Chapter 172: Chapter 172: A Never-Get-Drunk Skill?

Chloe York didn’t reply, just steadied her grip on him.

’To be honest, if the system hadn’t been offering her a reward, she really wouldn’t have rushed out to help him and take him to the infirmary like this.’

When they reached the infirmary, Chloe first helped Evan Shaw sit on the bench by the door, then pushed the door open to find the school nurse.

After Chloe helped Evan inside, the school nurse carefully examined Evan’s ankle. The nurse confirmed it was just a minor injury—a sprain—and breathed a sigh of relief. He then disinfected the wound and applied some medicine.

He had Chloe wrap the gauze for Evan, as there were other students in the infirmary needing attention.

Evan sat on the edge of the bed, his gaze filled with tenderness as he watched Chloe adjust the gauze for him.

"Chloe, thank you. Really," Evan said again, his tone sincere.

Chloe stopped what she was doing and looked up at him, her eyes curving into a smile. "Why be so formal with me? Isn’t it normal for friends to help each other out? Be more careful when you play basketball with Ethan Prescott in the future. Don’t be so reckless. No, actually, you just shouldn’t play basketball with him at all. Every time you play, you get hurt."

’Thinking of this, Chloe felt that Ethan Prescott really didn’t play fair.’

The first time, he had fallen too. This time, he just let Evan fall all by himself.

"Got it. I’ll be careful from now on. I won’t play with him. Even if he begs me, I won’t go."

Evan’s words made Chloe snort with laughter. "He begs you?"

"Yeah, he will. He begged me this time, too. Honestly, if he wants the title of Campus Prince, he can have it. I never said I was competing with him, but he insists on fighting me for it!" Evan said, a hint of resignation in his voice.

"He plays basketball with you just to fight over the Campus Prince title?" Chloe was shocked. Her opinion of Ethan Prescott had hit a new low.

’Was it really necessary, all for a title?’

"Yeah. It was the same in high school, and it’s the same now. In the end, there can only be one Campus Prince at a school."

Evan was saying this on purpose to make Chloe look down on Ethan Prescott even more. That way, he’d have less competition. Ethan would never be able to beat him.

"Well, he’s just being childish. It’s just a title. The students know who’s handsome. Do you really need to compete like this to decide?"

Evan heard the disdain in Chloe’s voice and was secretly delighted, but his face remained impassive. "That’s what I think, too."

"Forget it. Just try to avoid him from now on."

"Mhm!" Evan nodded obediently.

’Ethan Prescott, thank you. You were so cooperative today, handing me an opportunity on a silver platter!’

Evan thought to himself, the corners of his lips curling up discreetly.

Coming out of the infirmary, Chloe saw Wendy Winters waiting for her.

"Chloe, you and Campus Prince Shaw..." Wendy said as soon as she saw Chloe, but she trailed off, her expression particularly odd.

"Don’t get the wrong idea. There’s nothing between us." The moment Chloe saw Wendy’s look, she knew what her friend was thinking and hurriedly explained.

She pulled her away at the same time. ’How embarrassing would it be if Evan heard this!’

"Oh~? Nothing, you say? I haven’t even said anything yet!" Wendy let Chloe pull her along, her tone a little mischievous.

"Wendy, Evan and I really don’t have that kind of relationship," Chloe said in a serious tone.

’She was afraid people would get the wrong idea and rumors would spread. That would be a huge hassle.’

Wendy looked up at her, a faint, clearly disbelieving smile playing on her lips. "Mhm, I know. I’m just overthinking it, right? You and Evan are just friends. It’s just that your friend got hurt, so naturally you were worried and rushed over to help him right away. Is that it?"

"You don’t believe me at all, do you?" Chloe stopped in her tracks and looked at Wendy.

Wendy smiled. "I believe you!"

Chloe took a deep breath and explained, "Wendy, I’ll be completely honest. Evan and I are just normal friends, best friends, that’s all. It’s always been that way, from start to finish. I don’t have any other intentions. I helped him because we’re friends and were high school classmates. If it had been any other classmate today, I would’ve helped them too. Understand?"

Wendy could see the seriousness deep in Chloe’s eyes. "I’m not saying I don’t believe you. I just think you two look really good together."

Chloe froze at her words. She hadn’t expected Wendy to say something like that. A good match? Her and Evan?

’How could that be? No one had ever said anything like that to her before, that she looked good with someone. And she had never even thought about romantic relationships.’

"What do you mean, a good match? We’re really just friends," Chloe said helplessly.

At the same time, she wondered, ’If Wendy thought this way, would other people think so too?’

"Chloe, it’s not just me. Look, Evan is so handsome and smart, and his family background must be great too. And he’s so good to you! You have no idea, he’s so cold to everyone else, but he only smiles for you!"

She’d noticed it the day they all went to the movies together. Evan liked Chloe, and she felt they were a perfect match.

She looked at Chloe again. "And look at you, Chloe! You’re beautiful and smart, too. The two of you look like a couple. You’re such a good match. Seriously, why don’t you consider getting together with Evan?"

"Impossible. We’re just friends," Chloe refused without a hint of hesitation.

’She and Evan could only ever be friends. She had absolutely no romantic feelings for him.’

Seeing Chloe’s firm stance, Wendy asked about someone else. "What about Ethan Prescott, then?"

"That’s even more impossible." ’She’d rather become a nun than be with Ethan Prescott.’

"Oh, right. Ethan Prescott is still standing on the field," Wendy said, suddenly remembering what she’d overheard some students saying while she was waiting outside the infirmary.

Apparently, Ethan Prescott never left the field after they did. He’s just been standing there.

"What’s he doing standing on the field?" Chloe wondered.

"I don’t know! I just heard he was standing there. Apparently, some students tried to strike up a conversation with him, but he snapped at them!"

"Maybe he’s atoning," Chloe said. She figured Ethan Prescott must be feeling guilty.

Their classes for the day were already over, so the two of them chatted as they unknowingly walked to the school gate.

This was where they had to part ways. Wendy also lived off-campus, but her family was nearby, so she was heading home, while Chloe was going back to her own place.

Physical System: [Host, perform 30 squats a day for 6 consecutive days to be rewarded with immunity to alcohol.]

Just as she got back to her place, Chloe heard the Physical System issue her a mission.

"Immunity to alcohol? What do I need that reward for?" Chloe wondered.

’The other rewards were all pretty good, but immunity to alcohol? Is that even a reward?’
