After two rounds of exchanges of magical spells, the difference between the strength of the two sides was already impossible to ignore.
Although many of the attacks were still being intercepted halfway, the number of spells reaching the outlaw acolytes’ camp was clearly greater.
Our advantage was becoming overwhelming.
Most of the defensive barriers protecting the bodies of the outlaw acolytes had already been broken.
Some were injured.
Others staggered as they tried to raise new energy shields.
There were even some who began looking around in panic.
They were losing confidence.
On our side, however, the situation was completely different.
Rustil’s formation remained intact.
Our barriers still shone intensely, forming a rigid and practically impenetrable defense.
Sitting on the back of my Giant King Shark Golem, I had a privileged view of the entire battlefield.
—Hunter, keep attacking those rats.
My Hunter Knight, fused with the golem’s body, responded immediately.
SHIIIIING!
A huge amount of elemental energy began to gather.
Then...
BOOOOM!
An Earth Spear shot toward one of the Petrifying Rat-Men advancing slowly in our direction.
SHRAAAK!
The spear pierced through the ground and struck the target.
The Rat-Man staggered, but continued advancing.
—One more.
BOOM!
Another spear emerged.
—And another!
CRAAASH!
The earth spears continued being fired one after another.
While the Hunter dealt with that threat, I heard Rustil’s voice.
—George!
I looked at him.
Rustil pointed toward a specific acolyte.
—That one!
I didn’t need any further explanation.
Luminous energy began gathering in my hand.
SHIIIIING!
The light bow appeared.
I held the string, and a luminous arrow formed between my fingers.
The Biochip immediately began analyzing the target.
Everything was calculated in a fraction of a second.
I released the string.
FIIIIU!
The arrow cut through the air like a bolt of lightning.
BOOM!
It struck an enemy acolyte.
—AAAAARGH!
The man cried out miserably and fell to his knees.
But at that moment, I noticed something moving at the edge of my field of vision.
At the edge of the battlefield, inside a region engulfed in darkness, a muffled sound emerged.
GHRRRK!
Shortly afterward, a figure staggered out of the shadows.
It was one of the Chameleon Demi-Human assassins.
He was covered in blood.
One hand desperately clutched his own throat.
The flesh had been torn open.
Blood ran between his fingers.
He tried to take a few more steps.
Then he fell.
Even after falling, the blood continued to flow.
He tried to press down on the wound, but it was useless.
Several other sounds came from the darkness beside him.
Another Chameleon emerged.
But his situation was even worse.
Both of his eyes were completely blind.
His body was covered in deep scratch marks.
And then I realized that Ruby was clinging to his neck.
Her teeth were buried in his throat.
GLUP...
GLUP...
GLUP...
She was sucking his blood.
The Chameleon roared furiously.
—GRAAAAAH!
Even with almost no strength left, he desperately swung his dagger.
Ruby simply forced him to remain still until his movements began to lose strength.
His body went limp.
The blood had practically disappeared from his veins.
Ruby finally released his neck.
The assassin fell to his knees.
And collapsed onto the ground.
The third Chameleon had witnessed everything.
I could clearly see terror taking over him.
Two of his companions had been killed.
And he knew he would be next.
Suddenly, his camouflage disappeared.
—Wait, please! I took this job to provide for my wife and daughter.
He turned around and began running.
He ran as fast as he could.
But before he had gone ten meters...
SHIIIIING!
A dazzling red light appeared.
I could barely follow the movement.
The Chameleon’s head flew into the air.
SPLASH!
His body, however, continued running.
The thin and grotesque body twisted a few times, then fell and became motionless.
Ruby remained standing in the darkness.
Then her eyes met mine.
She smiled.
She raised one hand.
Placed a finger over her lips.
Then blew me a kiss.
—Muah.
I couldn’t help it.
I smiled and returned the kiss.
—Muah.
The Blood Fairies truly lived up to their reputation as nobles of the dark night.
Even killing someone seemed like a form of art when Ruby did it.
I shook my head.
It wasn’t the time to admire my sweet, wild deposit of sperm...
I turned my attention back to the battle.
I pulled the string of the light bow again.
SHIIIIING!
A new arrow appeared.
This time, my target was an acolyte surrounded by several energy triangles floating around his body.
I released it.
FIIIIU!
The arrow struck the barrier.
BOOOOOOM!
Two energy triangles exploded.
CRACK!
CRACK!
The acolyte staggered.
Then he raised his face and stared at me.
Anger appeared in his eyes.
He raised his yellow staff, whose tip possessed an intense white light.
He began to chant.
Then several spells were launched at me.
The problem was that I couldn’t see them.
Normally, this would have been extremely dangerous.
But I had the Biochip.
—Biochip, track trajectory.
[Magical trajectories detected.]
Invisible lines were immediately identified.
My eyes followed the paths of the spells.
The Giant King Shark moved.
Its enormous mud body positioned itself in front of me.
BOOOOM!
The first spell struck its body.
SPLASH!
The mass of mud was scattered.
But the golem remained standing.
While the Hunter blocked the attacks, I concentrated my mind again.
My target was that acolyte.
He looked like a black priest.
And his spells were extremely strange.
Skulls made of energy appeared around him.
Skeletons emerged from the ground.
Bone arrows flew through the air.
Then something even more dangerous happened.
The air seemed to become strange.
My mind began to feel heavy.
My Biochip immediately issued an alert.
[Mental interference detected.]
I gritted my teeth.
If I didn’t have the Biochip, I probably wouldn’t even have noticed the attack.
I continued firing my light arrows.
FIIIIU!
BOOM!
Another barrier destroyed.
My offensive capability, however, was limited.
Besides the light arrows and the Hunter’s Earth Spears, I didn’t have many suitable options for that type of battle.
Other spells could end up hitting my own allies.
And wasting mana on inefficient attacks would also be foolish.
It was then that an idea came to my mind.
Perhaps I needed to create another golem.
A specialized one.
A golem capable of launching long-range magical attacks at high speed.
Something that could fire continuously without requiring my constant concentration.
Even if I alone didn’t have enough strength to completely break through that black priest’s defense, I didn’t need to do it.
I had my companions.
And they were doing exactly what they needed to do.
After we established an advantageous position, our magical bombardment became suffocating.
The outlaw acolytes began to retreat.
And I had already understood the pattern of that battle.
First, both sides formed their lines.
Then the long-range magical attacks began.
Exactly as ordinary human soldiers would do with bows and arrows.
Except our arrows were made of fire, wind, earth, light, and countless other forms of energy.
Both sides continued exchanging attacks until one of them could no longer resist.
When the formation finally broke...
The pursuit began.
And then small battles emerged everywhere.
Two acolytes against three.
Three against two.
One against one.
Everything happened throughout the surrounding area.
And that was exactly what happened.
The formation of the outlaw acolytes finally collapsed.
They completely lost confidence.
—Run!
—Retreat!
—To the tunnels!
The wounded acolytes began to flee.
None of them tried to protect their companions.
Each one simply ran to save his own life.
I couldn’t help but think there was something curious about that.
The distance to Darkgem was enormous.
Perhaps those men simply considered their own companions much more dangerous than us.
Rustil soon shouted.
—Split up! Smaller teams! Don’t let any of them escape!
The members of our team began to separate.
Everyone started pursuing the enemies through the tunnels.
I, however, didn’t go with anyone.
My Giant King Shark advanced alone.
I was determined to pursue the same enemy I had just fought.
