Three Systems Made the Fake Heiress Unstoppable
Chapter 175: Invitation to Join the Student Council
Chapter 175: Chapter 175: Invitation to Join the Student Council
Brooke York’s eyes lit up. "Really?"
Dottie: [Yes!]
"That’s great. I can’t wait for you to unlock more functions." Brooke York’s voice was filled with anticipation. If Dottie kept unlocking more features, she could completely crush Chloe York and keep her down for good.
Dottie: [Of course, Host.]
Once Chloe York was a safe distance away, she made sure no one was around before sitting on a nearby bench, trying her best to calm down.
If anyone else had suspected she had a system, she wouldn’t have cared much. But this was Brooke York, the one who was best at stirring up trouble.
Brooke would very likely spread the news.
She wasn’t afraid of other things, but this was a different story. It was the kind of thing that could get her labeled a freak and sent away for research.
She didn’t even have to think about it to know. Brooke York must have read novels or something and knew about the existence of systems. What she hadn’t expected was for Brooke to connect the dots so well and guess that she had one.
’Looks like I’ll have to be more careful from now on.’
She pulled out her phone and glanced at it. She had a class to attend and couldn’t let this affect her. She stood up and headed to her lecture hall.
The York Residence
"What do you think you’re doing, making a mess of the house like this?"
Miles York, just back from a business trip, came home to find the house plastered with talismans by Alice Cole, making it look utterly ridiculous.
A surge of anger flared up in him. He was out there working himself to death, negotiating deals, and she was just at home fooling around, not helping in the slightest.
Hearing his voice, Alice Cole stopped what she was doing. She turned to see Miles York’s grim expression. "Oh, you’re back. What could I possibly be doing? I just suspect something unclean has gotten into the house. I’m just warding off evil, that’s all."
"Unclean things?"
"Yes. I think something unclean must have gotten into the house recently, so I bought these things to ward it off."
"Nonsense!" Miles York had no desire to engage with the neurotic Alice Cole. In his opinion, she was more like an "unclean thing" than anything else. He spat out the word and went straight upstairs.
The moment he was upstairs, Alice Cole’s face fell. "What’s with that look? Ungrateful. I’m doing this for the sake of our family."
Done complaining, Alice Cole went back to hanging garlic around the house. She wouldn’t let any unclean thing harm her and Brooke, no matter what.
After class, Chloe York and Wendy Winters were walking across campus, on their way to the cafeteria.
After the mental reset of a full lecture, she felt completely calm now.
’As for what Brooke York said, all I have to do is deny it, no matter what.’
Besides, who could prove she had a system? They had no way of proving it.
"Chloe, would you like to join our Student Council?" A group of smiling young men and women suddenly appeared in front of Chloe York and Wendy Winters.
Wendy Winters’s eyes lit up at the mention of the Student Council. She grabbed Chloe York’s arm and shook it, urging her to agree immediately.
"No, thanks!" Chloe York declined. She’d never had any interest in such organizations.
Previously, because she was a top scorer on the entrance exams, the university had told these groups that as long as she wasn’t interested, no club was to bother her.
So when she declined, the Student Council members didn’t press the issue.
"Alright, then! If you change your mind, you can always find us at the Student Council office on the 6th floor of the academic building." one of them said before they left.
"Okay!"
Once they were gone, Wendy turned to Chloe, exasperated. "Chloe, that was the Student Council! Joining them is almost like being one of the school’s administrators. You’d be in charge of so many things! How could you just refuse like that?"
So many students want to join the Student Council, but it’s not that easy to get in.
And now the Student Council was personally inviting Chloe York to join, yet she had refused. It was truly shocking to Wendy.
If the Student Council members had personally invited her, she would have considered delaying her acceptance by even a second a sign of disrespect.
"I feel like I’d rather spend that time on my own things. If I joined the Student Council, I’d probably have to go to meetings all the time or organize events. It just seems like a lot of trouble."
Chloe York didn’t like to waste her energy on such things.
She preferred to do things that yielded tangible results or significant benefits. The Student Council didn’t offer particularly great perks, so it didn’t really matter whether she joined or not. That was why she chose to pass.
"You have a point," Wendy Winters said, agreeing after hearing Chloe York’s explanation.
When she first started, she joined a club that held three meetings in a single day. She quit that same day. It was too much trouble, just too much to do.
If even she, someone with nothing better to do, found it troublesome, then it was no wonder a top scorer like Chloe York would feel the same. Chloe probably spent most of her time studying, so how could she possibly join the Student Council!
Hearing the lingering interest for the Student Council in Wendy Winters’s voice, Chloe York asked, "Do you want to join?"
Wendy Winters immediately shook her head like a toy drum. "No, no, no, I don’t want to. Besides, I know my own capabilities. The Student Council wouldn’t necessarily agree to have me."
"You should have a little more confidence. And joining the Student Council can be helpful for some jobs after graduation. It’s a bonus on your resume."
Chloe York remembered from her own job search that some employers actually listed it as a requirement.
Wendy Winters shook her head. "Forget it, I’m not cut out for it. The Student Council is for people like you. I mean, if you put in a word for me, I could probably get in, but... I don’t have the skills. I might just end up reflecting badly on you for recommending me. So, never mind!"
Wendy Winters wasn’t wrong. If Chloe York put in a word, the Student Council really would accept Wendy.
But it was also as Wendy had said: if she got in and messed something up, it would be Chloe York who would lose face.
Seeing that Wendy had truly given up on the idea, Chloe York didn’t press the topic any further.
"Come on, let’s go get lunch at the cafeteria!"
"Okay!"
Meanwhile, Brooke York had watched the entire scene of the Student Council inviting Chloe York to join.
Ever since starting at Southbend University, she had been keeping a constant watch on Chloe York. No matter what Chloe was doing, Brooke always seemed to be somewhere nearby.
In fact, after speaking with Dottie earlier, she had followed Chloe York to her classroom.
It was a good thing she had been following her. Otherwise, she never would have known that the Student Council had personally come to invite Chloe York to join.
’How can those people have such poor judgment?’ she fumed. ’She’s only so amazing because she has a system helping her, yet they’re treating her like some kind of treasure and inviting her to the Student Council.’
’If they’re going to invite anyone, it should be me! I’m the one who relies on my own strength.’
An idea suddenly striking her, Brooke York walked straight toward the group of students who had just invited Chloe York to join.
