Chapter 170 - I Am Exceedingly Adorable
Raylene continued to observe her daughter who sat along with the new friends she had made at a table on the other side of the store.
Since there weren't many people inside the store today, the worried mother was happy that she had the perfect view of her daughter from where she sat.
'I am sure that Vonny will be fine since she is with Marquess Kiron and Duke Brodie's daughters.' She surmised in an attempt to placate her troubled heart.
The maids that stood at the side was a reassurance to Raylene that the girls would be fine even without her presence.
After all, these were precious daughters of the higher noble families.
However, the constant glimpses she took at the table that the three girls sat at indicated that she could not let the fear of losing her daughter away from her mind.
The fright she had received in Madam Norma's store was a lesson for her and she had vowed that she would never take her eyes off of Yvonne when they were outside their estate.
Now that she was watching her daughter who could be found by just looking in that direction, she decided to eat something to fill her hungry stomach.
The desserts in this store looked appetizing enough to make her drool so she did not waste much time before glimpsing at the maid who stood by the table.
Paula was quick to understand what her Mistress wished for her to do and in return, she glanced at the server who worked in the store.
While Raylene was giving out her orders of what she desired to eat from the delicacies placed on the shelves, the three girls at the other table were sitting in silence.
Yvonne sat still with her heart thumping so loud that she was sure that her neighbor, Rika Kiron could hear it.
'Can she stop staring at me as though I am the sole person alive on this planet… Or whatever this place is!' She cried out thanks to the fierce eyes which remained on her ever since they had arrived at this table.
Ever since she was thrown into this lioness named Glennise Brodie's den by her mother, Yvonne had been trying to pretend to be a background character rather than a person who deserved any attention.
Sadly, even when she had yet to speak a single word from the moment they had arrived and taken their seat at this table, the only daughter of the Duke could not stop staring at her.
Yvonne could only turn her eyes towards Rika who was also in an awkward position due to the weird behavior of her fellow playmate.
'Miss Glennise said that she was not mad at Yvonne then why does she keep gazing at her with such narrowed and dangerous eyes?' The youngest child from Marquess Kiron's family doubted the authenticity of the words that she had heard earlier.
Glennise on the other hand was truly not mad at Yvonne for leaving them midway and entering the cafe, instead, she was trying to gauge what the true color of this little girl's hair was.
Every few seconds, she would glance up and try to discern what that shade of her hair should be named.
'Why does her hair change colors with each passing second?' She gritted her teeth as she was not able to ascertain the correct answer that needed to be given to Prince Fritzen when she returned to the Palace.
The 'One last look' that she had thought to herself before she followed Yvonne and her mother into the store was in regard to the color of the girl's hair which was now causing her an ache in the head.
Yvonne's hair was a glossy violet but it had the ability to reflect and absorb the type of light that fell upon it.
Thus her hair would differ in shades depending on where she was and this aspect was making things difficult for Glennise who was trying to come to find the perfect answer.
The little girl was not oblivious to the steady gaze fixed on her face which was making her have unnecessary thoughts in her mind.
'Is my pretty face attracting her?' Yvonne wondered as she tried to minimize her presence but to no avail.
This made the little girl's suspicions that her beauty had betrayed her once again and had caught the eye of the Villainess whom she was supposed to stay away from.
'In the future, Glennise will try to destroy Hilda's beauty which had attracted that pig Prince's attention.' She recalled and this made her compare their beauty.
If Hilda was the gentle flower that needed to be protected then Glennise would be the fierce and thorny rose that knew how to keep herself safe.
This was also one of the reasons why she had failed to attain Fritzen's affections.
'That man wanted someone to depend on him, someone who was frail and submissive while Glennise was taught to be proud and competent by Governess Bloom from a young age.' Yvonne was now lost in the thoughts of the script that she had read.
Glennise's self-sufficient and head-strong ways as she tried her best to stick closer to her loved one did not work out in her favor for two reasons.
The first reason being the Prince already had borne feelings of affection and want for the little girl who had saved his life.
'He was trying his best to find the one who had saved him to pay the debt of his life that she had gifted.' She recalled with a roll of the eye.
However, as far as she remembered the plot, Hilda and her parents had moved away to a different fief which had made things difficult for him.
Therefore, Yvonne was still under the impression that Fritzen was trying to find Hilda when in truth, he was now trying to find out the identity of the 'black-haired foul-mouthed' girl who had infuriated him.
The only feelings he had were of anger and animosity towards the child who had called him a 'Pig' as she pulled him out of the stream.
As Yvonne was unaware of the changes that she had caused, she continued thinking of how the story would turn out in the future.
The second reason why Prince Fritzen had never looked at Glennise as a person of interest was his sister, Princess Felicia.
She was his little sister's friend and he had never looked at her in that light.
This divide that was already present in his mind in addition to the entrance of the beautiful female lead caused him to be thoroughly infatuated with her and toss any thoughts regarding Glennise out of his mind.
'I may not be as pretty as the girl favored by that Blue bird who won at life in this world but you can't deny that I am exceedingly adorable which gives me an advantage over these girls.' She boasted as she cupped her chubby cheeks which bulged like that of a hamster.
"What should we order?" Rika spoke up to break this awkward and moderately creepy atmosphere that had taken over their table.
