinking that the Baron had partaken in last night as he shot up in bed.
