This Is What a Villain Is Like

Chapter 233 - 105: Why Is Her Magical Power Out of Her Control? Preparations to Seize the Nest

With a light heart, Xie Jianjia felt no fatigue. She was just waiting to reach the Sword Sect before planning her escape. It wasn’t convenient to reveal her cultivation base at the moment, especially since the Observatory’s men were still outside.

After escaping safely, she would find a place to recover her cultivation and strength, and slowly return to her peak.

As for the Xie Family, she had little affection for them to begin with. She had been playing the role of Miss Xie for so long that she was sick of it, to say nothing of having to deal with that fool, Xiao Teng.

She had lived for so many years; she was sure she hadn’t committed any great sins in her past life.

As a member of the Demon Race, she had never done anything truly heinous. Yet, after being reborn through possession in this life, she was forced by the original body’s marriage contract to constantly play the part of a woman deeply in love with her fiancé.

To make matters worse, that Xiao Teng fellow loved to perform grand, self-satisfying gestures in an attempt to move her, which she found utterly revolting.

Though she was repulsed, she had no choice but to respond with a faint smile.

’Fortunately, this fool is useful in a pinch. Maybe I can make use of him again in the future...’

Xie Jianjia’s mood was light. The tension that had gripped her since her time in the Observatory yesterday finally eased, and waves of drowsiness washed over her.

’No one will likely disturb me if I take a nap in the Observatory’s prison cart.’

The green mountains were shrouded in mist, and the official road through the forest was clear.

The men from the Observatory cleared the way ahead, their banners fluttering in the wind. All cultivators and merchant caravans they passed moved aside to let them through.

"This is the road to the Canglan Sword Sect. My senses aren’t mistaken. Jian Jia must be in one of these prison carts."

"There doesn’t seem to be any danger for now, but I can’t relax my guard."

Atop a towering, leafy tree, Xiao Teng watched the scene unfold.

He was dressed in close-fitting black clothes, wearing a veiled hat and a black scarf that covered his face. Both were specially forged artifacts that could conceal his aura and true appearance.

Behind him, numerous other powerful auras lay concealed.

Following the convoy, Xiao Teng had already discovered the tracks of many others. Using his Pupil of Truth to investigate covertly, he also detected several rather overbearing auras sweeping through the area.

This meant that there were quite a few people secretly watching the convoy of prison carts.

It was a given that the Prime Minister’s Mansion had its eyes on Xie Jianjia, but his senses told him there were other factions lurking in the shadows as well.

’But besides the Prime Minister’s Mansion, what other factions would want to abduct Xie Jianjia?’

’Could it be the Royal Family?’

Xiao Teng stared intently ahead, various thoughts flashing through his mind.

Meanwhile, on another side, Song Youwei—her face hidden by a light veil and her features altered by a disguise—was also concealed in the shadows with her own people, waiting for the right moment to strike.

She had already learned from Jiang Lan that the Prime Minister’s Mansion would make a move. When they did, the men from the Observatory would retreat, but other factions would also seize the opportunity to strike.

A great battle would erupt.

Amid the chaos, all she needed to do was bide her time and be the one to profit from the conflict.

Night soon fell. The men from the Observatory didn’t continue on their way, instead choosing a relatively flat piece of ground nearby to rest for the night. They planned to continue their journey at dawn.

Bonfires were lit in the dim twilight, and the covers were removed from the prison carts, allowing the women inside to breathe in some fresh air.

BOOM!!!

But just then, a muffled boom suddenly echoed from the depths of the dense forest.

It was followed by a brilliant flash of light that exploded over the clearing, instantly spreading out into a massive cloud of mist.

"An ambush!"

Seeing this, one of the men from the Observatory suddenly bellowed.

Hearing the shout, the other Knights from the Observatory all drew their weapons, turning to face the direction the mist had come from.

The noise woke Xie Jianjia, who had been sleeping for the entire journey. She opened her eyes and saw what looked like figures flickering within the mist, about to charge in their direction.

’Such a brazen ambush?’

She mused internally, thinking that the Prime Minister’s Mansion was truly audacious.

’They’ve barely left the Imperial Capital Jingyang City, and they already can’t hold back. This is a blatant declaration to everyone that the Prime Minister’s Mansion is claiming me.’

’I thought the Prime Minister’s Mansion would wait, that they’d make their move when I was closer to the Canglan Sword Sect.’

The mist was thick and heavy, instantly shrouding the clearing and the surrounding mountains, blocking out even the moonlight.

Figure after figure charged out of the mist. There were members of the Human Race and the Alien Race among them, all gleaming with divine radiance. Their eyes burned like torches, glowing brightly.

High above, the clouds and mist churned, and within them, several overbearing auras seemed to stand, looking down on the scene below.

Xie Jianjia’s expression darkened. With just a casual glance, she noticed a considerable number of Fourth and Fifth Realm cultivators. It even seemed there was a Sixth Realm expert hiding in the shadows.

’Just how many experts did the Prime Minister’s Mansion dispatch to capture me?’

’Damn it...’

’The Observatory... they’ve been in cahoots with the Prime Minister’s Mansion all along.’

The next moment, Xie Jianjia’s expression changed once more, and she unconsciously clenched her fair hand into a fist.

Upon seeing the figures charge forward, the men from the Observatory paid them no mind. They simply changed direction and fled, showing absolutely no intention of protecting her.

So, Xie Jianjia could only watch as the figures emerging from the mist all rushed toward her prison cart.

"Miss..."

"What do we do?"

Seeing this, the women in the cart were terrified. Their faces turned deathly pale, drained of all color.

’Looks like in the end, I can only rely on myself.’
