Chapter 210: An angry mosquito

  • Next Chapter

When the terrifying Mosquito arrived on the battlefield with her chest puffed out in rage, I was still hiding inside the enormous Black Rock Basilisk that had just violently emerged from the ground.

Outside, the five outlaw Acolytes had begun an utterly insane magical bombardment against the creature.

I could feel some of that power even while being protected inside the Basilisk’s body.

But they were also destroying everything around them.

The demonized forest, which had once stretched in every direction, had been transformed into a true scene of devastation. Approximately one-third of it had already been completely destroyed by the magical spells unleashed by the five Pseudo-Mages.

And, hovering high in the sky, the Mosquito saw all that destruction.

After receiving Ruby’s message, my priority had been to survive.

I preferred running and dodging the enemy’s attacks rather than simply counterattacking recklessly.

Even the Giant of Light that I had summoned, which frequently shone in the sky, had held back its large-area magical spells.

Instead, the Giant of Light continued using only beams of light aimed at individual targets, trying to deal with the attacks coming toward me.

Therefore, when the Mosquito finally arrived, the first thing she encountered was five outlaw Pseudo-Mages launching blatantly powerful attacks and turning the entire forest into hell.

Then she screamed and disappeared.

Her speed was terrifying, and she chose Netalp, who was at the rear of the group, as her first target.

In the previous battle, the other men had been responsible for directly attacking me, while Netalp’s role had been to force me out of the underground.

Because of this, he was positioned slightly farther away from the others.

And it was precisely that position that doomed him.

The Mosquito reached him in an instant.

It was terrifying to watch a demon at the level of a Mage attack with all her power.

The string of the magical bow in her hand was pulled to its limit.

A terrifying amount of Shadow-element energy began gathering around her fingers.

The black energy rapidly condensed, forming a small, brilliant black arrow.

Even from where I was, I felt a shiver.

Netalp turned his head.

His eyes widened.

The string was released.

The arrow disappeared.

In the next instant, it tore through space like a bolt of lightning and struck his back, piercing all the way through to his chest.

An armor made of ruby-red crystal quickly appeared, but it was useless.

The moment the arrow touched the armor, the crystal simply exploded.

Netalp had managed to perceive the attack at the last instant and move his body slightly to the side.

If he hadn’t done that, the arrow would have pierced directly through his heart.

Even so, it pierced his right shoulder.

And then it exploded.

Half of Netalp’s body was violently destroyed.

The black energy that spread through the wound began corroding his flesh. His bones were shattered, and several of his internal organs were exposed.

Everything happened in a single movement.

Netalp, who had been caught completely off guard, was severely injured and practically on the verge of death.

Only then did the four remaining men realize what had happened.

They turned around at the same time.

Rage and shock appeared on their faces.

But it was already too late.

The Mosquito had begun another rain of arrows.

The black arrows tore across the sky like a storm.

She advanced with absurd speed, forcing the four Pseudo-Mages to abandon any idea of a coordinated attack and assume a defensive stance.

Netalp was already practically half-dead.

And now he had to survive the second wave of attacks.

He did not dare hesitate.

He immediately detonated the magic wand in his hand.

A huge cloud of red dust rose from the ground, enveloping his body.

The Mosquito’s arrows pierced through the cloud, rapidly scattering the dust.

But when the cloud disappeared...

Netalp had disappeared as well.

He had escaped.

The four remaining Pseudo-Mages also realized that they could no longer hesitate.

Their expressions changed.

They began releasing their most powerful abilities.

— Shadow Explosion!

— Blue Will-o’-the-Wisp!

— Shadow Invasion!

— Blue Explosion!

Four completely different spells were fired at the Mosquito.

I recognized the logic behind that choice.

They knew large-scale spells, but facing someone with the Mosquito’s speed made such attacks far less effective.

Against an enemy capable of moving like the wind, spells concentrated on a single target were much more dangerous.

And those four were the most powerful single-target attacks they could unleash.

Although they were Pseudo-Mages and were one level below the Mosquito, I knew it would be a mistake to underestimate them.

After all, a wild demon like her possessed a physical constitution equivalent to the level of a Mage.

But that did not mean they possessed the true capabilities of a human Mage.

Humans had much more fragile bodies.

However, they possessed hundreds of thousands of years of accumulated knowledge, countless spells, and magical legacies passed down through generations.

It was precisely this knowledge that allowed a human Mage to unleash power many times greater than what their body apparently should have been able to withstand.

That was why those Pseudo-Mages were still dangerous.

The four spells struck the area where the Mosquito was.

Black rings of light continuously exploded against her flower armor.

The black sprouts extending from the armor were destroyed one after another.

Even so, the armor continued to protect her body.

Until one of the spells finally broke through her defense.

The elemental energy exploded directly against her body.

For the first time since the beginning of that battle, I saw blood trickle from the Mosquito’s mouth.

She had actually been injured.

But that only seemed to increase her fury.

Her wings beat violently.

Her body transformed into a blur as she left the area where the attacks were concentrated.

At the same time, the rain of arrows she fired became even more intense.

She was trying to destroy the defenses of the four Pseudo-Mages one by one.

Then Salin roared.

He had already completed his lineage transformation.

His black face was filled with rage.

A shadow spear appeared above his head, followed by several more spears that materialized in the air around him.

ZOSHHH~~

ZOSHHH~~

The spears flew like lightning.

The Shadow Serpent lineage had granted him a terrifying ability to cast Shadow-element spells practically without limits.

Furthermore, every Shadow spell he cast seemed to reach its maximum potential.

The spears did not strike the Mosquito directly.

But they didn’t need to.

The dark energy released by the explosions began to envelop her body.

Shadow crystals accumulated over her armor.

Little by little, her flying speed and ability to dodge began to decrease.

The other three Pseudo-Mages immediately noticed the opportunity.

They increased the frequency of their attacks, causing more spells to cover the sky and explosions to tear through the air.

The Mosquito continued moving at high speed, dodging everything she could.

I could perfectly understand those men’s motivation.

The reward for killing an Acolyte from the surface wasn’t that great.

But killing a wild demon at the level of a Mage?

That was completely different.

Just by dividing the magical materials they could obtain from the Mosquito’s body among the four of them, they would probably make a fortune.

That was why none of them intended to retreat.

And while both sides were locked in that fierce battle, I did not waste any time.

And my target was obvious.

The same outlaw Pseudo-Mages who had put me in such a miserable situation earlier.

The large-scale hurricane created by my Giant of Light appeared once again.

This time, it enveloped the four Pseudo-Mages within its attack range.

The concentration of Light Element in the surroundings increased violently.

It simply expelled the other Elements.

This made it difficult for the four men to cast their spells.

The only exception was Sharniz, who specialized in Fire-element spells.

But that would be extremely dangerous.

The Mosquito was far too fast.

If she decided to ignore her injuries and concentrated all her power on one of them, none of the four could guarantee that they would survive on their own.

Salin was the only one who possessed any close-combat ability thanks to his transformation into a Shadow Serpent.

The others were essentially elemental Pseudo-Mages.

If they allowed a swift enemy to approach them, their combat strength would plummet.

Salin took a deep breath and roared.

— Sharniz!

— You will fight that boy’s Golem!

— The three of us will hold off this filthy mosquito!
