I concentrated my mind, and a connection formed between me and the golem’s core. In the next instant, my perception changed.
I could feel the vibrations, the changes in pressure, and even the movement of the earth.
The vibrations were spread across the surface, but some of them were within the range of my golem’s perception.
Without wasting any time, I sent a mental command for the golem to move toward the nearest one.
The golem immediately changed its trajectory.
The closer we got, the clearer the information became, until I began to sense a different vibration.
A magical energy with a taste of blood, slightly different from the scent and feeling Ruby constantly had in her warm, milky body.
I ordered the golem to slow down, and then I was able to see.
My expression hardened. There was a group of acolytes gathered in a clearing. There were acolytes from the two enemy towers.
But they were not what caught my attention.
It was the group in the center. They were acolytes from the Arcangrove Tower. Several of them were kneeling on the ground. Their arms had been tightly bound behind their backs. Some also had their legs restrained.
Pieces of cloth had been placed over their mouths to prevent them from screaming.
One of the prisoners raised his head, and one of the enemy members walked over to him and, without saying anything, spat in his face.
The prisoner closed his eyes.
Another acolyte walked past and deliberately stepped near his head, pressing the young man’s face against the ground.
—Stay quiet and stop trying to escape, or do you want us to break your bones?
—You should be grateful.
—You’re going to die serving a greater purpose.
The prisoner tried to respond through the cloth in his mouth.
—Mmmph!
—What?
The acolyte crouched down.
—I can’t understand you.
He smiled.
—Maybe it’s better if you remain silent.
Another enemy laughed.
—Leave him alone. Soon he won’t have any more opportunities to complain.
Sacrifices.
That was the first word that came to my mind, because in the center of the clearing, there was a magical formation drawn on the ground. Black runes surrounded a circle filled with red symbols. In the center were several crystals and containers filled with blood.
The magical energy emanating from that formation caused my danger instinct to react.
—Are all the preparations complete?
The others immediately made way.
A man walked toward the center.
The waves of energy emanating from his body were much stronger than those of the others. He was a Level 3 Acolyte.
The man looked at the prisoners.
—How many?
An acolyte beside him answered:
—Eight acolytes from the enemy tower. Five Level 1s and three Level 2s.
The man nodded.
—Excellent.
He slowly walked toward the formation.
—This should be enough.
One of the acolytes asked:
—Do you really intend to summon a blood elemental here?
The leader looked at him.
—Are you doubting me?
—No, sir.
—Then don’t ask unnecessary questions.
The man pointed toward the formation.
—This region has an adequate concentration of elemental particles. If we use these acolytes as sacrifices, their blood and energy will be enough to complete the ritual.
A smile appeared on his face.
—After that, we’ll have a blood elemental under our control.
Some of the acolytes became excited.
—What level will it be?
The leader remained silent for a few seconds.
—It will depend on the quality of the sacrifices.
He looked at the prisoners.
—But it certainly won’t be a weak creature.
Depending on the quantity and quality of the energy used in the summoning, the result could vary enormously.
A ritual fueled by ordinary people could produce a relatively weak creature.
But those idiots were using acolytes, whose magical energy would be used as fuel. A smile appeared on my face as I realized that the ideal moment to attack would be when this Level 3 Acolyte was focused on chanting the incantation.
So, after waiting for a while, the leader began to murmur the incantation. I knew I couldn’t wait any longer.
The runes of the magical formation began to glow.
The blood energy accumulated in the center of the circle became increasingly intense, forming an invisible pressure that caused even the earth around me to vibrate.
At the same time, I took out several spiritual cores that I was carrying with me.
They were Black Rock Basilisk cores. I carefully spread them around the area where the ritual was taking place.
I did not place them too close to one another. After all, I wanted the basilisk to emerge from different directions.
After positioning the cores, I retreated a few meters.
The cores began absorbing the elemental energy present in the environment.
Little by little, the earth around them began to change, and fragments of black rock rose from the ground.
My attention returned to the clearing.
The leader continued chanting the incantation, and the prisoners were sacrificed one after another. The blood began feeding the runes. The spiritual energy of those acolytes was also absorbed by the formation.
I mentally marked the targets. The Level 3 Acolyte was the first. Then there were several Level 2 Acolytes. The rest were relatively weak.
I established a spiritual connection with the cores and sent a single command.
“Attack.”
The enemies remained focused on the ritual.
However, suddenly.
BOOOOM!
The earth exploded.
A huge black head emerged from the surface.
The nearby acolytes froze.
—What?!
Before anyone could react, another explosion of earth occurred several meters away.
BOOOOM!
A second head emerged, followed by several more.
The basilisk that emerged from underground were enormous.
SSSSSSSS…
The acolytes were completely stunned.
—What the hell is that?!
—Golems?!
—Where did they come from?!
One of them tried to retreat.
Another immediately raised his staff.
But no one was more frightened than the leader.
—Shit!
He realized it faster than the other acolytes. Even though he couldn’t see me, he understood that this was not a natural phenomenon.
—Interrupt the ritual!
He tried to sever his connection with the formation. The problem was that he had established a deep connection with the incantation. Interrupting it at that moment could cause a violent deviation of magical energy.
He hesitated for a fraction of a second.
That was enough.
One of the basilisk charged forward.
BOOM!
Its enormous body tore through the earth like a living wall.
The leader tried to raise his hand.
—Wait…
The creature opened its mouth, and its black fangs gleamed.
CRAAASH!
The impact completely interrupted the incantation, causing an explosion that burned everyone nearby with magical radiation.
Boom~~
The Arcangrove Tower acolytes were vaporized because they were inside the summoning magic circle. The others were thrown away and crashed to the ground, unable to complete their spells.
The leader, whose waist had been crushed by the basilisk, never got back up. Since he had fallen onto the magic circle, his head was vaporized as well.
A Level 3 Acolyte.
Very few remained, so I sent another mental command.
—Attack!
—Form a barrier!
—Don’t let those things get close!
The enemy acolytes finally reacted.
Spells were cast.
Energy blades tore through the air.
Elemental projectiles struck the basilisk’s bodies.
The clearing was engulfed in explosions, but the basilisk continued advancing. The defense of their Black Rock bodies was incredibly tough. The acolytes’ attacks were only able to leave superficial marks.
The result was predictable.
One basilisk lowered its head and charged forward, mercilessly crushing the enemy acolytes.
Another tried to use a restraining spell.
Magical chains partially wrapped around the basilisk’s body.
The creature simply continued advancing.
The chains broke one after another.
—Impossible!
Before long, the entire clearing fell silent, and everyone was dead. Without wasting any time, I emerged from the earth and began collecting the tokens from the enemy acolytes. I was happy because I had managed to obtain a lot of points without much difficulty.
However, suddenly, the hairs on my arms stood on end, and the Biochip appeared with several notifications.
[Beep!]
[Danger!!]
[Roll to the right immediately!]
Before I could read it, I obeyed and skillfully rolled to the side. Just a few steps away, space tore apart, and I heard a female voice coming from the air.
—Finally, I’ve found you!
—It took me a while, but I did it. It seems that, somehow, you can navigate through the earth, and that was interfering with my tracking spell.
