Chapter 485
Beneath the blood-red canopy, even the air carried a faint metallic tang.
All blood-clan warriors simultaneously felt changes within their bodies.
Strength surged through their limbs; wounds healed at a visibly rapid rate; even their perception of 【Blood Manipulation】 became unprecedentedly sharp.
What thrilled them further was that the surrounding air seemed to teem with inexhaustible blood, as if the whole world had become their source of power.
A viscount of the blood clan who had been fleeing a moment ago suddenly stopped.
He raised a hand and clenched it in the air; the surrounding crimson mist instantly condensed into a dark-red spear, the tip aimed at the church werewolf who had been chasing him, a cruel smile spreading across his face.
The two were actually comparable in strength, but swept up in the tide of rout he had only been able to flee in humiliation when pressed by that werewolf.
Now the situation had changed: the emperor had personally arrived, the demons’ morale surged, and the blood veil’s reinforcement made this werewolf no longer so fearsome.
“Die, mangy fur!”
The blood spear shot out like a venomous snake, colliding with the werewolf’s swinging claw.
The expected sight of the spear piercing flesh did not occur.
In the violent impact, the wolf’s claw tore the skin and flesh, blood spraying, yet the blood spear was also smashed in half and dissolved back into a mist of blood.
In an instant the werewolf’s other claw had already swept across the blood-clan viscount’s neck.
The viscount lurched backward, narrowly avoiding the killing blow; only a few blooded gashes remained on his neck.
He staggered back, eyes wide in disbelief as he stared at the panting werewolf before him.
This beast… why does it feel stronger than before?
Not only that viscount was puzzled; the church warriors who had transformed into werewolves and were fighting the demons felt the same.
Though they did not possess the blood-clan’s innate affinity with the blood veil and thus lacked a perfect fit with 【鲜血操控】, they nonetheless felt a surge of power rise within, and their wounds healed much faster.
Not as comfortable in it as the blood clan, perhaps, but this sudden strengthening was still significant.
Other demon races, however, gained nothing; the blood-tainted air only made breathing more difficult for them.
Still, these surprises could not possibly reverse the course of the battle.
Mortis did not even glance at the ant-like clash beneath his feet.
His gaze fell on Valerius; his voice was calm but made the latter shiver: “The main army is nearly broken, and you were beheaded — it seems the situation truly warranted my personal intervention.”
Valerius bowed his head deeply. “Your servant was incompetent and failed Your Majesty’s trust.”
“Where are Xenophon and the others?”
Valerius kept his respectful posture and replied, “They are blocking the human reinforcements to the southeast.”
Mortis looked toward the southeast; his sight extended with the blood veil and found the other half of the army locked in fierce combat with puji.
His gaze returned and settled on Elvien.
“Human Sword Saint, kneel and swear fealty, or be erased.”
Elvien let out a light laugh, removing the short sword at his waist and tossing it to fifteen.
With Lunarshade now in hand, that short sword was useless and pointless to keep.
The Sword Saint twirled his blade; his somewhat disheveled long hair whipped in the blood-red gale. “Funny thing — in over fifty years of living, I’ve never bowed to anyone. I was too proud when I was young; nobody deserved to make me lower my head.”
“Now I’m old, my knees can’t bend easily, especially not for someone like you,” he paused, “big-winged fat rat!”
Before the words finished, Lunarshade suddenly slashed toward the half-kneeling Valerius.
The prince hastily condensed blood-bat shields to block, but found that the sword light seemed unsubstantial and lacked force.
It was a feint to hold him back!
By the time he reacted, Elvien’s figure had already leapt into midair.
【Treading the Moon LV10】
Silver moonlight under the Sword Saint’s feet tore a rift in the blood veil; the blade aimed straight for the figure on the blood throne!
Mortis watched the approaching blade with indifference. Just as the twin swords were about to pierce the brow, the moonlight beneath Elvien’s feet abruptly shattered.
“Then go die.”
