Three Systems Made the Fake Heiress Unstoppable
Chapter 180: Indifferent Chloe York
Chapter 180: Chapter 180: Indifferent Chloe York
"Yes, ma’am!" The bodyguards pinned the man down and hauled him away.
Willow Kane withdrew her gaze, looked at Chloe York, and gave a formal self-introduction. "Let me properly introduce myself. I’m Willow Kane, Adrian’s sister and Nora’s mother!"
Willow smiled warmly and elegantly. Chloe had no choice but to introduce herself in return. "I’m Chloe York. I’ve met Nora a few times."
She didn’t mention Adrian at all, only Nora, clearly wanting nothing to do with him.
Though she maintained a polite smile, she felt a wave of helplessness and couldn’t help but fiercely complain to the Godly Rich System in her mind, "System, oh System, can you make the people I save be a little further away from the main cast? I really don’t want to be involved with Adrian Kane."
The Godly Rich System’s voice carried a hint of grievance and helplessness. "Host, there’s nothing I can do! Missions are triggered randomly. I want to change things according to your wishes too, but I really don’t get to decide this."
Hearing this, Chloe silently shut her mouth.
Fine, consider it her bad luck. She couldn’t hide, and she couldn’t run away. The more she wanted to avoid them, the more she ran straight into them. What left her speechless was that most of the people she saved and helped seemed to be connected to Adrian. He was the person she hated the most, yet she ended up helping his side the most.
Seeing Chloe stand there in a daze without speaking for a while, Willow didn’t find her rude. On the contrary, she secretly nodded in approval, thinking, "As expected of the woman Adrian fancies. She’s composed, calm, and doesn’t try to curry favor at all."
If it were anyone else, the moment they heard she was from the Kane family, they would have already rushed over to kiss up and build a connection. But Chloe just stood there quietly, showing no intention of flattering her, and even spoke in a perfectly measured manner.
"York?" Seeing Chloe spacing out for too long, Willow called out softly.
Chloe suddenly snapped back to reality. She had been so impatient just now that she had completely ignored the woman. "Sorry, I zoned out for a moment."
"It’s alright," Willow smiled gently. "You are my benefactor, after all. But York, your combat skills are amazing! You were so badass; even my bodyguards probably can’t compare to you!"
Just now, seeing the way Chloe subdued the man, it was obvious she had professional training.
"You flatter me, Miss Kane. I just go to the gym occasionally; how could I possibly compare to your hired bodyguards? Since the matter is resolved, I should get going..."
Though she trailed off, her meaning was crystal clear: she wanted to leave.
There was no way Willow couldn’t tell that Chloe wanted to go. She quickly took a step forward and spoke sincerely, "York, you’ve done me such a huge favor; I really must thank you properly. Why don’t we exchange contact information? I can treat you to a meal another day or send you a gift. Otherwise, I’ll feel truly guilty."
Chloe’s heart skipped a beat. She thought, "Leave my contact information? Wouldn’t it be even harder to shake them off later? What if Adrian finds out and comes knocking on my door?"
She shook her head almost instantly, her tone firm. "There’s no need for that, Miss Kane. I only did what anyone should do, and it’s already been taken care of. No thanks are necessary. I still have things to do, so I’ll take my leave now."
With that, she turned to leave.
"Chloe!"
A soft, crisp, and childish voice suddenly stopped her in her tracks.
Hearing that Chloe was about to leave, Nora couldn’t bear to let her go. "Chloe, don’t leave~ Nora still wants to play with you for a bit longer~"
Hearing Nora’s coquettish pleas, Chloe’s heart softened. She never had any resistance against children, especially one as cute and clingy as Nora. However, she thought of Adrian. If she continued to associate with Willow, that shameless man might glue himself to her again. She absolutely didn’t want that, so she had to steel her heart against the little girl.
Chloe squatted down and softened her voice. "Be a good girl, Nora. I really have things to do today and can’t stay to play with you."
"Then when can I see you again?" Nora’s small hands gripped her clothes tightly, refusing to let go. "Nora wants to play with you, wants you to tell me stories, wants to take pictures with you..."
"Next time, okay?" Chloe patiently coaxed her. "When I’m free, I’ll play with you again. When I have time, I can play with you for much longer. That way, Nora will be even happier, right?"
"Then pinky promise!" Nora immediately held out her pinky finger, as if afraid Chloe would go back on her word.
Helpless, Chloe could only hook her pinky around the little girl’s to seal the promise.
Willow stood by and watched. This was her first time seeing Nora and Chloe interact. She knew Nora liked this Chloe York, but she didn’t expect her to like her this much. And she could tell that Chloe genuinely adored Nora too; it wasn’t an act.
Of course, she could also see that Chloe truly did not want too much involvement with them.
"York, look, you just promised Nora that you two would meet up and play next time. Even if you won’t leave your contact information, could you at least tell me where we can find you next time? Will that work?"
Chloe stood up. "That’s really not necessary. Nora and I have quite a bit of fate between us, seeing how often we run into each other. The next time we bump into each other, we can play together. Isn’t that right, Nora?"
Nora nodded emphatically.
Seeing her daughter nod, Willow felt a bit exasperated. She thought, "Silly girl, without contact information, we can only rely on sheer luck to bump into her, yet you’re nodding."
Pleased with Nora’s understanding, Chloe rubbed the little girl’s head. "Goodbye, Nora. I’m leaving now."
With that, not giving the two a chance to speak again, Chloe turned and walked away.
Watching her retreating figure, Willow chuckled softly and looked down at Nora, who was still staring fixedly at Chloe’s back. "Look at your Chloe. She’s got quite a personality."
Nora pouted her little mouth. "Mommy, I like Chloe. I want to play with her again."
"There will be chances." Willow patted her daughter’s head, her gaze shifting back toward the direction where Chloe had disappeared.
Remembering something, Willow pulled out her phone and gave Adrian a call. At the moment, Adrian was handling business at the company. After receiving Willow’s call, he agreed to meet her in two days at the café across from his office.
Two days passed in a flash.
Adrian and Willow met up as planned.
"Willow, what did you need to see me about?"
The café was relatively quiet. Willow looked at her younger brother, Adrian, as he took a seat across from her.
"I asked you out today to make one thing clear: you better rein in your feelings for Chloe York while you still can. Trying to woo her is going to be too difficult."
Hearing this, Adrian’s fingers tightened slightly around his coffee cup. He lifted his eyes to look at Willow. "You’ve interacted with her? What happened when you two met, and why would you say that?"
Willow recounted how Chloe had helped her catch a man secretly taking photos of her.
Although Chloe had stepped in to help, Willow could feel that the moment Chloe found out she was Adrian’s sister, her attitude had grown noticeably colder.
