Chapter 96 -95: Cold Spicy Bunny

Chen Momo naturally had her own unique recipe.

Her Spicy Cold Rabbit didn’t use any artificial sauces; everything was meticulously simmered by hand.

Before the apocalypse, she had stored some herbal spices in her spatial dimension. After the apocalypse arrived, she, along with Xu Xiaoka and Chen Xiaobao, had scavenged many more natural spices from a nearby five-star hotel. Following the recipe for Spicy Cold Rabbit, Chen Momo boiled and fried these natural herbal spices to create her exclusive sauce.

Soon, a rich aroma wafted from the kitchen.

She drizzled the simmered sauce over the prepared rabbit meat and popped it into the fridge to chill. A delicious, unique portion of Chen Momo’s signature Spicy Cold Rabbit was ready!

Xu Xiaoka had just finished eating pigeon soup with Chen Xiaobao. Both were still craving more when they caught the tantalizing scent drifting from the kitchen. The two of them eagerly ran in, asking, “Sister Momo, what delicious food are you making now?”

Chen Momo smiled mysteriously. “Spicy Cold Rabbit.”

Xu Xiaoka exclaimed in pleasant surprise, “Spicy Cold Rabbit? Sister Momo, I love Spicy Cold Rabbit the most! I didn’t expect you to know how to make it!”

“Mommy, Xiao Bao wants to eat the bunny,” Xiao Bao clamored from the side.

“It’s really unbelievable that you know how to make Spicy Cold Rabbit, Sister Momo!” Xu Xiaoka said. “I always thought the recipe was super complicated!”

Chen Momo said thoughtfully, “I used to think it was complicated too, but after my recent experience running the cafeteria window, I realized I was wrong. The logic behind a lot of delicious food is actually the same. Once you master one, you master them all. Whether it’s Sauerkraut Fish, pigeon soup, or Spicy Cold Rabbit, as long as you grasp the core principle of making ingredients taste good, you can cook any dish perfectly.”

Xu Xiaoka listened earnestly to Chen Momo’s explanation and nodded in conviction. She felt that Chen Momo was different now—she seemed to be growing more and more confident in her cooking. It seemed that Sister Momo had gained some exclusive insights while studying the Sauerkraut Fish recipe recently.

As they spoke, Chen Momo took the Spicy Cold Rabbit out of the freezer. Visually, it looked savory, red, spicy, and utterly appetizing. The aroma of the dish was already making everyone’s mouth water.

Chen Xiaobao couldn’t wait to eat the bunny.

Chen Momo handed the pair some disposable gloves and had them take the Spicy Cold Rabbit to the living room to eat. The dish was incredibly fragrant, and the two of them ate with immense relish.

Xu Xiaoka felt incredibly happy right now. With a master chef like Sister Momo by her side, she could eat whatever she wanted. Moreover, the taste was absolutely unparalleled and one of a kind. In an apocalypse where food was scarce, this was simply an immense blessing!

In the cafeteria.

The line in front of the Sauerkraut Fish window began to grow longer and longer.

“I want to eat Sauerkraut Fish. Especially the soup—you can tell it’s been meticulously simmered from the very first sip,” a woman said to her husband as she sat down at a table.

Her husband immediately agreed and went to line up at the Sauerkraut Fish window.

Another woman bent down to ask a little boy, “Baby, what do you want to eat today?”

The little boy pointed at the Sauerkraut Fish window with a chubby finger. “Mommy, I want to eat fish. It’s so yummy.”

The woman affectionately rubbed the boy’s head. “Then let’s go line up at the Sauerkraut Fish window together, okay?”

The boy nodded and replied in a milky, childish voice, “Okay.”

Jiang Yunhai proudly carried a portion of Sauerkraut Fish and plopped down at a dining table. “Haha! A Feng, Chu Han, you guys are definitely losing this bet! The line in front of the Sauerkraut Fish Beauty’s window is getting longer by the minute. It’s already twice the size of the line at Zhang Wanwan’s window!”

Song Chuhuan gently stirred the coffee in front of him and cast an indifferent glance at the line for Chen Momo’s window. He compared it to the line for Zhang Wanwan’s window. It was true—the number of people queuing for Sauerkraut Fish was now double the amount of those waiting for Japanese ramen.

Jiang Yunhai shot another look at Zhang Wanwan and sneered. “Look at Zhang Wanwan, her face is totally black! She definitely never expected to lose to a housewife, did she?”

Indeed, Zhang Wanwan had been extremely irritated these past few days. The crowd in front of her Japanese ramen window was actually dwindling. They were all running over to Chen Momo’s window diagonally across from hers to buy Sauerkraut Fish!

It was absolutely absurd. What kind of tricks did a housewife like Chen Momo use to lure all the diners to her window?

Desperate to win, Zhang Wanwan grew increasingly frustrated as she watched herself losing to Chen Momo. Based on her pre-blizzard experience running a Japanese restaurant chain, restaurants often added heavy doses of chemical food additives to their dishes to retain customers.

Could it be that Chen Momo had also grasped this secret?

No, she absolutely had to overtake Chen Momo!

Thus, in her quest to surpass Chen Momo, Zhang Wanwan began dumping artificial additives into her Japanese ramen—things that never belonged there in the first place. As a result, the flavor of the Japanese ramen was no longer authentic; it even became rather bizarre. After buying it once, diners felt that the ramen’s taste was deteriorating, while the Sauerkraut Fish tasted more and more nutritious and restorative. Consequently, they simply all defected to queue up for the Sauerkraut Fish.

Seeing only a sparse handful of people at her window compared to the massive line at Chen Momo’s, Zhang Wanwan vented all her anger onto her part-time worker, Liu Xiuxiu. By the end of the day, poor part-timer Liu Xiuxiu had already been scolded to tears several times by Zhang Wanwan.

Song Chuhuan watched this scene coldly from the sidelines and remarked flatly, “Who would have thought the Ramen Beauty had such a harsh side? Her own noodles aren’t selling well and she can’t beat the competition, so she takes her rage out on a pitiful worker. Tsk tsk, that little girl working for her is truly miserable.”

Meanwhile, Jiang Yunhai wolfed down mouthfuls of Sauerkraut Fish and boasted smugly, “Well, what do you think? I wasn’t wrong, was I? I said ages ago that the Sauerkraut Fish Beauty had the ability to turn the tide! How could the person Jiang Yunhai has set his sights on ever be a mistake?”

Ouyang Feng, having just finished a plate of egg fried rice, elegantly wiped his lips and mocked Jiang Yunhai. “Yun Hai, you might have your sights on her, but does she have her sights on you? You’ve bought so much Sauerkraut Fish from her window, yet I haven’t seen the Sauerkraut Fish Beauty pay you any mind.”

At these words, the three young men at the table burst into laughter. Even Yi Ronghao, who had been silent all this while, couldn’t help but chuckle softly.

Jiang Yunhai flushed red and defended himself. “Who says she ignores me? Right now, she’s in the middle of a showdown with Zhang Wanwan, and I don’t want to distract her! Once the competition results are out, I’ll definitely find a way to make her talk to me. Just you guys wait and see!”

Nearby, Liu Hui Chun accompanied Gu Rongjin as he inspected the various windows in the cafeteria. Gu Rongjin couldn’t help but cast a few extra glances at Chen Momo’s window.

A window with a massive queue—this woman truly made him see her in a new light. He had originally thought Chen Momo was bound to lose.

“Base Commander, she’s someone who never accepts defeat. She always manages to surprise us,” Liu Hui Chun said with a chuckle from the side.
