This Life, I'm Raising the Right Man
Chapter 211: Announcement
After the students’ small gathering, everyone went back to their own homes, agreeing to meet again after the results were released.
There was still a month to go until the results. In a month, it would depend on whether any of their names appeared on the list to see who would be overjoyed and who would be distraught.
On the way back, Su Yaoguang noticed that Zhang Yingdi and her husband seemed overly tense, so she suggested they relax outside and return home when they felt calmer.
Su Yaoguang and Zhou Wangshu went back to Taoyao Square first.
Upon returning, Zhang Zhaodi and the others did not ask how Zhou Wangshu did on the exam. They first booked a table at Jiang’s Restaurant to welcome Su Yaoguang and Zhou Wangshu.
After everyone feasted, Su Yaoguang handed the orders to Zhang Zhaodi and the others and discussed the big contracts they needed to rush through soon.
"Sister Chun’e..." Su Yaoguang and Zhou Wangshu jogged back to Taoyao Square and saw someone squatting at the entrance. Thinking it might be a beggar, the person looked up, revealing a familiar face.
Zhang Zhaodi and the others had gone to the night market.
Chun E, with pale cheeks, smiled wearily, "I didn’t know where to go and unconsciously ended up here. I want to talk to you, Yaoguang."
Zhou Wangshu used the key to open the door. Su Yaoguang helped Chun E up and led her into the backyard of Taoyao Square.
Su Yaoguang noticed that Chun E was trembling the whole time.
Zhou Wangshu avoided them, leaving Su Yaoguang to bring Chun E into her bedroom.
Su Yaoguang poured tea, placed it in front of Chun E, and said, "I’ll get you something to eat."
"No need for trouble, I’m not hungry."
"It’s so late; how could you not be hungry? No matter what happens, health is most important. We can’t neglect ourselves."
Chun E held her hand and said tiredly, "I’m really not hungry. Yaoguang, just talk to me."
"Okay, I’m here. I’ll listen to whatever you want to say. If there’s anything you need my help with, just say it. As long as I can do it, I’ll give it my all."
"We haven’t known each other for long, but even you can open up to me like this. Why does that bastard have to deceive me?" Chun E embraced Su Yaoguang and burst into tears.
Chun E had run a Clothing Shop for years, enduring even in bad business years, showing her innate strength. But now, she was crying like a tearful child.
"Is your man treating you badly?"
"He has a woman outside, and they even had a child," Chun E said angrily, "this time, he brought them back, saying he wants to marry a second wife. He’s just a lowly escort master, earning barely enough each month to support one wife, yet he wants to support a second wife and even has an illegitimate child. Yaoguang, I really wanted to die at that moment. Why do this to me?"
Su Yaoguang knew Chun E hadn’t come to terms with this change yet. She was too shocked now; forcing comfort on her would only worsen her emotions.
She needed to cry it out.
Once she had cried enough and calmed down, she could think about what to do next.
Su Yaoguang served as a silent listener and waited for Chun E’s crying to subside before asking what she planned to do next.
The other party wanted to marry a second wife and even brought back an illegitimate child. She had two choices: accept them, watching the three of them live lovingly together while becoming an outsider herself. To that family, every cent they spent was earned by her. She would not only lose her husband but become the unpaid servant of those three. The second choice was to divorce. After enduring so much grievance and living like a widow for so many years, there was no reason to let him off easily. She must claim her share of his assets; henceforth, it would be nothing but a fair exchange of goods for money.
"Of course, divorce," Chun E said. "These years, he’s returned home less and less, and I haven’t been able to get any silver from him. I’ve been living alone for a long time. Now it’s just making it official."
"Since you’ve decided, why keep crying? Seeing you so upset, I was worried you’d do something foolish."
"When a man dies so thoroughly, of course, he deserves tears shed for him, so he can be buried in peace," Chun E said angrily. "By the way, help me figure out how much I can get from the assets?"
"That depends on how much property he holds," Su Yaoguang said. "I heard there’s an intelligence organization in our area that handles such investigations."
"Yaoguang, I just want to get more money now; I won’t expect anything else," Chun E said. "I was too foolish, should’ve found out earlier. I was deceiving myself, unwilling to face it."
That night, Su Yaoguang was constantly comforting Chun E. The next morning, when Zhang Zhaodi and others saw Chun E also there, they thought she had come to play with Su Yaoguang.
By this time, Chun E had wiped away her tears and returned to her usual graceful and poised self. Only her eyes remained a bit swollen from crying too much the previous day.
After breakfast at Taoyao Square, Chun E left.
Su Yaoguang found Zhou Wangshu and asked him, "Do you know Mingye Hall?"
Zhou Wangshu was chopping wood in the yard. Hearing Su Yaoguang’s words, his axe went slightly off course, almost hitting his foot.
Zhou Wangshu steadied the fallen wood, then brought the axe down again, splitting the wood in two.
"I’ve never heard of it. What is it?"
"I heard it’s an intelligence organization, from finding Aunt Zhang’s cat to providing the county government with murder suspect clues; they’re growing stronger, and many seek them out."
"Are you asking because of Boss Lady Chun’e’s situation?"
"We’ve come this far, and Boss Lady Chun’e has helped us a lot. Now she wants a divorce but doesn’t know the other party’s assets, so she wants to figure them out before deciding."
"I just happen to have a classmate who knows about Mingye Hall. I’ll ask him to see if we can get them to check this out."
"If it doesn’t work out, don’t push it; I can ask Cui Rong. He runs the Cui Family, and there are many shady characters within it. Cui Rong used to be quite naive, but suddenly matured a lot; there must be someone guiding him. Perhaps he knows some ways."
Zhou Wangshu: "..."
Relying on outsiders to find out about one’s own things?
"No need to ask Cui Rong; repaying favors is not easy," Zhou Wangshu said. "I happened to help that classmate before, and he owes me a favor. He can repay it this time."
"In that case, thank you, Little Zhouzi," Su Yaoguang patted his shoulder. "I can’t stay; I arranged to go to the workshop with Cui Rong. I’m running out of time, I must leave. You go back to the academy and study hard. Don’t get complacent; after the county exam, you’ll have to go to the Capital City."
A strange look flashed in Zhou Wangshu’s eyes.
Capital City...
Was he going back?
