Chapter 237 - 2: The Disabled yet Strong-Willed Examinees

  • Next Chapter

Duan Fei sat at the teacher’s desk. The students he had just blocked at the door began to file in. They each took a seat, making sure to leave an empty one in front, behind, and on both sides.

Because of this seating arrangement, the room that could have held thirty-five people now only had twelve, an equal number of boys and girls.

No one told Duan Fei what to do. From the moment they sat down, they placed their hands under their desks and stared at him without blinking.

They all wore identical uniforms. The Blue Star-style outfits looked a bit bulky, which made them all look the same despite their different faces.

An ordinary person would have felt a chill down their spine under these gazes and would have started looking for an escape route.

But Duan Fei was different.

He completely ignored their stares and opened his Attributes panel, only to find that all his Attributes were at 10.

’Average human stats, huh...’

Since his stats were at an average human level, it meant he couldn’t rely on brute force to subdue them. He would have to follow the rules.

Duan Fei stood up, about to look for clues, when he heard a student in the front row speak up. "Teacher, the exam is about to start. Aren’t you going to announce the rules?"

Duan Fei was about to say he didn’t know the rules either when a piece of paper appeared on the desk.

The front of the paper was printed with several lines of text, each one an exam rule.

"1. The exam will be held from 3:00 PM to 3:30 PM. The proctor must distribute the exam papers on time."

"2. Students are strictly forbidden from cheating during the exam. If a student is found cheating, please warn them. After three instances of cheating, they must be removed from the exam room, and their paper handled separately. If the student resists, force may be used."

"3. Students are incapable of physically harming the teacher, but Spirit is an exception."

"4. You must patrol every ten minutes and write down the name of each examinee. If you find a name is incorrect, you must immediately remind them to correct it."

"5. Remember, you must not, under any circumstances, allow students to cheat."

The exam was only half an hour long, but he had to patrol every ten minutes to make sure no one was cheating.

Flipping the paper over, Duan Fei saw a line of small print on the back, so small it would be easy to miss.

"6. Students may know the rules, but do not read them aloud or show them this paper."

Glancing at the student who had just asked the question, Duan Fei thought, ’You guys really are a dishonest bunch.’

Noticing that her trap had been seen through, the female student sat back down without a hint of a blush, waiting for the exam to be handed out as if nothing had happened.

Just then, the classroom’s PA system crackled to life. Someone coughed twice, then said, "This is the Dean of Students. A few moments ago, several proctors violated exam regulations and have been removed from their posts. Please remember, proctors must be fair and incorruptible."

’So there’s more than one proctor here? Right, it’s a multiplayer dungeon.’

After a few seconds of silent mourning for the players who had been tricked by the NPCs, Duan Fei saw that the clock on the back wall of the classroom had reached 2:58. At the same time, the exam papers materialized on his desk.

Tearing open the seal, Duan Fei took out the exam papers and distributed them to everyone within two minutes.

Instead of returning to the desk, he silently picked up his Crowbar and slammed it down hard on a student’s desk.

"You there. Show me what’s in your left hand."

The student looked at Duan Fei expressionlessly, then opened their left hand to reveal half an eraser.

Carved into the eraser were the words: "You can do it, Wang Yun."

"My Mom carved this for me this morning," the student said, their voice choked with tears. "My Mom is sick, but she still carved this for me and told me to study hard and do well on the exam."

"Oh, my apologies."

Duan Fei apologized and walked away, only to spin back around, grab the student’s ear, and snap, "What the hell? Did you forget how to write your own name?!"

"...Tch!"

"The hell you ’tch’ing at? Wang Yun, that’s one strike!"

"...Tch, tch!"

After marking down a demerit for Wang Yun, Duan Fei made another round of the room. He breathed a sigh of relief only after confirming that everyone else at least knew how to write their own name.

He thought this was going to be a "rules-based horror" scenario, but right off the bat, he’d run into a "Hidden Dragon." It made Duan Fei feel that this dungeon was on an irrevocable path toward absurd comedy.

After confirming there were no other immediate issues, Duan Fei returned to the desk, pulled out a spare test paper, and decided to see what was actually on this exam.

"Question 1: What is your Mom’s father’s name?"

"Question 2: Xiao Ming has three apples, and Xiao Zhang has five apples. If Xiao Ming secretly takes two of Xiao Zhang’s apples, how many apples does Xiao Ming have?"

"Question 3: Write the 9 numbers that come after 1..."

"Question 4..."

At first, Duan Fei thought the exam was a joke.

But then he remembered there was someone in the room who couldn’t even write her own name, and he figured this was probably no laughing matter.

’What’s with these students? Are they all secretly geniuses with disabilities or something?’

The proctor’s rules only stated he had to patrol once every ten minutes, but it didn’t say he *could* only patrol once.

So, Duan Fei got up and walked another round, just in case there was something wrong with his own copy and he’d accidentally handed out a kindergarten quiz.

But when he returned, he started to question his own intelligence.

"Question 1: What is your Mom’s father’s name? Answer: Zhang Huaiming, Zhang Huaiming, Zhang Huaiming, Zhang Huaiming..."

"Answer to Question 2: Xiao Ming will be beaten to death, will be beaten to death, will be beaten to death..."

"Question 3: ..."

Everyone’s answers were identical. God knows what Zhang Huaiming would think if he knew he suddenly had twelve grandchildren.

And wasn’t Xiao Ming’s fate a bit too tragic? Beaten to death over two apples? Were the peels made of gold, or were the cores?

Sighing, Duan Fei asked, "Whose maternal grandfather is Zhang Huaiming?"

"Mine." Wang Yun stood up.

"Very good. You sit down. Everyone else gets one strike for cheating."

"On what grounds!"

"Unfair!"

"Teacher, you’re abusing your power!"

"Quiet!"

One slam of the Crowbar quieted everyone down. Duan Fei looked at them and said, "You know exactly what you did! Now get back to your exam, quietly. You have twenty minutes left!"

Cowed by Duan Fei’s tyrannical display, everyone fell silent. Then they began scratching their heads, chewing on their pencils and erasers, and racking their brains over how to answer the questions.

Finally, one of the examinees couldn’t take it anymore.

He snapped his pencil in two, stood up, and shouted, "I can’t take it anymore! Big Eyes, hypnotize him for me!"

When the student pointed at him, Duan Fei wondered what he was about to do.

The student kept pointing at Duan Fei, an arrogant smile on his face, as if Duan Fei were about to be finished in the next second.

But as time passed, more and more sweat beaded on his face, and his expression eventually twisted into utter despair.

"How is that possible?!" the boy shouted in despair. "Who the hell are you? Why isn’t the hypnosis working on you?!"

"Lay off the hentai, kid. The hypnosis genre isn’t really trending right now. Chang Hao, that’s one strike for cheating. Do it again and you’re out!"

"No!"