The emperor snapped his fingers and a towering pillar of blood thundered down.
Elvien was slammed from midair into the ground; countless blood pillars followed.
The earth shook violently; even parts of Tri-Mountain City’s still-standing walls cracked under the tremor as rubble fell like rain.
When the last blood pillar dissipated, only a mound of dark-red crystal clusters remained where the Sword Saint had fallen.
Fifteen stared at the half-broken Lunarshade blade lodged at his feet, unable to believe such a powerful master could be defeated so swiftly!
“Church soldiers hold the rear; everyone else retreat into the city!” With the archbishop’s sorrowful command, the soldiers who had fallen from heaven into hell retreated toward Tri-Mountain City in disarray.
The werewolf-transformed church warriors howled and leapt at the demons trying to pursue.
At this point those werewolf warriors had little rationality left; with their potential awakened, they were burning their last reserves.
The emperor had no interest in the panicking humans below, not even in the archbishop of the Light Church.
The only one who could make him act was the Sword Saint.
The prince rose, swept two werewolves dry of blood with a gesture, and commanded the demon army to chase the dying humans.
The archbishop knew clearly that his actions were nothing but an ugly struggle.
Yet even the ugliest struggle was better than turning oneself over for slaughter.
…
Elsewhere.
A stray arrow off course skimmed over the demon and puji corpses and softly struck the rock armor of a heavy-armored puji, bouncing off easily.
Behind that heavy-armored puji’s body, Inanna was shoved half into a narrow burrow, the top half of her body still struggling outside.
“Number four, number ten, what are you two doing?!”
puji number 10 was frantically digging with mycelial tentacles to widen the entrance.
Number four stomped impatiently with short mycelial legs on Inanna, each step accompanied by a complaint: “pink puji, your human-form flab is in the way! You can’t squeeze into the weave-path at all!”
puji number 10 glanced at the situation and said, “No use, we won’t make it. You’d better turn back into puji!”
“Exactly, exactly! You should have changed back earlier!” number four agreed, and gave two more stomps.
Inanna: “Suddenly everyone wants me to run — why?”
Lin Jun popped up unexpectedly: “Why else? Haven’t you seen the blood clouds in the sky? Tri-Mountain City is finished; if we don’t run we’ll be wiped out!”
A flicker of panic crossed Inanna’s eyes. “I need to… tell Old Man and Uncle Lorenzo…”
Lin Jun watched the two dukes still fighting and didn’t answer Inanna.
They could not have missed the blood clouds in the sky, nor the meaning behind them, yet they did not act like they planned to retreat.
But now that the Sword Saint had fallen, Lin Jun truly felt humanity had no hope.
He ordered number four and number ten to coax and force Inanna back into puji form, stuffing her into the underground weave-path.
Looking at the panel on the blood throne, Lin Jun clicked his tongue in private astonishment:
【Name: Mortis Dracon】

【Titles:

The Sword Saint had just been forcibly interrupted in 【Treading the Moon】 by Envy.
In that instant, most of Elvien’s panel skills grayed out; the panel’s state resembled when Lin Jun had split off Life Essence.
The situation was an all-around, overwhelming disadvantage — there was truly nothing they could do.
Thinking of the coming enraged Rage that would join the battlefield made Lin Jun speechless.
What day is it today?
A great-sin team-building day?
No one told me in advance — I decline to participate!
Lin Jun prepared to slip away.
But before that…
Mycelium spread through the underground; it quickly found the Sword Saint’s broken body in the pit beneath the crystal cluster.
The emperor was considerate after all — he had used the crystal cluster to block sight on purpose.
Well then, Lin Jun wouldn’t be polite!
Little Sword Saint, did you ever imagine when you swashed my puji in the dungeon that there’d be a day like this?
Huh? Why are you still not dead?
…
Countless cracks appeared on the surface of the blood crystal cluster, accompanied by earsplitting blasts; a wild wolf howl echoed from the pit and rang across the battlefield!
