Chapter 1434 - 1451: Did You Miss Me?
Chapter 1434: Chapter 1451: Did You Miss Me?
"I don’t understand!" Xia Xiaonuan stood up, glaring at Nangong Jinlie, and said desperately, "What makes you so sure that I’m that devil? What makes you think I would harm Nangong Yaoling?
You have been so self-assured all your life. If you truly believe in God, why are you driving me away? Aren’t you afraid that by doing so, you’re going against God’s will and could bring punishment upon yourself and those around you?!"
"How dare you!" Nangong Jinlie suddenly stretched out his hand and slammed it onto the table.
The teacups on the table started shaking.
Xia Xiaonuan fearlessly stared at Nangong Jinlie.
Because of Xia Xiaonuan’s words, Nangong Jinlie’s face turned alternately red and white, his eyes widened, as if in the next moment he would strangle Xia Xiaonuan.
The housekeeper was frightened by the scene and quickly stepped forward.
"Sir, please don’t get angry. The young lady is just full of youthful exuberance and speaks without thinking. Please don’t take it to heart!"
"Young lady, how could you say such a thing? The master is doing it for the good of the family! Apologize quickly!"
"You—! You—!" Nangong Jinlie pointed at Xia Xiaonuan, his fingertips trembling, his breathing becoming heavier.
"Get out! Just get out!" Nangong Jinlie, who had been trying hard to keep calm, finally lost his composure because of Xia Xiaonuan’s words.
He was trembling all over and shouted at Xia Xiaonuan.
Xia Xiaonuan was also frightened. She watched as Nangong Jinlie leaned backwards, and suddenly realized how serious her words had been.
She opened her mouth to say something, but in the end said nothing.
Instead, she watched the housekeeper administer medicine to the master, grabbed the handbag nearby, and rushed out the door.
She ran out of the ancestral home as if fleeing from a pursuer, as if a terrifying beast were on her tail.
She barely knew how she made it home.
Once home, she locked herself in her bedroom.
Being bombarded with so much information all at once made her feel overwhelmed.
She felt as if she’d just had a nightmare.
Housekeeper Li came up to knock on the door, and concernedly asked what was wrong; Xia Xiaonuan simply said she felt a bit unwell and needed to rest.
The housekeeper then left.
The sunlight from outside hit her face, making the entire room glaringly bright.
Xia Xiaonuan climbed off the bed and pulled all the curtains closed.
The room darkened. Her throat feeling dry and itchy, she went to the bedside, picked up a water cup, and drank the half cup of water left in it in one go.
She then sat down on the sofa.
Suddenly, she remembered something and quickly took out her phone, dialing Nangong Yaoling’s number.
The call was answered quickly.
"What’s up? Missing me already?" A familiar voice came from the other end amidst the clamorous sound of clinking glasses at a banquet table.
Listening to that pleasant voice, Xia Xiaonuan felt a slight soreness at the tip of her nose.
She tilted her head back, suppressing the grievance and sadness in her heart, forcing a smile and said, "Yeah, are you out?"
"Yes, the company is signing a contract with clients from the UK today. This client is very important to the company, so I’m accompanying them."
Xia Xiaonuan nodded.
"Then... drink a little less."
"Alright, I’ll do whatever my wife says." Nangong Yaoling chuckled. After he spoke, he seemed to sense something was off.
He couldn’t help but ask, "What’s up? Your voice sounds a bit strange."
Xia Xiaonuan quickly said, "Ah, maybe I caught a slight cold, but it’s nothing, I’ll be fine soon."
