Chapter 316: Resolves and Silver Threads

Vivian’s POV

I had never been forced into a real kill-or-be-killed moment. Not really. And yet here I was, still completely protected by Fate or pure luck or maybe just plain stubbornness. Still, even immortality had its terrifying horrors. Some things in this world were far worse than physical death. And I had a strong feeling that Joshua knew that better than anyone.

What was he playing at? What was his actual game? What were he and Fate really after in the end?

It had to be Zahliver. Hurting him. Completely breaking him. That had to be a huge part of their end goal.

So why wait? Why stall like this? What were they holding back for?

I had never even seen Zahliver bleed. Not once since I met him. He physically healed before pain could even settle into his body, and he fought like a storm before fear could spread to his opponents. He was strategic, lethal, and inhumanly precise in everything he did.

So what could possibly be the delay on their end?

What were we missing?

A low growl rumbled deep in my chest before I even realized I was snarling out loud, my rising irritation bubbling over.

There was not much I could do right this second, and the forced waiting made me restless and thoroughly frustrated. I absolutely hated feeling this helpless. But I was not completely powerless. I knew that in my soul. I had my own specific place to play in this twisted game, and I would make damn sure I played it well.

Tonight’s dinner party had to go off perfectly. I desperately needed to give Zahliver every tool, every possible edge, without putting him directly in the crosshairs or accidentally spilling anything our enemies could use against us.

I did not care if I had to act like the world’s most oblivious fiancée for a few hours. I would do it with absolute flair and win myself an imaginary Grammy award while I was at it.

Let them underestimate me.

Let them foolishly think I was nothing more than his pretty little mate sitting at the end of the table.

They had zero idea what I was capable of when tested.

Tonight was not just about testing Joshua and backing him into a corner. It was a crucial test for me too an unspoken challenge to see who could outthink, outmaneuver, and ultimately lead us all forward through the dark. The grand stage had been set, but it was certainly not only his performance being watched. Mine mattered just as much.

Most of the time, I leaned heavily on quick sarcasm and a sharp tongue. That fun part of me would not vanish not ever. But tonight demanded so much more from me. I had a clear choice sitting in front of me: I could slip easily into the simple role others expected the young, overwhelmed Luna who had been swept away and tied to the infamous, complicated Alpha, stumbling helplessly through problems she could not begin to fix. Or... I could fully step into my true name.

Vivian Azrala.

Future Luna of all Lunas.

The beating heart and soft soul permanently tethered to a powerful male whose reputation was steeped in unmatched brutality, but a woman fully capable of tempering that kindness into razor-sharp steel when pushed too far.

I was certainly not naïve. I knew there were massive responsibilities waiting for me on this island and beyond. Heavy things I was fully supposed to be handling beside him. Zahliver was so used to carrying ancient burdens that no single Alpha should ever have to bear alone. And maybe once upon a time, he really was completely alone in the world.

But not anymore.

Stretching out my long legs on the grass, I leaned back on my hands, the warm sun soothing my skin while the green blades tickled my fingers. My gaze lifted up toward the sky, soft white clouds drifting lazily above the mountain canopy.

"If you are up there listening, Moon Goddess," I murmured softly to the open air, "please help a girl out tonight."

The heavy weight resting in my chest had not really lifted since early this morning. Maybe it was the deep sadness of knowing that Aurora’s sudden inner peace had come at such a painful, tragic cost. But even amidst deep sorrow, there was true beauty in real change. There simply had to be. I truly hoped that Algebra strong, stoic Algebra and his mate would finally get the quiet peace they had waited far too long to claim.

A sudden, unexpected surge of energy had me jumping to my feet, driven not by vague hope, but by something far stronger. Pure resolve. Fierce determination.

I was completely done watching Fate play cruel puppeteer with the lives of those around me stealing away pure joy and leaving endless heartache in its place. I wanted to be the exact kind of Luna who did not just wear a fancy title, but actively changed people’s lives for the better. Not just here on this hidden island, but wherever wolves whispered her name across the lands. I wanted to be the bright light that scattered the dark shadows others had lived in for far too long.

Brushing the loose dirt off my pants, I grabbed my things and walked with deliberate purpose back down through the trees toward my car.

By the time I slid back into the leather driver’s seat, I downed half a bottle of cold water in one massive gulp. My throat was completely dry from the mountain hike and all the heavy emotions. Glancing back in the rearview mirror at the faint trail I had just come down from, I muttered under my breath, "Yeah... still definitely not a fan of hiking."

I chuckled softly to myself as I turned the ignition key, starting the car engine and easing smoothly onto the quiet road, letting the familiar hum fill the quiet interior.

I had barely been driving for thirty minutes when I felt it a sharp flicker deep in the back of my mind. It was not a painful break, but a clean, sudden shift. A distinct mental snap that did not come with physical pain, but with a massive wave of emotional release. Thoroughly confused, I pulled the car over to the side of the road and shut my eyes tight, actively trying to tune directly into whatever had just shifted inside my consciousness.

There it was.

An unlinking. Like a silver thread of pack bond had gently untied itself not from tragic disconnection, but from beautiful evolution. It was no longer tangled inside my mind; it had transformed into something entirely new. Distinct. Powerful. Familiar.

My lips slowly curved into a massive grin.

I was right.

That specific silver thread had always belonged to Hannah. And now, it had completely changed its nature.

She was officially in labor.

I slammed my foot down on the gas pedal, my heart pounding wildly against my ribs with pure joy.

Hannah’s water had just broken.
