Chapter 323 - 88: A Difficult Boss Battle

As he ran, Duan Fei checked his current status.

He had farmed about as many Reincarnation Points as he could. All his Attributes had reached forty-five points, so farming for more would have little effect.

These attribute points were comparable to an Adventurer from the tenth floor. For the rest of the journey, he would have to rely mainly on his Professional Skills and his own Talent.

While running, Duan Fei adjusted the Professions recorded by his Talent, finally settling on Mage, Priest, and Heaven Wing Knight.

’The perfect holy trinity.’

The Heaven Wing Knight Profession came from Charlie. It was a rather special type of Warrior, with its main Skill being Heaven Wing Swordsmanship, which happened to pair perfectly with his Crowbar.

Right now, the Celestial Wing Knight Order was locked in a fierce battle with the players. Some elite squads had already received a new mission: to press onward, reach the Demon King’s location before time ran out, and ultimately defeat him.

Duan Fei’s group was one of them.

Because time was short, all the players had begun to lend their aid, holding back the offensive outside to allow these elite teams to complete their mission.

It was a battle against time. Every player participating in the event had found their role, giving them an epic sense of participation and accomplishment.

Rushing into the sixteenth floor, Duan Fei saw that the karst cave had already been dug through once.

To clear out all the traps, the players had even painstakingly dug up every inch of ground to remove them, creating a safe path in exchange.

The entrance to the next floor was only ten kilometers away, but for every meter of this ten-thousand-meter distance, there were dozens of vengeful Slime souls. It was, without a doubt, a road of death.

Sprinting along this now-safe road, Duan Fei ran at full speed and finally saw the entrance to the next floor, along with his companions waiting at the doorway.

"Duan Fei, we were waiting for you!" Jinghong shouted. "Hurry up, we’re running out of time!"

"Got it. Let’s go."

Jumping down the stairs together, they found themselves before a bottomless passage. A group of Slimes was rushing back and forth inside the pipes, unconsciously rolling into different tubes and heading off to separate locations.

As they rolled, a voice like a little girl’s sounded in Duan Fei’s ear. "Welcome to the seventeenth floor. I’ve been waiting for so, so, so long. You’re the first creatures to arrive here. Even though you’re just a bunch of Slimes, I’m still so happy to see you."

"Cut the crap! Let us through, we need to go beat up the Demon King!" Duan Fei yelled back immediately.

"...Why do you want to beat up the Demon King?" the voice asked, confused. "I think it would be better if we got to know each other first. I am Mist, one of the Four Heavenly Kings under the Demon King. The Falan you defeated was just the weakest among us."

"Summoning!"

"Sorry, I lied. She was the strongest one. Okay, I take back my lie now. I’m an honest, good child again. Praise me."

Duan Fei didn’t want to deal with this mentally immature being, but he soon discovered that the passage before him seemed to be endless.

He immediately scanned the area with his Magic Power and found that from the moment he had fallen into the passage, he had been trapped in an infinitely long tunnel, unable to ever reach an exit.

After thinking for a moment, Duan Fei spoke to the voice in his ear, "This infinitely long tunnel... was this your doing?"

"It was me," the voice replied proudly. "You seem to be a Great Mage too, but it looks like you only have one type of Magic Talent. But I am Mist, Mist of a Thousand Techniques. I’ve mastered over a thousand skills. Even if you beat me in one area, I’m still better than you."

"Are you a grade-schooler?" Duan Fei said with a sigh. "And it sounds like you’re much stronger than Falan."

"No, Sister Falan is stronger. But because you’re Slimes, she couldn’t use her full Power. After all, she’s a fanatical Slime enthusiast. I’ve seen her taking a Slime bath more than once."

"That’s a... progressive hobby. How do I get out of here?"

"Simple. Satisfy me."

"Sorry, your hobbies are a little too progressive for me."

"Huh? Is making me happy so hard? We can talk about your favorite boy or girl. I’ll go first. I like Sister Falan the best. What about you?"

"Can we not talk about this?" Duan Fei asked, exasperated.

"Then you can just keep rolling."

After that, the voice vanished for a moment, and the tunnel became even smoother, making Duan Fei roll even faster.

He tried to cut his way out, but just as Mist had said, she possessed far more magical techniques. These techniques made the entire tunnel incredibly durable, making it very difficult for Duan Fei to escape.

Having no other choice, Duan Fei said, "Mist, come on out."

"I’m here! Did you change your mind?" Mist said joyfully. "Let’s play house together! You can be the forty-year-old uncle who just lost his job and is three hundred gold coins in debt, and I’ll be your loving wife."

’Isn’t my character’s backstory a little too detailed?’

"Darling, you’re home~"

’We’re starting now?! And is this all just improv?!’

"Darling, I’m pregnant, and the baby isn’t yours."

’Don’t make the stakes so high!’

"Then whose could it be?"

’And don’t leave me hanging like that!’

"Oh, by the way, I heard the husband next door lost his job. His wife fainted when she heard and is now planning to divorce him. It’s a good thing that even though my husband has some debt, he still has a job. Otherwise, our family would starve to death."

"Please stop, I feel miserable enough already."

"Oh! The baby’s kicking me. Just like his father."

’I’m a Slime, where would I even get legs from?’

...

For the next half a day, Duan Fei was stuck playing house with Mist.

Based on his communication with his other companions, he found out that everyone was rushing through the tunnels, and the version of Mist they each encountered had a different personality.

It seemed Mist had multiple personalities, but every single one had the same demand: make the players play house with them.

These versions of Mist included an overbearing Lord, a little girl, a young maiden experiencing the first blush of love, and the old lady from next door.

This boss might not have a combat phase, but Duan Fei would rather fight it for ten rounds, blocking and parrying hundreds of times, than continue talking to this being.

Because if you missed a cue, she would restart. If you said the wrong line, she would restart. Even if the players thought it went well, if Mist herself wasn’t satisfied, she would restart.

The group was tormented by Mist to the point of utter misery. When she was finally satisfied and let the players go, they found themselves on a floating platform.

Countless stars surrounded the platform, and in front of it was the passage to the next floor. Mist’s voice echoed in the Void, "Thank you. That was a lot of fun. Even with the most silent one, I had a great time. I hope you’ll come visit again often."

Looking at the most silent player, Cuihua, the group made a silent vow in their hearts.

’We’re never coming back to this floor again, not even if it kills us!’
