Three Systems Made the Fake Heiress Unstoppable
Chapter 158: Alice Cole Persuades Brooke York
Chapter 158: Chapter 158: Alice Cole Persuades Brooke York
"But that’s for the best. He wasn’t good enough for you, and being siblings is a cleaner break. Now you have the Prescott Family backing you, so you can just live your life well and not worry about him."
After ranting about Ethan Prescott, Stella Winters immediately thought of the Yorks, and her tone turned cold. "Oh, by the way, Chloe, Brooke York must know you’ve become the Prescott Family’s goddaughter, right? I can picture it now—she must be hopping mad and green with envy!"
Chloe York lowered her gaze. Hearing Brooke York’s name still didn’t stir any emotion in her.
’She’s just a sore loser. Not even worth my time.’
Stella’s voice was full of vindicated satisfaction as she analyzed the situation in detail. "She’s definitely throwing a huge tantrum at home, grinding her teeth in hatred but completely helpless. After all, the Prescott Family’s power is undeniable. No matter how unwilling she is, she wouldn’t dare make a single move. She can only swallow her anger. Just thinking about how frustrated she must be feels so satisfying!"
"She’s always been arrogant, thinking she’s better than you in every way. Now you’ve effortlessly obtained everything she’s ever dreamed of. There’s no way she could be okay with that!"
"I’m telling you, she’s definitely losing sleep over this, jealous of your good fortune and hating her own incompetence. She might even try to sabotage you behind your back, so you have to be extra careful. Don’t let her get any dirt on you." Stella was completely focused on Chloe York’s well-being, warning her repeatedly, afraid that Brooke York might try to harm her in secret.
She had witnessed Brooke York’s schemes back in their senior year of high school. Chloe should have learned her lesson by now; she couldn’t give her another chance.
That’s why Stella was thrilled that Brooke York had suffered a setback this time, but she also had to make it clear to Chloe York. She didn’t want Chloe feeling sorry for them and falling into their trap again.
"I know how to handle her."
To her, Brooke York’s jealousy and anger were now irrelevant.
She had escaped the swamp that was the York Family and no longer cared about any of the Yorks’ feelings. Brooke York’s fuming was just a trivial interlude that couldn’t affect her in the slightest.
"Good." On the other end of the line, Stella Winters kept talking, one moment berating Ethan Prescott for being blind and missing out on a great woman, the next moment gloating about Brooke York’s jealous frustration.
She meticulously reminded Chloe York to take care of herself and be wary of the Yorks.
Her words flowed endlessly, filled with concern for her friend. Since she wasn’t by Chloe York’s side, all she could do was use her words to make her more cautious.
Meanwhile, Chloe York remained serene, leaning against the window and listening quietly as Stella Winters gave her advice, feeling her friend’s care and concern from across the ocean.
Because of this, Brooke York went back to the York Family estate and stopped going to school altogether. She holed up at home, refusing to even leave her room, and completely shut herself off.
She felt that if she went out, everyone would be laughing at her. She was supposed to be the true heiress, but now her engagement was broken. Meanwhile, Chloe York, the person she had always ridiculed, had become the Prescott Family’s goddaughter—their prized young lady.
How could she not be furious? How could others not be laughing at her?
While Brooke York’s room upstairs was quiet and suffocating, things downstairs weren’t much better.
"Look at this precious daughter you raised! She’s brought me nothing but shame!"
When Miles York learned that Brooke York had run straight home from school and was now just hiding in the house, he grew even more furious.
He’d already lost one daughter, and now the other was a total embarrassment. Neither of them gave him any peace of mind, and Brooke York was the biggest headache of all.
Because this was all Brooke York’s doing.
And because of the Prescott Group’s announcement, he had lost even more contracts.
He was stewing with a bellyful of anger. He had already blown up at the office, but it wasn’t enough, so he came home to vent some more.
Alice Cole didn’t want to talk to Miles York. Whenever their children were the topic, he always blamed her.
He never reflected on his own mistakes, only shifted the blame.
She stood up and went straight upstairs. Right now, her biggest concern was her daughter, not these trivial matters of profit and loss.
"Brooke, come on out. This isn’t such a big deal. We still have other chances, right? Chloe York becoming the Prescott Family’s goddaughter is just a title. Do you really think she’s their actual daughter now? They’re just using Chloe York!"
It seemed Brooke York had heard Alice Cole’s words. The door opened, and seeing her chance, Alice pushed it open and went inside.
The light in the bedroom was dim. Brooke York walked to her vanity and sat down, staring at her own gloomy face in the mirror, her expression ugly.
The news of the Prescott Family suddenly adopting Chloe York as their goddaughter was like a thorn in her heart. From the moment she heard it, she’d been filled with frustration and resentment. Why should all the glory that was supposed to be hers fall on Chloe York’s head?
Alice looked at her daughter’s sullen state and understood completely. She pulled Brooke York over to sit on the bed, her voice full of doting affection and sympathy. "My dear daughter, don’t frown like that. Look at how long your face is. It’s not worth ruining your health by being so angry."
Brooke York glanced up at her mother, her tone thick with grievance and indignation. "Mom, how can I not be angry? Do you know what kind of family the Prescotts are? Countless people are fighting tooth and nail to get close to them, but they just had to pick that girl, Chloe York, as their goddaughter! On what grounds? She’s just a nobody from a common background. Now that she has the Prescott Family’s favor, where does that leave me at school or in our social circle?"
As she spoke, her eyes reddened slightly, and the resentment in her heart intensified. "She was always stealing my spotlight before. Now that she has the Prescott Family backing her, won’t she just walk all over me? My chest feels tight just thinking about it."
Alice gently patted her daughter’s back, soothing her with a soft and patient voice. "I know you’re upset. Anyone in your position would feel a bit let down, Mom understands. But listen to me, don’t get worked up over this, and don’t be unhappy. We have to look at the bigger picture. This little thing is nothing."
"The Prescott Family taking her in as a goddaughter seems glorious on the surface, but who knows how long that glory will last? A wealthy family like the Prescotts always has its own reasons for doing things. Adopting a goddaughter is probably just a whim. Do you think they’ll really dote on her like their own flesh and blood? At the end of the day, she’s just an outsider they find novel for the time being."
Alice didn’t believe the Prescott Family would be so kind as to adopt a goddaughter with no connections to them whatsoever.
Brooke York pressed her lips together, her face still full of defiance. "But even as a goddaughter, she’s using the Prescott Family’s name to completely overshadow me. All my classmates are talking about her behind my back, and they’re all fawning over her. It’s so irritating to watch."
