There Must Be Something Wrong With This Game!

Chapter 385: The Chairman's True Face

  • Next Chapter

Chairman. Generally speaking, this refers to the head of a company, the leader of a corporation.

However, here, the Chairman was usually referred to as the Emperor, the Supreme One, the Eternal One, and so on.

As the head of the company, he held the majority of the shares and directly controlled all of its resources. He was at the apex of the company’s power pyramid.

Discovering that he was actually on the Chairman’s radar, Duan Fei was at once flattered and astonished. He quickly asked, “So how can I take him out?”

“…Your thought process is messed up! Shouldn’t you be terrified right now, wondering how you offended him?”

“‘Are kings and nobles born to their station?’ If I take him out, I won’t have to worry about being fired.”

Looking at Duan Fei, Goldman Sachs couldn’t understand his way of thinking.

The man seemed to have absolutely no reverence for the Chairman. The moment he learned the Chairman wanted to fire him, his first thought was how to take the guy out.

But he wasn’t some grandly ambitious person, either. The reason he wanted to take out the Chairman was simply to avoid being fired.

‘If you have the power to take out the Chairman, couldn’t you aim for something a little higher?’

Sighing, Goldman Sachs hadn’t wanted to get involved with Duan Fei.

But he also understood that if he didn’t, the endless time loop would continue, and he would just become Duan Fei’s punching bag.

So, he could only say, “I have higher-level clearance, and I can help stall the people from HR when they arrive. You should still investigate on your own and see why the Chairman wants to fire you.”

“Okay, but first, I’m going to summon someone.”

Without activating his Spiritual Armor, Duan Fei directly used Random Summoning to call for others.

Without the Spiritual Armor, he wouldn’t get a boost to his Spiritual Power, making it impossible to summon certain powerful beings.

Random Summoning was like lighting a torch with Spiritual Power in the Void. People who saw the torch and knew Duan Fei would follow it, and the first to arrive would be summoned.

The stronger the Spiritual Power, the brighter the torch, allowing more people to see it and be summoned.

However, Duan Fei didn’t use much Spiritual Power this time, so not many people saw the flame. Subsequently, a rather ordinary guy was summoned.

He looked like a middle school student, wearing non-prescription glasses. A large Fat Head Fish floated beside him, and both were staring at their surroundings with identical looks of terror.

“What’s going on? What’s happening? Holy crap, isn’t that the Great Demon King!”

Duan Fei looked at the boy and recognized him as well.

They had only met once. The boy was a middle school student from that school that had been sucked into the Void. He was stubbornly convinced that Duan Fei was the Great Demon King and was constantly trying to defeat him.

Looking at him, Duan Fei ruffled his hair. “Well, if it isn’t Glasses. It’s been a few days. Still want to challenge me?”

“Let go! I’ll defeat you one day!”

“Where’s your girlfriend, Wang Yun?”

“Studying for her exams… Why should I tell you!”

Duan Fei looked at the boy and felt that Random Summoning was a bit unreliable; it had actually brought over a middle schooler.

However, the boy’s ability was quite useful. His Fat Head Fish could help scout and share its vision, which was an extremely handy skill in this company.

Grabbing the boy, Duan Fei said adamantly, “Cut the crap. You’re coming with me. Help me monitor everyone’s movements here.”

“Why should I help you!” Glasses said, annoyed.

Duan Fei just kept squinting at him.

Even after Glasses guiltily avoided Duan Fei’s gaze, he still stubbornly said, “Why should I help you.”

‘Sure enough, his affinity is too low.’

Summoned Creatures with high affinity would help right away without making any extra demands.

Take the ghosts from Love City, for example. His affinity with them was maxed out. Just meeting them was a reward in itself; they would never have extra demands.

But a damn brat like this, who he had little affinity with to begin with, not only refused to work upon arrival but even demanded payment. ‘He’s asking for it.’

However, Duan Fei knew how to handle a teenager like this. He pulled out his phone. “I’ll let you use it for ten minutes.”

“What can I do in ten minutes!”

“It comes with a few good games.”

“…I’ll try it first.”

Glasses immediately played on the phone for ten minutes. Then, he reluctantly said to Duan Fei, “It was just okay. What do you want me to do?”

“Help me check out the situation here. Share some viewpoints with me, the more the better.”

“Fine.”

Directing the Fat Head Fish, Glasses had Duan Fei sit next to him, then had his strange creature share its vision.

The chubby Fat Head Fish wobbled its way toward the top of the building.

It was not a product of this world, so this world’s rules couldn’t restrain it, and ordinary people couldn’t see it.

Along the way, it moved as if through an uninhabited land, flying straight up to the forty-seventh floor and into the Chairman’s office.

Through the shared vision, Duan Fei saw a rather astonishing scene.

Inside the Chairman’s office, there was no living person, but rather an incredibly enormous mechanical eye.

The eye floated in mid-air, with a mass of data cables extending from its back, merging into the entire building’s data network and connecting to its database.

In the simple, almost spartan room, one wall had been converted into a monitor, allowing the eye to instantly browse hundreds of pages and make the most rational judgments.

In one of the windows, the information for employee #9521 was displayed. HR 007 was receiving the Chairman’s orders, and their previous chat history was also on the screen.

HR 007: “Just now, Goldman Sachs requested to add employee #9521 to the permanent employment list. Do you approve?”

“No.”

“May I know your reason, Mr. Chairman?”

“No reason is necessary. Just execute the order.”

“Understood. I will send someone to fire him shortly.”

“Mhm. If he does not comply, use force. But be sure to kill him only *after* he has been fired.”

“Understood.”

Aside from its business communications with HR 007, the mechanical eye’s work was endless.

It had to be a mechanical lifeform. As long as it had enough electricity, it could work indefinitely, relaying its orders to every manager and imposing its will on every single person.

But a machine is a machine. It failed to realize it was being watched by the Fat Head Fish, and that crucial information had already fallen into Duan Fei’s hands.

Pausing the feed, Duan Fei looked at Goldman Sachs beside him and asked, “Do you know the Chairman?”

“I don’t.” Goldman Sachs shook his head. “Even my father has never met him. We only know he has a private office and his own method of communication.”

“I see. In that case, let me ask, what exactly is our company’s line of business?”

“You don’t even know that? AI.”

“I see. I think I’m starting to understand.”
