Chapter 104 -103: Ultimate PK

He nodded. “Of course.”

And so, Comrade Chen Xiaobao began to run his little hands all over Gu Rongjin.

Chen Momo was speechless. Was there a hole she could crawl into to die of embarrassment? Having a son like this was beyond awkward.

Unable to endure it any longer, Chen Momo’s face darkened as she yelled, “Chen—Xiao—Bao!”

Chen Xiaobao raised his innocent little face and ran over, his feet going PATTER PATTER against the floor. “What’s wrong, Mommy?”

Chen Momo kept a stern face. “Why are you running around? Sit here and behave!”

“Oh,” Chen Xiaobao replied. His tiny body, wrapped in a white bathrobe, obediently sat down next to Chen Momo.

After a while, the restless Chen Xiaobao stood up again and cupped his chubby little hands against Chen Momo’s ear. “Mommy, let me tell you a secret.”

Assuming it was nothing serious, Chen Momo asked, “What is it?”

Then she heard Chen Xiaobao whisper in a voice he clearly thought was quiet, “Mommy, I tested it for you. Uncle Gu has a really great body…”

“COUGH! COUGH!”

Chen Momo almost choked on her own spit.

“Sit down right now!” Chen Momo ordered.

Chen Xiaobao giggled and sat back down.

Chen Momo glanced at Gu Rongjin. Given the distance… she was absolutely certain he had heard every single word. Gu Rongjin was currently staring up at the ceiling, pretending he hadn’t heard a thing. Beside them, Xu Xiaoka was trying desperately to hold back her laughter.

The atmosphere was tense and undeniably awkward.

Chen Momo raised a hand to wipe the sweat from her forehead, unsure if it was from the heat of the sauna or the sheer embarrassment her son had caused her. After coming out of the sauna, Chen Momo felt it was necessary to explain things to Gu Rongjin. Otherwise, things would just remain uncomfortably weird.

“Base Commander!” Chen Momo quickly jogged to catch up with Gu Rongjin, who was walking ahead of her.

Thanks to his long legs, Gu Rongjin naturally walked at a brisk pace. He came to a halt, turned his head, and looked at her, his handsome face as cold and unreadable as an iceberg.

Chen Momo hastily explained, “I feel like I need to explain what happened in the sauna earlier. My son touching your chest muscles was entirely his own idea. It had nothing to do with me…”

Gu Rongjin continued to stare at her without a shred of emotion.

Chen Momo tried a different approach. “My son was just talking nonsense. The truth is, I couldn’t care less about what your body looks like…”

“And?” Gu Rongjin asked calmly.

“So… please don’t misunderstand.”

“Misunderstand what exactly?”

Chen Momo was stumped. She decided to drop it. Explaining further would only dig her into a deeper hole.

Instead, she said bluntly, “Anyway, I just wanted to let you know that it was solely my son’s personal behavior. It has absolutely nothing to do with me.”

Gu Rongjin maintained his calm demeanor. “I never said it had anything to do with you. What exactly are you trying to say?”

Chen Momo was once again rendered speechless.

Defeated, she finally sighed. “Fine, my esteemed Base Commander. I’m not trying to say anything at all. You can go back to your business now.”

With that, Chen Momo turned around and shot her son a fierce glare. She thought, “You little brat, doing nothing but causing trouble for your mother. Just you wait.”

As soon as they got home, Chen Momo put on a stern face and ordered, “Go face the wall.”

Chen Xiaobao reluctantly stood facing the wall, a deeply aggrieved expression on his little face. “Mommy, why does Xiao Bao have to face the wall?”

“You went and touched someone’s chest muscles,” Chen Momo scolded. “Do you think that’s appropriate?”

“Xiao Bao doesn’t understand,” he replied, pouting defensively. “Why can’t I touch them? Xiao Bao even asked Uncle Gu before touching. Uncle Gu gave his permission!”

Chen Xiaobao’s argument was so well-reasoned that, for a moment, Chen Momo couldn’t find the words to refute him.

Standing nearby, Xu Xiaoka hurriedly spoke up in the boy’s defense. “Sister Momo, Xiao Bao is still very young. His intentions are completely innocent.”

Chen Momo shot her a look. “Innocent enough to go feeling up a man’s abs?”

Xu Xiaoka had nothing to say to that.

Chen Momo finally understood her son’s true nature. He was a child who hid behind an innocent, cherubic face while carrying out his own devious little schemes. Worse still, because that little face of his was so deceptively sweet, it made it practically impossible for anyone to refuse him.

No one knew a son better than his mother. It was painfully obvious to Chen Momo now: her son had taken a keen interest in Gu Rongjin and was actively trying to matchmake the two of them. However, having already survived one failed marriage, she had completely lost all interest in men. She needed to nip Chen Xiaobao’s grand plans in the bud.

Taking a deep breath, she addressed him with earnest gravity. “Chen Xiaobao, listen to me. I only have one thing on my mind right now, and that is working hard to make money so I can raise you. Stop causing trouble for me. Do you hear me?”

Chen Xiaobao nodded, still pouting. “Xiao Bao hears you.”

Xu Xiaoka watched with heartache. “Sister Momo, Xiao Bao is only five years old. If you’re this fierce with him, you’re going to scare him.”

Seeing that Chen Xiaobao had sincerely acknowledged his mistake, Chen Momo finally let him off the hook.

Tomorrow was the official showdown. They needed to get all their ingredients and supplies prepped in advance today. That evening, Chen Momo specifically cooked a table full of delicious dishes to fuel up for tomorrow’s final battle.

Huahua was happily running circles around Xiao Bao, wagging its tail. Xiao Bao picked up a meaty bone from his bowl and tossed it to Huahua. Huahua fiercely pounced on it, caught the bone in its mouth, and crouched off to the side to devour it in large bites.

Xu Xiaoka laughed. “Sister Momo, look at Huahua. It’s so agile, it doesn’t even act like a cat.”

Chen Momo watched Huahua, lost in thought. When she had first found Huahua out in the freezing snow, the little kitten had been no bigger than a slipper, so starved it was practically just skin and bones. Ever since she had brought the animal home, Xiao Bao and Xiao Ka took turns feeding it delicious food every single day. As a result, Huahua’s body had bulked up rapidly, growing at a visible rate.

Now, Huahua was roughly the size of an adult cat. Yet, its behavior was completely un-feline. It never meowed like a normal cat. Its claws were razor-sharp, its teeth were pointed, and it was exceptionally skilled at gnawing on meaty bones. Moreover, Huahua’s stamina and energy levels far exceeded those of an ordinary cat, and it was always roughhousing.

Chen Momo stared closely at the pet. It was a creature that looked like a feline on the outside, yet behaved entirely differently.

A sudden suspicion crept into Chen Momo’s mind. She wondered, “Since Huahua’s habits are so vastly different from a cat’s… could it be that it isn’t a cat at all? But if it isn’t a cat, what could it possibly be?”

Since it was still quite small, Chen Momo decided to observe it for a little while longer. They would find out whether Huahua was a real cat or not once it grew a bit bigger!

The day of the finals arrived.

Zhang Wanwan arrived at her food stall bright and early that morning. She had prepared double her usual amount of tableware. On the day of the ultimate showdown, she was absolutely confident that the line of diners in front of her stall would be packed to the brim!

Zhang Wanwan glanced diagonally across the hall toward the pickled cabbage fish stall, only to find the interior completely dark. She let out a cold sneer. It looked like Chen Momo was too afraid to even show up for the competition today. With her opponent out of the picture, the ultimate victor would undoubtedly be none other than Zhang Wanwan herself!
