There Must Be Something Wrong With This Game!

Chapter 274 - 39: The Crazy Magician

With the clown dead, the gas lamp beside him became ownerless.

Back in reality, Duan Fei first processed the information he had just heard. He realized the competition between the organizations in the Abyss was far fiercer than he had imagined.

The Abyss had the potential to become a second reality, and the various organizations were undoubtedly at the forefront of the struggle for profit. Every organization hoped to seize a large enough piece of the pie.

The administrators had already sent an undercover agent to the Madhouse, so had the Madhouse sent one to the administrators?

And how would the conflicts between those large guilds ultimately end?

Duan Fei had no desire to consider any of these questions.

He just wanted to play the game in peace; he didn’t care about the other problems.

The gunfire outside gradually died down, signaling that the battle was nearing its end.

Knowing there was no longer any need for him to intervene, Duan Fei picked up the clown’s gas lamp and began to inspect its Attributes.

"Wudou Gas Lamp: Uncorrupted, Purple.

Description: Can only be used in front of a mirror. After repeatedly turning the gas lamp on and off, you will enter a specific room, leaving a marker at your original location.

Can be used three times per instance. There are currently two markers."

One of the markers was at the old factory, and the other should be at the Madhouse’s headquarters.

Of course, this could also be a trap set by the Madhouse, but Duan Fei felt the clown had no reason to lie.

’To risk a purple item for a lie with an uncertain payoff... no matter how brain-dead he was, he wouldn’t make a plan like that.’

Still, he couldn’t bet all his chips on this. He had to make other arrangements.

After thinking for a moment, he waited until the gunfire outside had completely stopped before walking out. The battle was over.

The Clown Gang members inside the factory had been suppressed. The Maid was whipping a few guys who were putting up a desperate struggle with the parasol in her hand, a gentle smile still on her face.

Most of the Clown Gang’s lunatics had been dealt with, while a few were tied up, their faces etched with disbelief.

Some two hundred people annihilated by just five. It seemed like something out of a fairy tale, yet it had happened right before their eyes.

Some of the clowns who had taken the neurotoxin were also slowly coming to their senses, their eyes filled with terror as they looked at Duan Fei and his group.

Bystander A had put away his shield and walked over to Duan Fei. "Duan Fei," he asked, "what should we do with these prisoners?"

"Notify the Gentlemen’s Association to come pick them up. Then take them back to peel potatoes."

"What’s the next step?"

"We’re going to the city center to beat up the mayor!"

The Maid, hearing this, came over and flicked the blood off her parasol. "I like that proposal," she said with a smile. "I can’t wait to see some more blood."

After telling the Gentlemen’s Association to hurry over, the group hopped into a car and sped toward the city center at lightning speed.

While they were on their way, members of the Gentlemen’s Association had already arrived at the scene and witnessed the carnage.

The entire factory looked as if it had been washed in blood. Scores of vicious thugs lay in pools of it, while the survivors trembled in fear.

They had seen something far more terrifying than themselves—a supernatural force that made them realize they were nothing but small fry.

Looking at this group, the men from the Gentlemen’s Association understood where Chairman Lin’s high regard for Bystander A came from.

They were the real deal when it came to a fight.

Meanwhile, the mayor also received a phone call.

The Magician’s deal with the mayor had been exposed. It was the sort of thing that made even the Godfather’s hair stand on end, prompting him to make a call.

After the call connected, the Godfather stated his identity directly. Once the mayor was on the line, he said, "You’ve done a bad thing. A very, very bad thing."

The mayor was silent for a moment, then said, "What are you talking about?"

"My people have already investigated it. You poisoned the food. I don’t know what you were thinking, but I can see you don’t consider the townspeople to be actual citizens at all."

"...It’s for their own good."

"Your idea of ’for their own good’ is to keep them from good food and turn them into a bunch of imbeciles? I don’t know who gave you the gall to think you could pass judgment on us in place of God. But I do know that if no one judges you for your crimes, then we can’t even call ourselves human."

"Godfather, what are you planning to do?"

"It’s not me, it’s them. They’re already on their way to you. You’d better prepare a coffin, Mr. Mayor."

The mayor wanted to say more, but all he heard was the dial tone from the other end.

Putting down the phone, he immediately ordered, "Have all security guards gather in the plaza! Protect this place at all costs!"

A loud explosion BOOMED. A car charged up the stairs in front of City Hall, climbed the ramp, smashed through the main doors, and crashed into the conference room.

Before the security guards could even assemble, a bomb inside the car detonated. Acrid smoke shot into the sky, alerting even the dazed citizens nearby.

Gunfire erupted. The guards who could still move were suppressed by Flora’s artillery, while the Maid charged directly into the crowd, her parasol elegantly whipping every guard who dared to stand back up.

Leaving two behind to keep the crowd suppressed, Bystander A forged a path with his shield at the front. Cuihua reaped through the enemies with her Katsuo Stick, while Duan Fei held a megaphone and yelled, "Death to the nation’s traitors, accomplices will be spared! Resist to the end, and you’ll find only death! ...Nah, that’s not direct enough."

After rethinking his approach, Duan Fei yelled again, "Surrender or die! You guys get paid, what, a few bucks a month? Is that really worth dying for?!"

They charged all the way to the mayor’s office and broke down the door. The cornered mayor fired his pistol at Bystander A, only to watch in despair as the bullets ricocheted off his shield.

Realizing he was powerless against them, the mayor was about to beg for mercy when the phone on his desk rang.

He hastily picked up the phone and heard the Magician’s voice on the other end. "Mr. Mayor, could you pass the phone to the person in front of you?"

He quickly handed the phone to Duan Fei. Duan Fei heard the Magician say, "Duan Fei, this is the second time we’ve spoken."

"Spit it out."

"I must admire your reaction speed, and I applaud your operational capabilities. The clown truly deserved to die at your hands."

"What are you trying to say?"

"I’m saying the game has only just begun. The entire city’s nightmare is just getting started. Come, let me show you my madness. Arise, my servant!"

The words seemed to hold a strange Magic Power. The mayor’s skin suddenly turned red, and he let out a guttural roar.

A few seconds later, he curled into a ball, his body sprouting fur. Before everyone’s eyes, he transformed into a giant Maine Coon cat.

Staring at the big cat, Duan Fei asked tiredly, "Magician, what the hell are you doing?"

"Turning a man into a cat, how crazy is that! Besides, kitties are so cute. Could you really bring yourself to hit a cat? Aren’t you afraid of the animal rights activists?"

"But can the cat fight us?"

"...Oh, right."
