Chapter 106 -105: Ultimate PK 3

The atmosphere in the audience instantly grew tense as everyone stared at Gu Rongjin, waiting for him to announce the final results.

Gu Rongjin glanced at Chen Momo before his pleasant voice rang out. “Chen Momo, comprehensive score: 99.8 points.”

A round of enthusiastic applause immediately erupted from the crowd.

“99.8 points! That’s amazing, it’s practically a perfect score!”

“Being able to do even the small things so well just shows that Boss Chen is no ordinary person!”

“Congratulations!”

The crowd broke into heated, excited discussions. Standing to the side, gray-haired Liu Hui Chun smiled and nodded in satisfaction. He had been involved in the entire scoring process. All the base’s management personnel, along with fifty public judges selected from the base’s residents, had jointly participated in the evaluation.

In truth, the comprehensive score for Chen Momo’s sauerkraut fish could have easily reached a perfect 100. The only reason she fell short was because the base chief had given her the lowest score of the bunch—a 90. After all, his standards were notoriously strict; getting even a 90 from him was incredibly difficult. Thus, when averaged out, her final score came to 99.8 points.

Next up was Zhang Wanwan.

She instinctively sat up straighter. Since Chen Momo got 99.8 points, she figured that even if she couldn’t surpass her, she should at least get a 99.6, right? That way, even if she lost, it wouldn’t be too humiliating.

Gu Rongjin looked at Zhang Wanwan and stated flatly, “Zero points.”

“Zero points?!” Zhang Wanwan simply couldn’t believe it. She instantly sprang up from her seat in agitation. “The results are unfair! Why did I get a zero?” she shrieked, completely disregarding her image.

If she scored a zero in this evaluation, how was she supposed to run her cafeteria window in the future? This insulting score would make her the laughingstock of the entire base!

Gu Rongjin pinned her with a scrutinizing glare and said coldly, “Zhang Wanwan, after testing, we found that you added massive amounts of artificial additives to your Japanese ramen. The dosage far exceeded safe limits, all just to make your food taste better. Isn’t that right?”

His words instantly rendered Zhang Wanwan speechless. She had to admit, she did use a ton of additives in her ramen.

Even before the apocalypse, her Japanese restaurant chain had started using additives like Wei Ji Xian and Ke Liuxiang to enhance the flavor of their food. But back then, food regulations were strict. To avoid being caught, she hadn’t added too much. Now that it was the apocalypse, Zhang Wanwan assumed the base lacked a food safety supervision department. In order to elevate the savory taste of her dishes and win this competition, she had used ten times the normal amount of additives.

Down in the audience, the fifty public judges and the rest of the crowd broke into indignant chatter upon hearing this revelation.

“No wonder I always felt super thirsty and uncomfortable after eating that Japanese ramen. It was because of all the additives!”

“As long as a shady boss like her wins, she doesn’t care whether her customers live or die!”

“Her heart is too black! We need to kick her out of the base and ban her from opening a window here!”

Listening to the furious denunciations echoing around her, Zhang Wanwan’s face turned deathly pale. She had thought her secret use of excessive additives could slip by unnoticed. She never imagined the base would actually test her ramen’s ingredients!

Chen Momo had known all along that Zhang Wanwan’s food definitely contained additives, as many diners had complained of extreme thirst and needing to guzzle water after eating it. However, she hadn’t expected Zhang Wanwan to use ten times the safe limit. This was treating the customers’ lives and safety as a complete joke!

Just as Zhang Wanwan was descending into panic, Gu Rongjin’s eyes suddenly darkened. He stepped down from the stage and approached her, step by step. His oppressive aura instantly threw her into a fluster; she had a premonition that something massive was about to happen.

Gu Rongjin stopped right in front of her and glanced back at Liu Hui Chun. Getting the hint, Liu Hui Chun immediately walked over carrying an object wrapped in white cloth. Gu Rongjin unwrapped the cloth, revealing a packet of cookies inside. A tantalizing aroma wafted from the baked goods, so strong that even the people sitting nearby could smell it.

Seeing this packet of cookies land completely untouched in Gu Rongjin’s hands, Zhang Wanwan’s expression changed drastically. “Base Chief, those are the cookies I gave to Chen Xiaobao. Why are they in your hands?”

Gu Rongjin chuckled coldly, his deep eyes like two icy blades. “Are you surprised?”

Watching this unfold, Chen Momo was somewhat taken aback. She hadn’t thought the test results for the cookies would come out so quickly. She certainly hadn’t expected Gu Rongjin to act with such high efficiency. Even Chen Momo didn’t currently know exactly what had been added to those cookies.

The entire conference hall fell deathly silent as everyone’s gaze zeroed in on the cookies in Gu Rongjin’s hands.

Gu Rongjin announced coldly, “In order to win the competition, Zhang Wanwan secretly spiked these cookies with arsenic, and then gave them to Chen Momo’s son. The sheer malice of her intentions is plain to see.”

The audience instantly boiled over in an uproar.

“This woman is too vicious! Putting excessive additives in our food, and now poisoning Boss Chen’s son!”

“She has the heart of a viper!”

“Thank goodness that smart kid didn’t eat her cookies, or else that adorable boy would have left this world!”

Chen Momo’s nails dug fiercely into her palms, her whole body trembling. Arsenic. It was highly toxic; even a tiny dose could be lethal. This woman had actually laced her child’s cookies with arsenic! She would never let anyone who wanted her son dead get away with it!

“Zhang Wanwan,” Gu Rongjin said coldly, “do you now understand why you were given a zero?”

Zhang Wanwan remained silent, dropping her head in shame. She had wanted to rely on her culinary skills to climb back to the peak of her life in the apocalypse. She never imagined that her desperate desire to win and her narrow-mindedness would backfire so spectacularly. In the end, all her scheming had only ruined herself!

After the competition results were announced, Zhang Wanwan returned to the cafeteria, only to be shocked to find her Japanese ramen window smashed to pieces.

The news of her using excessive additives and giving poisoned cookies to a five-year-old child had already spread throughout the base. Furious diners had stormed the cafeteria and wrecked her stall. Not only that, but several black-and-white funeral portraits of Zhang Wanwan were plastered on the walls. One angry diner had even crafted a makeshift tombstone, placing her portrait behind it with the words “Tomb of Zhang Wanwan” scrawled across the front.
