Chapter 618: Chapter 618: Luo Ziling’s Theory

(Second Release)

“That was truly miraculous. It seems there’s wisdom in saying that masters are found amongst the common folk,” the middle-aged man was overjoyed and quickly stepped forward to shake hands with Luo Ziling, “I hope I can still seek your treatment in the days to come. Thank you very much.”

“Actually, I didn’t come here to show off my medical skills today,” Luo Ziling nodded at the middle-aged man, then addressed the whole audience, “I just wanted to make sure everyone saw with their own eyes that I’m not some clueless youngster when it comes to medicine; otherwise, I wouldn’t be able to talk about the following topics. Having demonstrated my medical skills, I wonder if I may return to the stage and continue with the rest of my presentation?”

“Of course, you can,” Li Mingxun made a welcoming gesture.

The audience burst into laughter once again.

Most people found Luo Ziling to be quite an interesting person, and his medical skills truly impressive.

Although most of the women at the conference were of a certain age, that didn’t prevent them from feeling a flutter in their hearts, their eyes turning peachy with infatuation.

Luo Ziling was already handsome, and his speech was witty and humorous. Coupled with his decent medical skills, what big sister or aunt wouldn’t like such an outstanding ‘fresh meat’?

Some were even contemplating whether to approach him proactively, to set him up with their daughters and make him their son-in-law. Of course, there were women, not too old, or those who were older but still full of estrogen and enthusiastic about matters of men and women, thinking that if they could spend a passionate night with this universally adored ‘fresh meat,’ their trip would not be in vain.

Life, ah, is often full of romance; who knows if romantic events might happen to oneself?

Of course, Luo Ziling was unaware that his appearance had caused many women to swoon. He returned to the stage, picked up the microphone, and continued on with his intended content.

“I know, most people who study Western medicine look down on traditional medicine, considering it to be dregs. To some extent, I do not disagree with this statement.”

These words from Luo Ziling once again shocked the audience. They did not expect that after showing off a few skills and having the participants look at him with new respect, he would actually make such a statement.

“The reason I say this is because too many people who claim to be involved in traditional medicine do not focus on studying medicine but prefer to play tricks, prescribing medicine irresponsibly just to make money, without caring about patients’ life or death. Nowadays, few people truly study traditional medicine. Most are content to rest on the laurels of their predecessors’ research, not bothering to question whether those findings are even correct.”

Seeing that everyone in the room was looking at him with surprise, especially Ouyang Feifei, whose eyes were shining brightly, Luo Ziling felt encouraged and continued, “Nowadays, many people still reference content from medical texts like the ‘Inner Canon of Huangdi’ and ‘Treatise on Cold Pathogenic Diseases,’ which are one to two thousand years old. It is important to understand that medicine is a rapidly developing field, and as time progresses and research advances, our understanding of pathophysiology is growing broader and deeper, with many concepts and principles also changing. This is true for both Chinese and Western medicine; both must evolve with the times. We must discard outdated and obsolete practices and, through continuous research, develop new and more scientific techniques. Unfortunately, the majority of those practicing traditional medicine still adhere to research findings or theories from hundreds or even thousands of years ago and are not considering innovating on the basis of their predecessors’ work to develop and progress traditional medicine further.”

“I am not saying that ancient medical texts no longer have any referential value. On the contrary, I think that the ancients were truly very intelligent. The writings from hundreds or thousands of years ago are still cited by later generations as a basis for diagnosis and treatment. This is the case in other fields as well. We Huaxia people have many things that have been passed down for thousands of years, which is rarely seen in other countries. Like ancient poetry, it represents the pinnacle of Huaxia’s cultural development, unmatched even today, and as a Huaxia person, I am deeply proud of this.”

At Luo Ziling’s words, the room erupted in applause, some women even screamed without regard for propriety.

“However, if the development of medicine were the same, that would not be a good phenomenon. Regrettably, the situation is indeed much like what I’ve just described. The major works of traditional medicine were mostly written hundreds of years ago, with few compiled in modern times, at least few that are considered classics. In fact, this is an important reason why traditional medicine is increasingly disregarded and losing its standing. With so few people doing research, no one pushing for progress, and no innovation, how can this field possibly develop? Practitioners rely on ancient medical texts, and researchers study these books without thinking to enrich their content, discarding the dross and supplementing the essence, how can it possibly develop in step with the times?”

“I know that the relevant departments have always been vigorously promoting traditional medicine, hoping to give it a stronger vitality to continue to better the people’s livelihood and ensure the health of the public. Why do we need to revitalize it? Because it has fallen behind, and that’s why it needs to be revitalized. I believe that if someday one of our researchers in traditional medicine compiles a great work that, like the ‘Huangdi Neijing,’ ‘Thousand Golden Remedies,’ or ‘Compendium of Materia Medica’ becomes a classic cited for hundreds or thousands of years, making previous masterpieces lose their reference value, and more renowned doctors like Bian Que, Zhang Zhongjing, Sun Simiao, and Li Shizhen appear, then our traditional medicine would be able to develop rapidly and bring more blessings to the people.”

As Luo Ziling spoke, a man in the back row stood up and said rudely, “Unfortunately, most people now regard traditional medicine as pseudoscience. The so-called Chinese medicine practitioners, when treating people, also stealthily mix Western medicine into the Chinese medicine because they themselves know that Chinese medicine can no longer treat diseases. Therefore, traditional medicine has no future.”

“Then I ask you, Lady Tu, who was just nominated for the highest achievement in world medicine, did she rely mainly on traditional medical research or on Western medicine that came from abroad?” Luo Ziling, a bit angry at being interrupted, responded sharply, “And what about the treatment I just gave to that teacher and the several ladies—what do you think that was?”

“Maybe you’re just putting on an act, playing a two-man con to disrupt this academic conference for your own publicity purposes,” the man, who looked to be in his forties, scoffed contemptuously and sat down.

What he didn’t expect was that his scornful words completely riled up the people who had just been treated by Luo Ziling.

Especially the three women who no longer felt neck pain after Luo Ziling’s simple manipulation immediately stood up to retort.

The man who felt much better after Luo Ziling’s acupuncture treatment also stood up unceremoniously to rebuke the disrupter.

“Although I have always looked down on traditional medicine and believed it to be in decline, after being treated by that young man today, I really do feel very comfortable. I don’t know if this is just a temporary illusion or an effective treatment result, but for you to say we’re putting on a two-man act, that is an insult to our integrity. I demand that you stand up and apologize.”

Luo Ziling remained standing on the stage, showing no signs of stage fright, but instead watched the ruckus below with a smile, without saying a word.
