This Beast-Tamer is a Little Strange

Chapter 776: Cassian Vs Kain Begins

Chapter 776: Chapter 776: Cassian Vs Kain Begins

The arena air remained thick with pressure after Cassian’s final summoning motion. Then, with the deep creak of straining wood and a sharp crack like roots breaking through stone, the sixth dragon appeared.

A malformed creature: half-gold coloured dragon scales, half-living bark. At first glance, Kain saw remnants of what appeared to be the juvenile light dragon he’d heard about Cassian having—the elegant curve of its wings, the pale shimmer along its neck. But there were now two sets of mismatched wings: one set still radiated white-golden luminescence and was in the classical dragon shape, while the other was also white-gold but appeared veined with fibrous tendrils, and mroe closely resembled flower petals in shape and texture. Its horns were thicker than normal for a juvenile dragon and had grown jagged, the smooth sheen characteristic of dragons gone, replaced by the rough texture of aged bark.

Its abdomen was the most jarring—a patchwork of scales and plant matter. Thick, bark-like plating covered much of its left flank, pulsing faintly as though alive. Root-like tendrils coiled from beneath its scales and spread across its limbs like vines strangling a statue.

Kain took an involuntary step back.

The forest green creature’s eyes turned to meet his.

And in that instant, Kain knew. This was no juvenile.

Those eyes burned with intellect. Ancient. Measured. Patient.

The dragon exhaled slowly. Not a breath, but a pulse of pressure. Vauleth visibly tensed, head lowering, claws sinking into the arena stone. His wings twitched, and for the first time since leaving the Coloured Dragon Clan—the first time since leaving the red dragon king’s sphere of influence—he bowed his head unbidden.

Bloodline suppression.

Kain grit his teeth. “Vauleth. Hold your ground.”

The command, gentle but firm, gave Vauleth something to anchor to. His body trembled, red scales flexing against the aura pressing down on him. But he lifted his head. Barely. Jaw clenched in defiance.

Kain watched closely. It wasn’t just Vauleth.

Cassian’s other dragons—the Solar, Ethereal, Coronaflow, Dream and Nightmare dragons—had shifted subtly. The Ethereal flickered farther into the sky. The Solar Dragon’s radiant tail curled ever so slightly away from the bark-horned dragon. Even the Nightmare Dragon, crown of darkness on its head shimmering with mental distortions, seemed to lower its stance, as if uneasy.

They were uncomfortable and suppressed too by their own ally.

Kain didn’t have time to reflect. The referee’s voice boomed. “Begin!”

Chaos unfolded immediately.

Vauleth shot forward, driven not just by duty but fury—a primal, burning rejection of the force from the bloodline suppression that had dared to weigh him down. His crimson wings flared open as he launched himself at the light and plant fused dragon, a continuous stream of fire shooting out from its wide open mouth.

He didn’t believe that a part plant dragon could resist his flames!

The fusion dragon turned its head leisurely toward the attack. But surprisingly it did not dodge. Did not flinch.

Instead, it opened its own mouth—not to roar, but to release a pulse of pure light. The flames collided with the light midair and collapsed into sparks, scattered harmlessly.

The ground beneath Vauleth cracked.

But he pressed on, claws forward, mouth parting for another torrent.

Elsewhere, Bea was locked in probably the most intense battle on the field. But her battle was one nobody was able to see.

Her opponents were the Dream and Nightmare dragons. Both opened their mouths. Not to attack. To sing.

A low, eerie sound rippled across the battlefield, not heard but felt, entering through the mind. Kain’s contracts stiffened. Aegis grunted. The Vespid swarm faltered for half a beat.

The battlefield shimmered.

Illusions took root—dragons of flame, bursts of shadow, twisted renditions of Kain’s own team flickering into half-real existence.

But Bea was already there.

Her Pale Thought Field flared in a jagged arc of defiance, splintering the mental projections before they could settle. Her own negative thought particles flooded the field, degrading and destabilizing the false constructs before they could fully form. Unfortunately, herbeing unseen by the enemy didn’t mean that she suffered no consequences. Whenever her negative thought particles tried to degrade one of the Nightmare Dragons constructs, she had to resist recoiling as nightmare-matter tried to latch onto her mind in turn. A mental deadlock formed instantly between the three of them—each side projecting, defending, counter-infiltrating.

The Dream Dragon pulsed with gentle pressure, attempting to lull Bea into a dreamscape. The Nightmare Dragon hissed, launching knives of emotional trauma wrapped in shadowed intent.

Bea was being heavily pressured. Kain felt it in the bond. But strangely, he also felt…amusement?

Indeed, Bea is extremely talented as far as mental-attribute creatures go. Kain wouldn’t even feel it’d be conceited to say that when looking only at talent and potential, Bea may one day surpass the rumoured capabilities of the 9-star Seraphina Mindshade’s contracts.

Naturally, Bea had rarely, if ever met creatures of the same attribute, that were similar in level, that could make her truly exercise her mental muscles and put up a good fight.

Funnily enough, one could say the Dream and Nightmare dragons were the ’opponents of Bea’s dreams’…

Bea responded to their mental attacks with a combined Negative Thought Particle + Mind Chorus fusion wave that distorted thought and concentration across a wide arc, sending both mental dragons into a momentary haze.

Back in the more physical battlefield, Aegis had already closed the gap with the Solar Dragon.

The two collided.

Fire met stone. Light clashed with darkness. The Solar Dragon’s claws, glowing like miniature suns, raked down Aegis’ side. But the Abyssal energy-enhanced automatic shield that wrapped his body shone briefly, absorbing most of the blow.

Aegis returned the favour, slamming a massive earthen fist into the Solar Dragon’s side, sending a shower of molten scales spiralling off.

To the side, the Ethereal Dragon danced.

The Vespid guards fought in formation—dozens of them, coordinated by the Queen’s omnipresent commands. But it wasn’t enough. The Ethereal creature blinked through dimensions, appearing behind and inside their formations, shattering them with pinpoint strikes before vanishing again.

They could barely keep track.

Chewy burbled, already full from absorbing ambient energy to feed back to its allies.

Kain was relieved that, at least it seemed like in terms of energy endurance, he’d have the upper hand…

That was until he saw what Cassian had up his sleeve next.
